Red Bull now gives you skill…
..in this summer’s ‘Red Bull Reaccion’
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Energy Drink Red Bull in association with distributors AS Brydens and Sons (Trinidad)Limited are in search of this country’s best free style footballer who will then move on to represent Trinidad and Tobago in November at the 2007 Red Bull Reaccion final in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It is expected that many local enthusiasts of the world’s most popular sport would be lining up at various qualifying venues across Trinidad not leaving out the sister isle Tobago to have their shot at being crowned the Red Bull Reaccion Champion of Trinidad and Tobago on September 1st.
Red Bull the creators of the tournament are known for their involvement in many extreme sports worldwide and this time the same excitement would be cherished, but without the danger usually associated with the brand.
“As part of our marketing mix, Red Bull has supported sports since its inception, primarily extreme and high action sports,” explained Keeron Roper, Red Bull’s Brand Manager of Trinidad and the South East Caribbean speaking at the launch of the ‘Red Bull Reaccion’ on Wednesday.
“Where better to start in Trinidad than with the most popular sport worldwide,” he said explaining that the tournament began three years ago with Red Bulls ownership of two football teams, the Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and the New York Red Bulls of the Major League Soccer(MLS).
Surely as Keeron Roper explained further in his address, this tournament is expected to bring to the forefront some of our hidden young local talents as well as bring back the kind of vigor in our young untapped footballing talents that this country has lacked since the young days of players such as Russell Latapy and Dwight Yorke.
Roper said that Red Bull’s world wide growth and consumer appeal has created a need to enter the mainstream sports arena while simultaneously maintaining the personality and integrity of the brand.
“It is the ultimate one on one free style skills battle and we are looking for the best free styled skilled person in Trinidad and Tobago,” he said explaining its simplicity. “One football, two players and three minutes to showcase their talents,” Roper said.
He went on to add that it was his company’s intention to provide a platform for footballers to creatively express their skills and passion for the beautiful game.
Pre-Qualifier sessions would take place during the month of August at various venues across Trinidad and Tobago and the Grand Finals of sixteen participants would take place at Mobs2 in Chaguaramas.
The top Trinidad and Tobago free style player would go on to compete against the top qualifiers from 16 participating countries namely Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, fellow Caribbean nation Jamaica and hosts Argentina.

Maybe it stems from their sponsorship of several German sides, and ownership of MLS's NY franchise?

Teenager tops Red Bull Reaccion
Trinidad Newsday

Thursday, September 6 2007

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Kerron Ford of Tacarigua will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Red Bull Reaccion finals in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ford defeated Tobago’s Kerwin Simon in the final showdown to cop the top prize of the evening with a slew of inventive skill combinations to book his ticket for Argentina.

The Red Bull Reaccion Trinidad and Tobago national finals featured 16 talented freestyle footballers from all reaches of the country. They were vying for the chance to join Christian Hidalgo of Bolivia at the finals in Buenos Aires in November.

As the clouds over Port-of-Spain cleared last Saturday morning, those who planned to attend the Red Bull Reaccion national finals would have little clue that another storm would be brewing. It was in the form of the intense and heated football battles that would take place later that day. Red Bull Reaccion has provided, for the first time in history, a competitive framework for freestyle football. In a one-on- one battle format, participants had three minutes to outdo each other with their skills.

The Zen Nightclub created the perfect backdrop for the much anticipated event as it was transformed into an urban street battle arena complete with graffiti and theatre style viewing. However, the most outstanding structure was the centre stage which featured the freestyle battles amongst the participants.

The judges were former Colleges Football League standout and national footballer Darrin Lewis who assessed the competitors on style; Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips, celebrated ex-national goalkeeper, US college coach and TTFF Technical Director who scored on control; and artist and top surfer Che Lovelace who evaluated the participants on creativity.

Ex-national player Leslie “Tiger” Fitzpatrick was also on hand to lend some technical help to the judges.

The judges and the crowd of just under 1,000 were wowed by the creativity, style and control of the participants including semi- finalist and crowd favourite Roger “Crazy Tricks” Perpignac. But, in the end, after three hours of intense competition Ford beat out his fellow competitors. He will join participants from 15 other countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Red Bull Reaccion in TT October 4.

Red Bull Reaccion in TT October 4.
T&T Newsday Reports.

In 2007 Red Bull Reaccion offered a platform for the most talented ball artists in Central and South America.

Red Bull Street Style now opens the stage for the whole world to showcase and battle.

Freestyle Football players from South Africa, Japan, Spain and Greece continue to face off during the national rounds of the Red Bull Street Style tournament.

It is the first and only Freestyle Football competition in the world.

During the next couple of weeks countries such as Brazil, Austria, Croatia, the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Argentina and Ireland — to mention only a few — will also start the search for their national representative.

TT is scheduled to host their local final on October 4.

Red Bull “Street Style” offers an international platform for the world’s most talented ball artists to test their skills against each other.

The ultimate showdown is set for Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the freestylers who advanced from respective national “battle” in more than 40 national contests will meet in the world finals.

Most importantly the rules for the final remain — Three minutes, two players, one ball.

In each “battle” two players square off in a one-on-one duel.

They take alternating 20-second turns with the ball, using their time to show off the best of their artistic moves to the sounds of breakdance and hip hop music.

In the finals, the judges will be evaluating the three-minute flow based on control, creativity and style.

The winner advances to the next round. There are no limits — other than the standard prohibition on the use of hands and a requirement that the ball and performer stay within a seven-metre wide (27-foot) Competition Area.

In 2007, TT’s Kerron Forde went up against Central and South America’s best.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Red Bull searches for top street style footballer
T&T Guardian

The search for a Trinidad and Tobago champion in the Red Bull Street Style football will continue with the quarter finals scheduled for the Movietowne Plaza on Tuesday December 15, from 5 p.m. Last year, 45 countries from all four corners of the globe sent their winners to the World Finals in Brazil, the spiritual home of the beautiful game with T&T being represented by Kerron Ford.

Hundreds of backyard ballers who were blown away in Brazil by the skills of reigning world champion Séan on the freestyle football scene will be looking to challenge for a chance to T&T’s representative in the final showdown in South Africa in March 2010.

Stay up-to-date with all the interviews, stories, facts and dates for the national qualifying tournaments in other countries by visiting www.redbullstreetstyle.com. Streetstylers looking for the ultimate kick will also have the chance to set up their own personal profile, where they can upload images and videos of themself and show other streetstylers who’s really got the skills to pay the bills.

Red Bull Street Style finals today
T&T Express

Sixteen competitors will line up today at Fiesta Plaza, Movie Towne, vying for the chance to battle ’street style’ in the local Red Bull Street Style competition from 6 p.m.

The winner will move on to the World Finals in South Africa 2010, not the football World Cup, but the Street Style final.

Last year, Frenchman Séan Garnier won the inaugural final in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which was contested by the first Trinidad and Tobago winner, Kerron Forde, who has been training hard to try to make his way to South Africa next year.

’I think the experience I got in Argentina and especially Brazil will help me in the competition. I have been training all year and hope to meet with some of my friends again in South Africa,’ said Forde.

The event will be judged by former ’Soca Warrior’ Brent Sancho, who will deliberate on style, while Terry Fenwick (control), returning coach at Pro League outfit San Juan Jabloteh, and soca star Shurwayne Winchester (creativity) are the other judges.

For 2009/10, Red Bull Street Style is set to step it up a level, with hundreds of national qualifying tournaments expected across the planet before the best of the best meet for the final showdown in South Africa in March 2010.

Those seeking further information on the Red Bull Street Style competition can contact 674-9191 ext 544 or 771-5885.

Forde wins freestyle football title.
By: Shari John (T&T Guardian).

It was officially announced three rounds later, but Kerron Forde secured his third Red Bull Freestyle title in his first 20 seconds on the stage at MovieTowne’s Fiesta Plaza on Tuesday.

Three minutes, two players, one ball...those are the rules of the game, as players battle each other, showing off their skill in 20 second exchanges of freestyle supremacy.

Judged by Soca Warriors defender, Brent Sancho, Soca Artiste Sherwyn Winchester and Jabloteh head coach, Terry Fenwick, the final decision was a unanimous one, as with most of the decisions throughout the night.

With a ‘side head stall’ to begin and a ‘shin stall’ to end, the defending champion brought a breath of fresh air in his first three minutes and ignited the previously palled crowd which had waited over an hour for the competition to begin and was quite obviously unimpressed with what was being offered to them before.

“You set the crowd alive,” said Fenwick, after Forde announced his arrival to the competition with his precise style, control and creativity which were the criterion used for judging.

Forde introduced new tricks in his first battle, including a ‘round the world’ and ‘sleeping while balancing the ball on his head’, demonstrating his exposure, having represented T&T at the international Freestyle Tournament for the past three years, in his battle against Mark Taylor.

“It feels great knowing that all the training and hard work actually paid off again,” said the 18-year-old on winning his third national title. He said he believed it was his style and creativity which set him apart from the rest.

“I also think my experience in the international competition and seeing freestyling on that level has really helped,” said Forde. His only challenge on the night he said, was adjusting to the new material of the ball, which was different from that used in previous years.

His final competitor, Jonathan Miller, did well to keep himself in the game for at least a short time, but the winner had long been decided, and Forde has freestyled his way to yet another title and a trip to South Africa, where the international final will be held.

And, unlike the 2008 final in Brazil where he did not place, the Business Management student hopes that this time he can step up and do a lot better.
Ford 3-time T&T 'Street Style' champ.
T&T Express Reports.

For the third time running, Keron Ford emerged champion of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Bull Street Style Final at Fiesta Plaza, MovieTowne.

Last Tuesday, 15 other participants tried their best to outdo Ford with their tricks, flicks, control and creativity, but the returning champ impressed the trio of judges-former T&T footballer Brent Sancho, San Juan Jabloteh coach Terry Fenwick and entertainer Shurwayne Winchester-enough to earn their approval.

Ford, who edged Jonathon Miller for the title in the ultimate round of the event, will now compete at the world finals in South Africa in March.

’I feel really happy to win and even more to win three years in a row. I’m glad to represent Trinidad and Tobago in South Africa and thankful to Red Bull for giving me this opportunity. It would be great to meet up with my friends from all over the world,’ he told reporters after the win.

More than 500 patrons crowded the balcony at Fiesta Plaza and any other space where they could find a view of the fierce competition and cheer for their favourite freestylers.

After showing amazing moves with the ball and some interesting trick combos, including head stalls, ATWs (Around the World) and chin stalls, Keron was chosen unanimously by the judges, taking home the title for the third straight year.

Red Bull Freestyle winner, Kerron Forde ‘break dances’ with the ball during his hat-trick winning performance on Tuesday night at MovieTowne’s Fiesta Plaza, Invader’s Bay. Forde beat Jonathan Miller in the final round to capture the title for a third consecutive time.
