BOMB IN PORT OF SPAIN AGAIN
« on: August 10, 2005, 10:47:29 AM »
reports are that a bomb went off in a bin in POS on george street.as far as the reports go no one is injured...

The latest explosion in downtown Port of Spain did not lead to injury or property damage. However it has once again caused panic, with the police saying no stone would be left unturned in the investigation into the incident.

The blast occurred on George Street at 11:45 this morning.

The blast rocked the immediate area and could have been heard some distance away.

Police and members of the Defence Force were quickly on the scene, blocking off the area to pedestrian and mobile traffic.

Police Commissioner Trevor Paul says the service will unleash the full brunt of the law on those responsible for the second explosion in just over a month.

Business operators in the area were forced to evacuate their buildings.

Deputy Mayor of Port of Spain Rishi Lakhan was on the scene of the explosion and he used the opportunity to lament the lack of manpower to effectively monitor situations.

However in the meantime Mayor Lakhan said people must not carry out their business in fear in the capital.

And the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce condemns in the strongest possible terms this morning’s blast.

The chamber says it is noteworthy that this second bombing has occurred almost one month to the day after the first explosion.

It says this second explosion seems to suggest that the blasts are well planned, organised assaults taking place in the hart of the city.

The chamber is also slamming the authorities for not being forthcoming regarding the status of the first attack.

It says government should now consider soliciting foreign expertise to investigate the incidents

Another explosion in Port of Spain.

There are reports of an explosion on George Street in Port of Spain.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but we have been told that a garbage bin exploded between Independence Square north and Queen Street.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 this morning.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Police, members of the Defence Force and fire officials are on the scene.

We’ll have more for as information comes to hand.

One month ago a home made bomb went off in similar fashion on Federick Street injuring about 14 people.
