ARSENAL PRE SEASON TOURNAMENTS
« on: July 27, 2007, 06:24:14 AM »
FELLOW GOONERS

Arsenal are kicking off the inaugural EMirates CUp tomorrow, its a two game per team over two days tournament the team with most goals/points wins. (no final)

the teams in the emirates cup are Arsenal, Inter Milan, Paris St-Germain and Valencia, aresenal wont be playing Valencia. but its a great lil tourney to really test arsenal's metle.

the following weekend is the amsterdam Tournament where Ajax, Lazio, Arsenal and Atheltico Madrid. Athletico beingt he team arsenal wotn't as the tournament follows the same style as the emirates cup

these results i hope will show arsenal are very capable and realistically able to challenge for the title this comiing season.

the next 10 days should tell us alot of whats to come.... or will it?

so chelsea preseason games against MLS teams doesnt say much, manu whipping asian sides, goliath trampling david.

bring it on bitches!

diagnosis: misplaced energy, coupled with a severe case of delusion. water into wine? arsenal simply do not have the team to challenge for the title. maybe in 4 years, IF all their young players remain loyal.

remedy: immediate ceasure of smoking the formaldehyde laced stuff growing there in St. Anns.

Not sure what to make of this new look Arsenal (mind you, i'll never stop supporting them) the squad at full strength looks great on paper but i think the game today REALLY showed that we really lack width. I mean, flamini and diaby out wide today..that's crazy. The smoothe quick style passing and counter attacking we had in past seasons is pretty much gone now.

At the very least we learnt that we're not the only team out there that can control a game and still lose. And of course, Alumnia has really improved.

Tommorow i expect a win if Theo, Rosicky and Ade do come back as said they would, if not, it's a coin toss.

P.S. The tourney i really am looking forward to is the Amsterdam, dwardo will have his chance to show us a lil more of his promise then.

And why can't they challenge for the title eh?

They have a very intriguing team full of youth and vigour... who's to say it's delusional they can't put together some serious rhythm and pull the title away from the Big Guns... and infact... who can say that Arsenal, themselves arn't one of the Big Guns... eh?

Thats cuz they damn right f**kin are.

Now all you pansies and doubters and ridiculer's hiding behind your little keyboards, wait until the season gets under way to post your queer little wanna-be-clever quips...

Because by that time I believe the turn of events will have you retreating the shit currently coming out of your mouth and I can only hope that henceforth you swallow it.

Magic man Van seals win
By Alex Dunn -  Created on 29 Jul 2007
http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=479265&CPID=8&clid=3&lid=3&title=Magic+man+Van+seals+win

PREMIERSHIP SEASON 2007-08

A goal of sublime execution from Robin van Persie was enough to hand Arsenal a 2-1 victory over Internazionale that secured them the inaugural Emirates Cup.

The doom merchants may be hovering over the red side of North London, but Arsene Wenger's band of starlets will be confident the glory years of Thierry Henry can be replicated in the Frenchman's absence.

Arsenal may be unfancied ahead of the forthcoming campaign but on Sunday, against the Serie A champions, they were dominant throughout, in a typically polished display that was ever easy on the eye.

It was Van Persie at the hub of much of the home side's best work, as the Dutchman dropped deep to link-up with his midfield; a creative epicentre that will be bettered by few next season.

Van Persie drew the first save of note from Julio Cesar with a low drive, before going close again, with a snapshot and a free-kick that dipped just over.

On the right flank in an advanced role, Emmanuel Eboue caused mayhem with a succession of driving runs, while behind him, new boy Bacary Sagna, looks every inch an Arsenal player.

Mathieu Flamini brought another save from Cesar, as did Sagna, but the scores remained level at the interval despite Arsenal's incessant inventiveness.

Arsenal will wonder how they failed to be granted a penalty when Van Persie was pushed in the back and, their frustrations were further compounded, when on a rare Inter foray, David Suazo planted a fine header beyond a previously peripheral Jens Lehmann.

A familiar Achilles heel of missing chances and being punished seemed to be emerging, but Arsenal's players responded in the best possible manner, as Alexander Hleb drew them level, with a shot on the rebound, after Francesco Toldo had produced a fine stop to deny the classy schemer.

The best, though, was still to come when with just five minutes remaining, Van Persie received the ball on his favoured left foot and with a gorgeous swivel, moved the ball on to his right, leaving an Inter defender bamboozled, before hammering a shot beyond a crestfallen Toldo.

Haters :whip: :whip: :whip:

Watch Eboue on the flank this year! The best crosser on the team and he have the spine to run corner flag to corner flag.

I went to the games on Saturday and Sunday - a few observations:

- Arsenal are the same team they were last season. Not having Henry isnt going to make much difference. They will finish fourth again.

- Bendtner is a $h!ttong, so Gunners fans better hope Van Percy doesn't get injured.

- Diaby is a star in the making, looks and plays like Vieira. Denilson is looking good as well.

- Arsenal may have played well and beaten Inter, but I wouldn't read too much into that. Inter weren't match fit at all. Plus, Arsenal scored both their goals after Inter had taken off their central defensive pairing of Materazzi and Samuel, replacing them with Fatic and Pedrelli (2 players from the youth squad).

- If you thought Ronaldo was fat, Adriano is on another level. The man is about 20 pounds overwieght. If he stays like that, his days at Inter are numbered. Didnt have a shot on goal in either game. Anything that involved running was beyond him.

- For all the "potential" the Gunners had on the field, the best young player out there IMO was the 16 yr old striker who played the first half for Inter(Mario Barwuah)

- David Suazo is looking very good, always looked dangerous. Chrstian Chivu also looks like an excellent signing.

- Was sitting behind the goal for Van Percy's goal - that drag was really uncalled for, the man he handed it to was only a youth team player.  :rotfl:
