19 Caribbean teams to contest CFU Youth Cup in T&T.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).
[/size]

Trinidad and Tobago will host the third edition of the Caribbean Football Union’s Caribbean Under 15 Youth Cup from August 18-30, 2007.
This was among the confirmations coming out of Friday’s local organizing committee meeting at the CONCACAF/CFU Offices in Port of Spain.
CFU acting general secretary and events coordinator Angenie Kanhai revealed that the fixtures for the tournament were confirmed with hosts T&T opening the tournament against Aruba on August 18.
This year’s tournament will not serve as qualifiers for the CONCACAF Final qualifying round  and subsequent World Championship unlike the 2006 edition which was an Under 16 level competition with the top Caribbean teams moving on to the final qualifying round towards the FIFA Under 17 World Championship. And only Central Americans El Salvador will be the guest nation participating this year.
Nineteen Caribbean nations will take part in the first round with seven advancing to the quarter final stage with El Salvador coming into the tournament as the eighth team at that phase of the tournament.
Canada were crowned champions of the 2005 Youth Cup with a 4-0 win over Guatemala in the final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Jamaica had clinched third spot with a 3-0 win over T&T. In the 2006 edition, Mexico defeated Haiti 3-0 in the final with T&T finishing third with a 2-0 win over the Jamaicans.
The TTFF has already set about in overseeing screening sessions towards the selection of a new National Under 15 team to contest the upcoming championship.

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

There was a regional competition scheduled to get underway on July 8th. The U-15 and Senior teams of each zone were to play corresponding fixture on Sundays. TFA was to play SFA on opening day. The information I received from TFA was that the zones in Trinidad were not ready and a new start date would be set. In retrospect, this may have been a part of the screening process. Hopefully the zones would have shortlisted players who may now be included in the pool.
Live large and prosper!

Griffith expects U-15 Jaguars to do well
By Donald Duff (Starbroek News)

Wednesday, August 8th 2007

WE'RE READY! The confident bunch of Under-15 footballers at the Thomas Lands YMCA building last evening prior to their departure for the Caribbean Football Union tournament in Trinidad and Tobago. (Lawrence Fanfair photo)

Lawrence `Sparrow' Griffith, manager of the national Under-15 team which leaves this morning for Trinidad to compete in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) football tournament feels the team should give a good account of itself.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport last evening, Griffith pointed out that the team was a relatively new one with not much experience.

He said the coaches were "overwhelmed by the improvement shown" during the two weeks the team was encamped at Kwakwani adding that he was confident that the team would do well.

The Guyana team has been grouped with Jamaica, Dominica and the British Virgin Islands but Griffith said he had no qualms over the fact that his team would be opposing the Jamaican junior Reggae Boyz in their first encounter on August 19.

"Everybody is starting from scratch at this level," he declared explaining that there was not much difference in the skill levels of the region's 13 and 14-year-old soccer stars.

This CFU U-15 tournament Griffith said serves as preparation for the region's footballers who will compete in next year's Under-17 World Cup qualifiers.

Griffith said the CFU was in essence giving the regional footballers two years to prepare so as not to be at too much of a disadvantage when they came up against teams from the top soccer countries.

The Guyana team will be based at the Marvin Lee centre of Excellence and will play all their matches at that stadium, said Griffith.

The Guyana team which will leave sometime this morning comprises 18 players along with five officials.

The 18 players named are:(Forwards) King Archer, Marko Marcus, Andel Norton, Lindsley Jones, and Runnel Gordon; (Midfielders) Lindon Benjamin, Jevon Gibson, Jermain Batson, Eon Alleyne, William Europe, Keon Belgrave and Mark Jhingoree; (Defenders) Les Charles Critchlow, Troy Lewis, Treyon Hamilton and Joshua Kamal and (Goalkeepers) Peter Miggins and Jamal Gibbons.

Apart from Griffith the other officials are: Lyndon France (head coach) Bilaal Nantambu and Gilbert Sampson (assistant coaches) and Goalkeeper coach Gavin Brown.

Coach France said that natural talent and skills of the players as well as their conduct and discipline were critical considerations for the selection.

The encamped squad participated in over 20 practice and training sessions and competed in two practice matches.

The team will be encamped for another week in Trinidad and Tobago and, in addition to several more practice and training sessions, are expected to engage in at least three more practice matches.

Carrington to name T&T Under-15 squad today

Carrington to name T&T Under-15 squad today
BY NIGEL SIMON (Guardian)

Saturday 11th August, 2007

REYNOLD CARRINGTON, coach of this country’s national Under-15 football team will name his 18-man squad for Caribbean Football Union Youth (Under-15) Cup today following a practice session at Skinner Park, San Fernando from 9 am.

Carrington was speaking at the launch of the tournament at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

Commenting on the preparation of the local squad, who will meet Aruba in the tournament next Saturday, Carrington, a former national player said, “The team has been in training for a while now and we are now down to 25 players which will be cut to 18 by tomorrow (today).”

Looking ahead to the 19-team tournament in which T&T will also meet Bahamas and US Virgin Islands in their Group A matches, the national coach said it is important not to take any team lightly.

“We cannot go into the tournament thinking that the senior teams and junior teams of each country play the same way and have the same level.

“Youth teams and senior teams are very different and for us it will be very important that we take every opponent seriously.”

Based on the history of football in the region, T&T’s Under-15 footballers have been handed what can be considered an easy first round draw in the third CFU Youth Cup.

As stated by Angenie Kanhai, the general secretary of the CFU, T&T opens Group A play versus Aruba on August 18 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 5 pm.

T&T play The Bahamas and US Virgin Islands on August 21 and 23, respectively, in the tournament which runs until August 30.

The annual CFU tournament will have 17 Caribbean teams along with a T&T President’s XI and guest team El Salvador.

The first round of the 2007 CFU Youth Cup will have five groups playing in five venues: Dwight Yorke Stadium (Bacolet), Marvin Lee Stadium (Macoya), Larry Gomes Stadium (Malabar), Mannie Ramjohn Stadium (Marabella) and the Hasely Crawford Stadium, (Mucurapo) from August, 18-23.

The group winners, along with the three best second-place finishers, will advance to the quarterfinals on August 26 to be played at Macoya and Mucurapo.

The semi-finals are scheduled for August 28, with the third-place match and final set for two days later at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Canada won the first CFU Youth Cup after defeating Guatemala by a score of 4-0 in the final held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in 2005.

Jamaica took the third-place honours earlier in the day with a 3-0 win over T&T.

Last year, Mexico captured the CFU Youth Cup, when it was an Under-16 event, after topping Haiti 3-0 in the final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on August 27. The 2006 tournament, which also doubled as the Caribbean preliminary qualification to the Concacaf Under-17 final round, had T&T taking third at the CFU Youth Cup following a 2-0 triumph over Jamaica.

2007 CFU Youth (U-15) Cup—T&T

Group A: T&T, Aruba, Bahamas, US Virgin Islands

Group B: Antigua & Barbuda, Cayman Islands, Grenada

Group C: El Salvador, Barbados, Netherlands Antilles, President’s XI

Group D: Bermuda, St Kitts/Nevis, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname

Group E: Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, British Virgin Islands.

U-15s look to US Embassy as deadline looms for CFU tourney
By: Jamaica Observer

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

UP to late yesterday, the secretariat of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) was sweating over whether the United States Embassy would afford Jamaica's Under-15 football team emergency appointments for interviews to be granted today for US visas to travel to participate in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-15 Youth Cup in Trinidad & Tobago.

The team is booked to travel tomorrow, via Miami, USA, for the start of the tournament, which is slated for August 18-31.
According to JFF general secretary Burchell Gibson, seats were initially booked for a direct flight on Caribbean Airlines to Trinidad, but they had to "give up the seats because we could not finalise the squad on time", and the airline needed to confirm bookings going into the present peak period.

The Patrick 'Jackie' Walters-coached squad, yet to be released to the media, was selected sometime last week, and according to Gibson, "majority of the players didn't have passports".

Emergency appointments were made at the Ministry of National Security and the passports were received earlier this week. However, as soon as the JFF got out of that trouble, another one stared them in the face, as inquiries revealed that there were no available seats on Caribbean flights to Trinidad.

With the CFU Youth Cup kick-off drawing near, that situation forced the local governing body to explore travelling through Miami, but yet another problem arose as the earliest US visa appointment date for interviews is early November.

The JFF has since sought audience with the Consular section of the US Embassy with a view to have the players processed expeditiously. Gibson told the Observer last night that he has requested a letter of support from the CFU to take to the US Embassy.

Jamaica won the Caribbean segment of the inaugural Under-15 tournament in 2005, but finished third overall behind champions, Canada, along with Guatemala, who were invited as guest teams.

The CFU Youth Cup was designed by the CFU as a requirement with a mandate to develop youth football in the Caribbean that would make the teams more competitive at the various international levels.

Nineteen Caribbean nations will take part in this year's tournament, with seven teams advancing to the quarter-final stage, where they will be joined by guest team El Salvador.

Jamaica are placed in Group E alongside Guyana, Dominica and St Maarten. They are set to play their first game on Sunday against Guyana.

The CFU Youth Cup alternates between Under-15 and Under-16 in preparation for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Finals.

What you mean by that? So what if most of the players from south? When all the players on the team from the north nobody complain, but the minute is mostly south players is a problem. Chill out yes.

This is just Boxhill's final contribution to help the other Caribbean teams. His last wish being fulfilled if our U-15 Young Boyz does not make it to the annual CFU Youth Cup.
Boxhill wil be out of the JFF Office even before the November elections and Jamaica's football will rise from the ashes like the Phoenix. And so much for the better unlike the TTFF.  ;D

Boxhill's bombshell
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) boss will not seek re-election in November

The much anticipated showdown between the incumbent Crenston Boxhill and the former president seeking re-election, Captain Horace Burrell, for the presidency of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on November 4, 2007, will not take place.

Boxhill, who has held the post since his defeat of the former army man in November, 2003, yesterday made it clear that he will not be seeking re-election for that post.

In an interview with The Gleaner yesterday, Boxhill cited the increased polarisation of the country's football and the unlevel playing field, with contender Burrell 'compromising the process' by his sponsorship of a number of parish associations as major reasons for him to step aside.

'I have had consultation with my family and other football interests and taking into consideration among other things, the upcoming qualifiers for both Olympics and World Cup tournament, I have decided that in the interest of Jamaica's football not to participate as a candidate for the post of president,' Boxhill told The Gleaner.

'In light of the upcoming congress, I have two major concerns, which I think are important to state publicly. Firstly, and unfortunately I do not believe that this will be a level playing field. The sponsorship of the majority of the parish associations by one of the candidates, to a large extent, will compromise the process,' Boxhill said referring directly to the Captain's Bakery, owned by Captain Burrell, swarming most of the parish associations with sponsorship.

Boxhill added: 'Secondly, I have always been concerned about the deep divisions in the sport. The current administration has faced the most consistent effort of undermining than any previous administration and it does occupy my mind that if it is going to continue, how realistic it will be to build on the momentum, if at every step of the way one has to be looking over one's shoulders.'

In every January since assuming the position, the Boxhill administration faced, previously unheard of, calls for a vote of no-confidence by factions loyal to the Captain. That, according to Boxhill, caused football followers to lose all sense of objectivity and support for the sport, which brought so much unity to a nation upon its historic qualification for the 1998 World Cup in France.

Groundwork

Despite the challenges faced, Boxhill opined that the groundwork has been laid for the programme to rebound, especially after the expected windfall from the 1998 qualifications failed to materialise.

'This is a very exciting time for anyone seeking the position of president of the JFF with among other things, the youth programme beginning to evolve and have an impact. This I believe has set the stage for the relaunching of the national football programme,' he said.

'This is a legacy I hope will be followed. Even though the success of the senior programme is essential to the success of the overall programme, in order to be sustainable, remain competitive and in a position qualify continuously for major FIFA tournaments, the base must be strong,' he added.

In addition to the focus on the base, Boxhill also spoke of the rise of women's football to ne and expressed the hope that that would continue. The national football academy he said, 'despite the many obstacles, will open its doors before year end in an ideal location with immense possibilities'.

He also spoke about the federation's new policy of assisting parishes with 'financing and development at the parish level, so important in the sustainability of the sport' but most importantly, he expressed the view that that plans for the Back to Africa campaign are on track.

'The Back to Africa campaign will step up in momentum. Some high-quality sponsorship yet to be revealed, that will support, especially the senior programme, but we expect greater interest in the youth programme from sponsors, especially at this time as we continue to bask in the glory of the success of one of our youth teams at the recent Pan Am Games,' he said.

And so much for the better unlike the TTFF.  ;D[/b]
Oh, but the TTFF has a special advisor who is also the President of CONCACAF and CFU and is a vice president of FIFA ;D
does the JFA have anyone so

Jamaica won't have to. The JFF works through a legit and democratic process.
However, if Jamaica does not enter the CFU Youth Cup. This will give Jack Warner more incentive not to change the format of the Youth Cup in the middle of the tournament like he did in last year.  ???

U-16 nat. squad departs today
By KELSIE JOHNSON, NG Sports Reporter

kelsie@nasguard.com

The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) under-16 boys squad will engage in their first international test on Sunday when they take part in the Caribbean Football Union's (CFU) Under-16 boys tournament.

This will be the first taste of 'foreign blood' for the team, which has been training for more than five months. The team is scheduled to depart the country today for Trinidad and Tobago, to compete in Group A of the five-divisional tournament. Also playing in this group will be the host country Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Aruba.

The Bahamas is scheduled to play their first match on Sunday against the U.S. Virgin Islands and for Technical Director in the BFA, Neidor Dos Santos, the results from the first test will not determine the future of the sport for the team.

"This is a very young team and they are not on the top of the grouping," said Dos Santos. "This is the Under-16 tournament for boys and the majority of the players on our squad are 14 or 15. This is a great thing for The Bahamas because they will all be eligible to play in next year's tournament.

"This is the first international tournament for most of them so we're not counting the wins. What we really want to happen is to give the guys the much- needed exposure and for them to gather experience because this is the beginning of a new generation. I am sure when this all happens the results will be better. We are not counting them out either."

Heading the team will be coach Ian Hutchinson. He will be assisted by coach Darren Beneby and equipment manager Kilroy Farrington.

The Bahamas, which has a hectic schedule, will return to the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Tuesday to take on the host team Trinidad and Tobago, and again on Thursday when they will face-off against Aruba.

The team will need to win the tournament if they wish to advance to the next round. If they finish second, they will have to claim more wins than the other second place teams in the various groups.

AND THE BOXHILL SAGA CONTINUES

Young Boyz still uncertain of CFU U-15 tourney
Thursday, August 16, 2007

With just two days to the start of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-15 Youth Cup in Trinidad & Tobago, there is still uncertainty surrounding Jamaica's participation in the regional tournament.

Up to press time yesterday, there was no official statement from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), except that they had made contact with the Consular section of the US Embassy, and were awaiting a response, regarding their request to have players processed expeditiously.

It was not sure the level of contact made with the US Embassy, and at what stage the negotiations had reached. Nonetheless, the Federation is still hoping to have the team depart the island by Saturday, ahead of their opening Group E game against Guyana on Sunday.

The delegation was booked to travel today, via Miami, USA.
The JFF got caught in this chain reaction of events after they were forced to give up seats originally booked for a direct flight on British West Indies Airways (BWIA) to Trinidad, because they could not finalise the squad on time, and the airline needed to confirm bookings going into the present peak period.

The Observer understands that a coaching team was selected late, which delayed the selection of the training squad, and ultimately the final 18-man squad, which was chosen late last week.

At that point it was realised that majority of the players didn't have passports.

Emergency appointments were made to the Ministry of National Security and the passports were received earlier this week.

Jamaica won the Caribbean segment of the inaugural Under-15 tournament in 2005, but finished third overall behind champions, Canada, along with Guatemala, who were invited as guest teams.

The CFU Youth Cup alternates between Under-15 and Under-16 in preparation for the FIFA Under-17 World
Cup Finals.

Tobago playing in Caribbean Football Union under 15 tourney
By: Tobago News

Friday, August 17th 2007

Youth coach, Toni Keith has been working very hard with the Tobago Football Association Representative under 15 team that will compete in the Caribbean Football Union under 15 tournament.

The results of his effort will be known at the conclusion of the tournament which gets underway on Sunday at various venues throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

The Tobago team is in Group D which will be hosted in Tobago and includes El Salvador, Grenada and Barbados.

The Tobago Football Association president, Harvey Jack is appealing to the Tobago public to come out in their numbers and lend support to the youth players in their quest to advance to the quarter-final stage and hopefully win the tournament.

Hope fades for U-15s
JFF fails to secure emergency appointments at US Embassy
SEAN A WILLIAMS, Assistant Sports editor (Jamaica Observer)

Friday, August 17, 2007

THE desperate efforts by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to get their Under-15 team to Trinidad and Tobago in time for the CFU Youth Cup suffered yet another blow yesterday when they failed to secure emergency appointments for US visas for the players.

A JFF release yesterday stated that the embattled Federation was unsuccessful in securing emergency appointments for the players at the US Embassy in Kingston.

"Online applications for visas resulted in November appointments and visits by a JFF officer to the embassy still did not result in early appointments," the release said.
After their failure in confirming flights on Caribbean carriers to Trinidad, the JFF was forced to resort to taking the delegation through Miami, but hit a brick wall as they sought to acquire the requisite US entry visas.

Up to press time yesterday, the JFF was clinging to faint hopes of getting the team to the twin-island republic for tomorrow's start of the tournament. The Young Reggae Boyz are scheduled to kick off their campaign on Sunday against Guyana.

When contacted yesterday, JFF general secretary Burchell Gibson said "other options were being looked at" to get the team to the Eastern Caribbean in time for the start of the tournament, but he declined to give details.

"It's not a 'no-no' at this time," Gibson said.
The delegation was originally scheduled to leave for Trinidad yesterday.

The JFF got entangled in a chain reaction of events after they were forced to give up seats originally booked for a direct flight on Caribbean Airlines to Port of Spain, because they could not finalise a squad on time, and the airline needed to confirm bookings going into the present peak period.

A late appointment of a coach for the team triggered the delay in selecting a training squad, and ultimately the final 18-man squad, which was chosen late last week.

It was at this point that it was discovered that the majority of the players did not have passports, but emergency appointments were made to the Ministry of National Security and passports were issued earlier this week.

With one problem solved, another emerged as it was learnt that there were no available seats on other Caribbean flights to Trinidad.

In the event that Jamaica forfeits the tournament, it is expected that the regional governing body of football, CFU, would take punitive action against the JFF.

Jamaica won the Caribbean segment of the inaugural Under-15 tournament in 2005, but finished third overall behind champions Canada and runners-up Guatemala, who were invited guest teams.

Young Reggae Boyz grounded
By: Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter (Jamaica Gleaner)

published: Friday | August 17, 2007

Jamaica Reggae Boyz, defending Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-15 Cup champions, will forfeit their title, after last-ditch efforts by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to get emergency visa appointment dates from the United States Embassy failed yesterday.

With the tournament scheduled to kick off tomorrow in Trinidad and Tobago the contingent will have to stay put, owing to the fact that 13 members of the 22-man squad have no U.S. visas. The visas have become a requirement because the flight, which would have taken the team to Trinidad via the Miami International Airport.

The team was originally expected to travel straight to Trinidad via Caribbean Airlines, but lost their seats on that flight due to an inability to finalise the squad so the airline could confirm the booking.

Sources close to the JFF organisation have, however, also indicated that economic concerns might have been a factor in the decision to change flight plans, with the JFF having a current deal with national carriers Air Jamaica.

When The Gleaner made an attempt to clarify the issue general secretary Burchell Gibson refused to comment, stating that the facts of the case were generally known already. The team had an almost identical problem when they won the tournament in 2005 with most of the players being granted U.S. visas at the last minute.

No fruit

According to a press release sent out by the JFF, online applications for emergency visa appointments resulted in November being the earliest possible date. A subsequent attempt to hold a meeting with the consular section of the U.S. Embassy bore no fruit. The JFF had earlier managed a successful emergency meeting with the Ministry of National Security, as many of the players also had no passports.

The situation was a distressing one for head coach Patrick 'Jackie' Walters, who was given a mandate to start preparing the team just a little over two weeks ago, after what seemed to be a very late selection of a technical team by the JFF.

"Of course I think that all of this could have been avoided, but that's an administrative issue. As the coach and manager, we did everything possible to go to that tournament," said Walters, who was assistant coach when the team won the tournament.

"It's a major disappointment for us, but more than that, this set the programme back quite a bit," he added.

CFU Youth Cup to be learning experience
By: Antigua Sun

Friday August 17 2007

Antigua and Barbuda’s participation in the 2007 Under-15 Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup will be a learning experience for the selected players in the travelling 18-member squad.

This is according to team manager, Winston “Pin” Hewlett who said that although he expects a certain level of success from the team that players are in their first year of a three-year programme.

“We run programmes three years in a row in the under-15, under-16 and under-17 and this is the first year so we would have to watch them grow. We did not have enough time to do all that we wanted to do be we are fortunate that we have found a couple of fairly well skilled youngsters and we think that we have a very good core of boys to work with,” Hewlett said.

“We would have liked to have a little more time but as it goes we have three years to go and we are really working in that vane looking for the big one next year and the year after. We are not looking for them to have maximum success – we are looking for them to learn on the way up. I think they are capable of winning at least the first and the second rounds and we expect to have good performances from them,” he added.

Included in the team which was slated to leave Antigua this morning for Trinidad are Rasheed Burton, Shevez Lee, Troy Andrew, Haseley Pyle, Omari Daniels, Karie Browne, Watende Grayman, Quinton Griffith, Kevon Browne, Omar Henry, Eugene Kirwan, Darren Warner, Dario Barthley, Elvis Thomas, Caric James, Javid Roberts, Iroots Appleton and Okeskie Ledeatte.

The management team includes head coach Linnington “Lenny” Hewlett, assistant coach Rolston “Debu” Williams, physiotherapist Kelesha Antoine, equipment manager Ian Stay and referee Albert Burton.

Antigua and Barbuda will take on Grenada in their opening encounter Sunday at 10 a.m. before playing the Cayman Islands on 21 Aug., also at 10 a.m. On 23 Aug., Antigua will battle Haiti at 12 p.m. in the hope of gaining a quarter-finals birth. The finals will be played on 30 Aug.
