the red was deserved...raphael knew what he was doing....he got back up and purposely ran back and across the player.

it he had run straight back with the same speed he would have caught up with him.

edit* seeing the replay he was real guilty...he put up his hands just before he make contact.

Mike Dean is a c**t, Vidic is a God and United will win the league

No prem team other than United could have held off Spurs with a front 6 of Bale Modric VDV Lennon Crouch Defoe for 18 minutes with a makeshift RB and at the Lane in the form they are in... NONE

They created about 1 half chance in that time and we still looked dangerous on the break with 10 men...

We were poor today overall..couldnt get going...Spurs were excellent for a while

Top of the league.. 2 games in hand on City... keep the ball rolling

haters can f**k off

Well fought game- Both teams figured eachother out pretty early and neutralized eachother well....

A little dosage of individual skill and creativity was needed to unlock the door on either side.

Bale had some really nice touches, Modric was lively and Giggs' movement and running was superb, but the visionary pass or run was missing to open the game up.  The longer it stayed 0-0, the more predictable it got.  The ref tried to help open the game with a soft 2nd yellow...poor call it was, but by that time Man U had a defensive formation that was working and they just needed to switch around the personnel- they were never stretched.

Man U's football is uninspiring for the neutral spectator this season (by their standards), but they are so well coached and disciplined, and have just the right amount of quality to keep getting results without every really giving a display of breathtaking football like they've done on occasion in past seasons... It's a bit disappointing because I usually enjoy watching them play.

Giggs is class- what a player.

Good result better than losing. Giggsy, Rafael, Vida and Ferdinand boss game. Rooney pullin stones when he plays and I think he is hurting the team when he has played this season. Rooney needs to come off the bench and give Chicharito a chance.
Spurs aint ready. Arry should have started Defoe; starting Crouch only played to Vidic's strengths. Plus Crouch= shithound! Lennon against Evra was more of a concern than Bale against Rafael.
Rafael even though he got sent off had a good game; aggressive, skillful and determined play. Needs to pick his spots once he gets carded and not give the ref any opportunity to send him off. Nani never got into the game, Carrick and Fletcher made very basic mistakes that killed plays. Bale wants nothing with Rafael- Brazil's starting right back in 2014 WC! Giggsy=Legend!

Agreed 100%.. even last season we werent that impressive... we miss the drive of Ronaldo and Tevez and losing Hargreaves didnt help... luckily we have enough experience in our team to get the job done but we really need at least 2 world class players to bring back the Man United way of Football.. also since Quieroz left we've looked flat and boring

Maybe a technical staff change and a couple world class talents are needed to help us compete on all fronts while doing it playing well

Modric and Bale are a must for me.. but it will be very difficult to get them

I think he should play Fabio- the young man needs games. He is actually is right footed but converted to left back so that Rafael could play rightback.

I'll put Rafael in there, and they wouldn't know... Fergie will pretend it's his twin, Fabio

By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 1:19 PM on 21st January 2011

Sir Alex Ferguson has joked he considered playing the suspended Rafael Da Silva this weekend - by pretending it's his twin brother Fabio.

The United defender is banned for one match after he was sent off in his side's 0-0 Barclays Premier League draw with Tottenham last weekend – a decision which infuriated Ferguson.

But when asked how he would fill the void for United's home clash with Birmingham on Saturday, the Scot was in jovial mood.

'I might put Rafael in there,' Ferguson said. 'They wouldn't know [the difference]. Their DNA is probably the same.'

Rafael is waiting to hear if his one-match ban has been increased after he reacted furiously to his dismissal by referee Mike Dean last Sunday.

'You hope for common sense,' the United manager said regarding Rafael's Friday hearing. 'You hope that prevails.

'It was a bad decision to send him off. In a big game it can have an impact, especially with 20 minutes left.'

Fabio, Wes Brown and John O'Shea are all in contention to fill the vacancy left by Rafael, with Ferguson also expected to make a couple of extra changes as his side look to retain top spot.

'Having to replace Rafael has given us something to consider, plus one or two other changes,' Ferguson said.

'Fabio could replace him. O'Shea and Brown also played for the reserves, so they are a consideration.'

Manchester United's Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand buy into cutting-edge methods at Carrington
Manchester United’s attempt to reclaim the Premier League title is being bolstered by cutting-edge technology which includes GPS tracking of the players, zero-gravity rehabilitation and vitamin D beds.

By Mark Ogden 11:00PM GMT 21 Jan 2011

In a revelatory access-all-areas documentary by MUTV, the club’s in-house television channel, Ryan & Rio — Carrington Revealed, sheds light on the behind-the-scenes operation at Manchester United’s 108-acre Carrington training centre.

United are due to invest £11 million in a new sports science and medical facility at Carrington, which was opened in January 2000, later this year.

And with Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad given individual programmes and daily computerised data on their training performances, midfielder Ryan Giggs — who has confirmed his intention to sign a new one-year contract — admits that the attention to detail ensures that the players’ every move is now monitored and analysed.

“With all the stats that you get, you can’t hide,” Giggs said. “You can’t duck out of training or not work hard because it’s all monitored.

“We all have private programmes, so you get your clipboard and then monitor what you do every day. If you’re not working hard on a regular basis, you will get extra running or extra weights to make up for it.
United became the first Premier League club to adopt the GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking device last season.

Worn in training vests, the GPS tracker enables United’s sports science researcher, Robin Thorpe, to give an individual rundown of each player’s performance stats following training at Carrington.

Giggs said: “We wear heart-rate monitors to test how hard we are working and also the GPS devices. The GPS goes in the back, with the heart-rate monitor underneath.

“They show us how far we have run in training, what the intensity was like, how quick we have been. You can go into the sports science department after training and you can find out your data more or less straightaway.

“In the morning, the sports scientists will tell us what we are doing. After a game, they will put up the running that we have done compared to the other team — the distance we have covered, intensity etc. It’s interesting.”

Inside the first-team dressing room, Ferguson’s squad utilise ice baths and the vitamin D bed — similar to a walk-in sunbed — almost daily.

Garry Armer, a United masseur, said: “The tubes have been altered slightly, so it is purely for vitamin D. The players, particularly the dark-skinned players, have a programme whereby they build up their vitamin D. The black players don’t tend to absorb vitamin D as much, so they go on this. They go in for four or five minutes after training, about three times a week.”

United’s scientific approach is not unique in the Premier League. Bolton Wanderers, under Sam Allardyce, regularly used deep-freeze refrigeration technology on their players, with eye coaches and Tai Chi also adopted at the Reebok.

Ferguson has often credited his former assistant, Carlos Queiroz, with introducing futuristic methods at United, however, and Giggs admits that the treatment of injured players, in particular, has moved on incredibly since his debut in 1991.

“When I started, you would get treatment, have a bit of ice and go home,” He said. “But now, you are working a couple of days after being injured.

“The gravity-free treadmill is great, especially if you have an ankle injury or something similar because you don’t apply downward pressure.

“You just jump on to it, fasten the zips around you and then get in. It’s like being on the Moon apparently — it’s running, but it makes you float.

“There is an underwater treadmill, where you can get your running action back quickly because, in the water, you can run as hard as you want. There are cameras underneath the pool which monitor your foot pattern, to make sure that you’re not limping. There’s no escape!”

Training preparation begins with a 15-minute bike session, followed by a stint on the ‘Get Back’ mat — a giant Twister mat — aimed at boosting movement and co-ordination.

“You stand in front of the TV and different circles light up,” Giggs said. “When they light up, you have to get on to them as quickly as you can.”

Giggs’s adoption of yoga as part of his fitness routine has been followed by team-mates Darren Fletcher and Rio Ferdinand, but the 37 year-old admits that relaxation is also a key aspect of the work done by United’s players at Carrington.

“The day after a game, it is all about relaxing,” He said. “We’ll go on the bikes for 15 minutes, have a stretch and then have a float in the deep-water pool, with maybe some weights.”

Computerised analysis of opponents, via the ProZone system, takes place in a room off limits to Ferguson’s squad, but Ferdinand insists that is the department which gives United the edge on the pitch.

“They’ve got square eyes in there,” Ferdinand said. “But it’s where all the magic happens.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy apologises to United's manager Sir Alex FergusonHamburg striker happy to end five-year rift with the Manchester United manager[

Daniel Taylor guardian.co.uk, Friday 21 January 2011 16.59

Ruud van Nistelrooy has sought to end his rift with Sir Alex Ferguson by making a personal apology to the Manchester United manager almost five years since their working relationship began to disintegrate and the bitterness eventually led to his departure.

Van Nistelrooy told Ferguson he regretted the way he had behaved – the Dutchman once had a fight with Cristiano Ronaldo on the club's training pitch and drove home after he was left out of the starting line-up against Charlton Athletic on the final day of the 2005-06 season – and admitted he had contributed to the reasons why Ferguson had decided he had to get rid of a striker who had scored 150 goals in his five seasons at Old Trafford.

Ferguson, in turn, told the Dutchman the matter was now finished and that he is happy to end a rift that ignited after he was omitted from the Carling Cup final line-up in February 2006, and had been smouldering ever since. "I was really pleased with that," Van Nistelrooy said. "I told him: 'Those five years at Manchester United were fantastic, and working with you, and it's really unfortunate what happened.' I'm really glad it's finished now."

Relations between the two men became so fractured at one point that when Van Nistelrooy moved to Real Madrid for £10.3m in 2006 he cited the tensions as the only reason he had left Old Trafford. Nonetheless, they were also key to each other's success during Van Nistelrooy's time in Manchester and, in an interview with the magazine Voetball International, the Dutchman explained why he had waited until now before contacting his former manager.

"I had been thinking about it for a while and talking it through with my wife," he said. "Two or three times every year I would think to myself what a shame it was that it had ended like it did with Ferguson. I wanted to do something about it.

"My wife suggested I sent Ferguson a text to see if he was willing to talk and when I sent him a message asking if I could ring him he replied to say: 'OK, call me at this date and time.' I rang him and he answered and said: 'OK, fine, go ahead.' I said I wanted to apologise for what had happened and he replied: 'Fine, I appreciate that, when we meet again it will be OK.' That was great to know."

Van Nistelrooy had established himself as the eighth-highest scorer in United's history when he left the club for Madrid. After three and a half years in Spain he signed for Hamburg last January but is now in talks about returning to the Bernabéu.

Now 34, the striker is acutely aware he is coming to the end of his career and made it clear he retains an affinity for the club where he established himself as the most prolific striker in the Premier League. "If I encounter Ferguson again – and I really hope that will happen – I will embrace him and then it will all be finished."

Ferguson may have settled one grudge but the manager retains another, against the referee Mike Dean for his sending off of Rafael da Silva in the goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday. Rafael was fined £8,000 todayafter admitting a Football Association charge of improper conduct relating to his reaction to the red card, but Ferguson believes the Brazilian was entitled to be aggrieved.

"I think everyone who watched the game agreed [the red card was unjust]. I think [the former referee] Dermot Gallagher said it was the worst decision of the week. Everyone knows it was a bad decision, but it happens. Unfortunately, in a game of that magnitude, it could have had a big impact. It didn't help us in terms of trying to go and win the game".

For all the Ghana lovers

Suarez sightings in Manchester around the training base etc...

I would welcome this...I think its just rumours but he can play a wing or behind the main striker.. will add to the creativity and attackign power... I doubt Fergie will buy him as a striker... Winger for sure in a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3

I doubt it's true but I'd take him in a heartbeat

I think we should bring in someone before the close of the Window...  CM seems to be ok till then end.. Scholes, Ando, Fletch, Carrick and Gibbo with Giggsy being an option as well

Wings looking a bit suspect with Valencia out, Giggsy's age and just Park and Nani to depend on...

If we dont bring in someone so be it but 1 player can help us push on and compete on the 3 quests for glory
