Trinidad Loses Basketball Opener To Barbados

CAGUAS (CBC Championship for Men) - Two free throws by Zahir Botara with three seconds left gave Barbados a win over Trinidad & Tobago 69-68 to open the CBC Championship played in Caguas.

The first half ended 46-36 in favor of Barbados and the first quarter 24-12. In the second half Trinidad reacted and ended the third period down 56-53.

With seven seconds left Trinidas was close to the win, but they missed a shot and Barbados captured the rebound and Botara went to the free throw line to give them the win.

Andre Lockhart and George Hanes had 14 each while Botara 11 with 9 rebounds.

Wilfred Benjamin had 15 points for Trinidad & Tobago along with 15 rebounds. Julius Sabih and Steven Lewis had 12 each while Miguel Williams 10 with 8 boards.


Trinidad once a dominate force in regional basketball in the '80's was without several key oversees players like Adrain Joseph form University of Virginia,Marlon Pompey who is now based in Germany,Duane Virgil in Spain and Akil Joseph in California.It was the former champions first appearance since the 2000 tournament where they finished seventh.

                  Puerto Rico Dominates TnT


CAGUAS (CBC Championship) - Puerto Rico continues their dominance in the CBC Championship after beating Trinidad & Tobago 93-67. Puerto Rico has a 2-0 record in the tournament.

The host dominated the first half 56-37 as Larry Ayuso scored 11 points. They extended the lead in the third quarter by winning it 17-12 to have a 73-49 advantage.


Angelo Reyes led Puerto Rico with 17 points and 12 rebounds followed by Peter John Ramos with 14. Carlos Arroyo, Larry Ayuso and Filiberto Rivera netted 11 each. Jose Juan Barea had 10 points and 8 assists.

Julius Sabih led Trinidad with 15 and Steven Lewis 14.

In the first game of day 2 Cuba dominated Barbados 93-69.

Cuba lost the first quarter 27-21 but reacted with a 24-9 second quarter to win the half 45-36.

Allens Jemmot led Cuba with 22 while Henry Simon had 17.

Pearson Griffith and Andre Lockhart had 16 each for Barbados.

Dominican Republic also had a good debut, this time against Guyana 99-76 as they won the first quarter 29-13.

Franklyn Western led the winners with 26, Elpidio Fortuna had 18 and Ivan Almonte 15. Jack Michael Martinez was key with 9 points, 12 boards and 8 assists.

Gordon Kaliber had 18 and Sean Powell 15.

On day 3 Bahamas faces Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands takes on Cuba and Puerto Rico finishes against Barbados.

Diaz real bull shit ,unless men stop playing since I was down there,geez we suck really bad .Daiz what them youths stop playing cricket and football for ,to suck so bad lol . .Puerto Rco is alrite we ein t in them class .
