STUTTGART, Germany (AP) - Germany coach Joachim Loew expects Michael Ballack to miss the friendly match against England due to his ankle operation.
Loew said it was "unlikely" that the Germany captain and Chelsea midfielder will be fit for the Aug. 22 match at Wembley after his operation in early July.
"I assume that he will miss the game as upsetting as that is," Loew said at the Bundesliga season opener between VfB Stuttgart and Schalke on Friday.
"If he isn't 100 percent, I won't play him. I would like to have him in a game like that, but probably not," Loew added.
Midfielder Torsten Frings also won't be available due to a knee injury.
Loew will announce his roster for the England match on Thursday.
