MADRID, (Reuters) - The studios of British architect Norman Foster have been selected to carry out the remodelling of Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium, the Primera Liga club have said.
Foster was responsible for designing the new Wembley but Barca's director of capital resources Joan Franquesa was keen to stress the Nou Camp project was completely different.
'The proposal will not be similar to Wembley in terms of aesthetics but will reflect its modernity and functionality,' Franquesa was quoted as saying on the club's Website.
They said they hoped to transform the stadium into 'an iconic element of the city.'
The estimated cost of the project is around 250 million euros and it will reportedly increase the capacity to around 104,000.
Foster's other projects have included the restoration of the Reichstag in Berlin, the Millennium Bridge in London, Hong Kong Airport and the Millau viaduct in France.
