Bethel United hold Coaching School
Friday, October 12th 2007

Bethel United have only themselves to blame as they allowed a two goal lead to slip and could only come away with a draw against Coaching School in their home fixture at the Montgomery Recreation Ground last Sunday.

Dwayne Marcelle' 21 st minute item gave Mega Brite Bethel United a 1-0 halftime lead. Then in the 74 th minute, Jason Surrey doubled the lead from close range. The Carnbee Trace based team never gave up and the inclusion of Denzil James in the latter stages of the second half proved decisive.

The Coaching School mid-fielder scored a brace in the final ten minutes of the game to give his team a share of the points. His first was a header from close range in the 81st minute. Then in the 88th, he left Bethel's custodian Keston Saul, a mere spectator, as his 35-metre blast sizzled into the back of the net.

In other matches played, Stokely Vale remained top of the standings on 36 points after blanking Sidey's 2-0 behind a Micheal Carrington's strike and an own goal from Kirton Warrick at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in the second game of a double header. In the first game, Charlotteville Unifiers overcame Mason Hall PYC three goals to one to occupy third place on the eleven team standings. Castara Retreat Goal City are second on 29 points while Coaching School lies fourth, one point adrift. The encounter between Pepsi Hills United and Earlbrokes at Richmond did not materialise because of the late arrival of Hills at the venue.

Stokely Vale win inaugural Community Cup
Friday, October 12th 2007

It was a pulsating encounter between two perennial rivals with the balance of play flowing back and forth. Curtis Job capitalizes on a goal-keeping error by Coaching School's custodian, Kyle Joseph, to put his team in front with only four minutes on the clock. Joseph failed to hold a low drive from Micheal Carrington and the "Ghost" was on spot to ram in the rebound.

Coaching School's response was almost immediate as four minutes later Keon Price stooped low to nod in a perfect cross from the left flank. For the rest of the half, the game became a war of attrition with both teams cancelling each other out.

The best chance fell to Stokely Vale in the 44th minute. Micheal Carrington was brought down in the penalty area by Al Caines. With the player sent off for a second booking, up stepped Darien Skeete to blast the ball wide of the post.

However, in the 59th minute Stokely Vale made amends through prolific midfielder, Carrington whop took on the Coaching School's defence to beat Joseph all ends up. Coaching Schools never gave up and launched several dangerous raids which were repelled by their opponents.

Stokely Vale vs St. Clair’s Coaching School

The crowd had now grown to close to 1,000(my estimate) at start of the Cup final. From the kick off, the action was end to end, and play was very open. Four minutes into the game, Stokely Vale were awarded a free kick about 12 yards outside the box. It was a well struck free kick that the keeper got to, but could not hold on to. Curtis “Imo” Job was first to the loose ball and tapped it home for the early lead. This sent the “Barracks’” faithfuls into a frenzy. Four minutes later, Coaching School would restore parity Keon Price. Caines eluded his marker on the left flank and his early cross was met by an unmarked Price who banged home the equalizer from 12 yards out. This would bring Coaching School to life. They were enjoying the better of the exchanges and created a few anxious moments for the Stokely Vale rearguard. Midway through the half, Anthony regained possession at the halfway line on the left side, cut back inside playing a probing cross into the box that was headed over by a wide-open Price at the far post. Price again brought the best out of keeper Alfred who dove to his left deflect his drive wide. One minute before the break, picked up the ball outside the box on the left side, eluded Caines and broke free into the box where Caines brought him down and was shown the red card by referee Lester Alleyne. Skeete stepped up to take the resulting penalty, and missed wide left. They match was evenly poised at the break 1-1.

On the resumption, Coaching School had reorganized their team and their approach. Nicholson dropped back into midfield with the solitary Price up front. Stokely Vale were being frustrated as Coaching School were getting bodies behind the ball in defence and a bit more patient in attack. Ten minutes into the second half, the apparently injured Skeete was replaced by Osmond. Shortly after, Price missed a golden opportunity to but his team ahead. He was played thru the inside left channel by James for a one on one with the advancing keeper. He delayed too long, dribbled into the path of the recovering defender, and was dispossessed. Carrington was once again looking interested, and was finding the ball more frequently, which always gives Stokely Vale that cutting edge. McDougall, the speedy right-winger got behind the defence and his cross found a wide-open Kerr who shot wide from six yards out at the hour mark. “Imo” headed over soon afterwards from a corner kick. Carrington then latched onto a through ball down the middle from Leacock, but was denied by the keeper moving brilliantly to his right. In the 64th minute, Carrington again ran free to the left of the goal; however, this time his low drive beat the keeper to his left to restore Stokely Vale’s lead. Desperation began setting in as Coaching School resorted to brutal tactics picking up a handful of cards in the remaining minutes. They never looked likely to score as the Vale’s supporters awaited the final whistle. The final twenty minutes was a bit of an anticlimax, and gave a disappointing end to a game that promised more until the final goal.

Charlotteville Unifiers vs Pepsi Hills Utd

The match got off to a late and uninspired start in front of a paltry crowd. Unifiers were first to settle down, and seemed in control of the early proceedings, but it was Hills United who had the first chance of taking the lead. In the 13th minute, against the run of play, their #9 ran onto a through ball and shot into the side netting from the corner of the 6-yard box on the right. Unifiers finally got their just reward in the 20th minute when McKenzie played searching pass to the back of the Hills defence for a streaking Kevern Murphy to controlled well and beat the advancing keeper for the opening item. Three minutes later, Kevern turned his marker and fired a low right-footed shot from the edge of the box past the diving keeper. Hills were awarded a free kick from just inside the “D” two minutes later. The resulting kick was struck into the wall, and the danger averted. Unifiers were now in full control of the game, and missed several opportunities to increase their lead. Hills were given a lifeline just past the half hour mark, when a long diagonal pass found the #20 who controlled well under pressure then dispatched a low left footed drive into the bottom corner of the net, 2-1. Unifiers continued to mount wave after wave of attack, but Hills came closest to scoring again one minute before the break. A screaming free kick from forty yards out by #14 Cox, was stopped by the keeper, but # 9 was first to respond forcing a point blank save from the keeper.

Unifiers started the second half where they left off in the first, combining well and penetrating the Hills defence with great ease. Five minutes after the resumption, Murphy’s left footed shot beat the keeper only for Cox to make a goal line clearance. Murphy completed his hat trick in the 53rd minute. He beat the goalkeeper and defence to a left side cross, a Hills defender missed his attempted clearance as the ball trickled into the goal. The rampant Unifiers continued to lay siege to the Hills goal in search of goalsand were rewarded with the most comical at the one-hour mark. From a right sided corner kick, the keeper missed the ball, which was headed back across the goal for McKenzie (who was laying on the ground) to head over the line. Kevon “Showtime” Martin was largely anonymous, even when the outcome was already certain. The boys from Charlottevile ran off with an easy 4-1 win and the 3rd place prize.

Results

Charlotteville Unifiers: Quincy Moore, Jahur Martin, Kervin McKenna, Marquel Carrington (Damion McKenna 63), Edson Marcelle, Nocoise Martin, Cha Burris (Rodney Murray 80), Keon McKenzie, Kevon Martin, Akeilon Murphy, Kevern Murphy

Goal Scorers: Kevern Murphy 20, 23, 53, Keon McKenzie 60

Goal City crush Mt Grace Utd
Friday, October 19th 2007

Goal City were also in excellent scoring form when they crushed cellar place Mt Grace United 4-0 last Sunday at the DYS.

Things could have been worse for the newly promoted club as Goal City squandered at least ten easy chances. Kayode Legall grabbed two in the 30th and 85th minute and was supported by Jesse Herry in the 40th and Seon Barry's 44th minute items.

Meanwhile, Stokely Vale continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over relegation threatened Mason Hall PYC in the first game at the DYS last Sunday. Skipper, Curtis Job sent them on their way in the second minute of the game, Darron Williams added a second in the 10th and Keno Kerr added a third from the penalty spot in the 27th to ensure victory before the half. Delano Davis scored a consolation item in the 90th minute for Mason Hall.

At Charlotteville, Unifiers made full use of home advantage by whipping struggling Georgia United 5-1 to stay in contention for a top three finish in the league. Both Kevern Murphy and Kevorn 'Showtime' Martin hit doubles while Nocisa Martin added a fifth. Kerry Stewart got the lone item for Georgia.

The top four places at the end of the 15th round show Stokely Vale (40 pts), Goal City (35 pts), Charlotteville Unifiers (34 pts) and St. Clair's Coaching School (31 pts). At the bottom of the standings are Mt Grace (8 pts), Mason Hall (8 pts) and Roxborough Lakers (13 pts).

The weekly round-up
Friday, 19 October, 2007

League Leaders Stokely Vale began the week nursing a five-point lead over Castara Goal City, keen to avoid any further slip-ups. Automatic relegation looked a two way battle between Mason Hall P.Y.C. and the newly promoted Mt Grace outfit.

Matchdays #4

* Bethel United continued their surge, demolishing Sidey's by a score of 4-1. A brace each by Dwayne Marcelle and Jason Surrey proved their undoing. Sidey's got a consolation goal from Nick Quashie.
* Pepsi Hills United heaped more pressure on Roxborough Lakers scoring a come from behind 2-1 victory. Dyke Reid put Lakers ahead mid-way through the first half, but they lost their way as Hills United fought their way back. A double by second half substitute Eustace Stewart seal the Lakers' fate.
* Charlotteville Unifiers Kept the pressure on Goal City scoring a lop-sided 5-1 win over Georgia F.C. Shey Jery scored the lone item for Georgia, while Unifiers' leading marksmen Kevon "showtime" Martin and Kevern Murphy notched doubles to lead the way. Nocoise Martin rounded out the scoring for the rampant Unifiers.
* St Clair's Coaching School kept pace with the leaders by salvaging a slim 2-1 win over Earlbrokes. Keon Price and Kino Proctor scoring for the victors, and Deon Thomas for the vanquished.
* Stokely Vale completed a 4-1 hammering of Mason Hall P.Y.C. Darron Williams scored a brace, with Keno Kerr and Curtis Job rounding out the scoring. Delano Davis scored for Mason Hall.
* Castara Goal City trounced Mt Grace United by a 4-0 margin. A Kayode Legall double and strikes from  Jesse Herry and Seon Barry kept Stokely Vale in their sight.

Matchday #5

* Pepsi Hills United came away easy 3-0 winners in their game against Mason Hall P.Y.C., with goals coming from Esron Hinds, Eustace Stewart and Keon James.
* Roxborough Lakers prevailed in their encounter with Bethel United. Trailing Bethel by 2-0 midway through the second half, courtesy of a Dwayne Marcelle double, Lakers got late strikes from Elon McConney, Grevon Crooks, Dyke Reid and Shamir Reid to run away with a 4-2 victory.
* Stokely Vale made light work of Mt Grace United, condemning them to a 4-1 thrashing. Keno Kerr led the way for Vale with a brace to go along with goals from Michael Carrington and Curtis Job.
* Sidey's rebounded with a 2-0 win over Earlbrokes, with Glenroy Frederick and Junior Lyons getting on the score sheet.
* Castara Goal City meted out a "royal whipping" to the floundering Georgia F.C. Scoring for City were Kayode Legal and Makesi Jackson with two each, and Kenyon Manswell. Ellis St Hillaire added some respectability to the 5-1 scoreline.
* The headlining clash between title chasers St Clair's Coaching School and Charlotteville Unifiers was abandoned just shy of the quarter of an hour mark. Unifiers' goalkeeper was sent off for a challenge on Kherron McLeod while he was scoring the opener. He broke through the defence leaving the Charlotteville players appealing for offside. Unifiers had a second player sent off for retaliation, then pandemonium broke out as the players surrounded the referee. Having failed to persuade the referee, the Unifiers' players left the field in protest.

Saturday, October 20th 2007

KIEON Kerr netted a brace as defending champions Stokely Vale trounced NLCB Mt Grace 4-1 to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Digicel Tobago Football Association Premier Division.

The boys from Plymouth now have 40 points from 15 games, with 13 wins, one loss and a draw.

In their latest victory, on Tuesday, Kerr was supported by Michael Carrington and Curtis, who tacked on the other two items.

Rodney Wilson was the goal scorer for newly-promoted Mt Grace, who are second-to-last on the table.

Last year's runners-up Castara Retreats Goal City stayed close to the leaders with a crushing 5-1 triumph over Georgia United on Wednesday.

Kayode Legall and McKassie Jackson each hit a double for the winners, who have 35 points, with 11 victories and a pair of losses and draws.

In other results, Roxborough Lakers beat Bethel United 4-2, also on Wednesday.

The victors got goals from four different marksmen, while Dwayne Marcelle had both items for the losers.

In other games, Pepsi Hills United downed Mason Hall PYC 3-0 in a bottom-of-the-table clash and Sidey's FC took care of Earlbrokes 2-0.

LEAGUE leaders Stokely Vale had a handsome 4-1 victory over NLCB Mt Grace United as they continue their relentless trek towards the Premier League title in the Tobago Football Association.

Keno Kerr banged in a double and Michael Carrington and Curtis Job added further goals in Wednesday’s match. Rodney Nelson got the consolation.

But Castara Retreats Goal City kept up their challenge with a 5- 1 thumping of Georgia.

Kayode Legall and Makesi Jackson scored two goals each and Kenyon Manswell got the other while Ellis St Hillaire netted the lone goal for Georgia.

Victory for both teams mean The Vale have 43 points from 16 games while Goal City are five points adrift from the same 16 matches.

But Charlotteville Unifiers are dangerously poised on 34 points after playing just 14 matches.

And ex-champions St Clair’s Coaching School who have been showing indifferent form this season are on 31 points from 15 games. Mid-table Sidey’s shut out Earlbrokes 2-0 on goals by Glenroy Fredericks and Junior Lyons.

In Tuesday’s matches Roxborough Lakers whipped Mega Brite Bethel United 4-2 with Ellan McConnie, Grevon Crooks and cousins Dyke Reid and Shamar Reid doing the scoring. Dwayne Marcelle got both goals for the losers.

Keon James, Eustace Stewart and Esron Hinds scored one goal each as Pepsi Hills United dumped Mason Hall Police Youth Club 3-0 for their 12th defeat in 16 matches.

Meanwhile, Classic Tours Goodwood United and Golden Lane are locked in a close “war” for promotion.

Both teams have seven points each from three games with almost similar goal-difference.

Stokely Vale in cruise control with eight points buffer
Friday, October 26th 2007

Stokely Vale with 46 points retained their eight point's buffer over their closest challenger Castara Goal City, in the race for the Tobago Football Association League Championship title, with a comfortable 4-1 flogging of NLCB Mt Grace last week.

However, attractive football on the field of play last week was marred by a breakdown of discipline in the Coaching School vs Charlotteville Unifiers game at Dwight Yorke Stadium.

In a game that was very physical, referee Leston Romeo was forced to issue the red card to three Charlotteville players. When the third player received his marching orders, two of his teammates walked off, leaving their side with six players and giving Romeo, no option but to blow off the match.

Coaching School was leading two-nil at the time. The TFA president, Harvey Jack said they have received a report on the matter and it will be dealt with soon.

The Association has also been forced to reschedule a number of games because of the unavailability of grounds for various reasons, according to Jack. He added that they will not be using Richmond ground for the rest of the season because they believe it was not suitable for play. Back on the field of play, there were wins for Pepsi Hill United, Roxborough Lakers, Stokely Vale, Goal City, Charlotteville Unifiers and Coaching School.

In the Promotional Play-off, unbeaten Golden Lane who edged Youth Stars 1-0 holds the pole position in the race for promotion.

Scores - Pepsi Hill United 3 - Keon James 1, Hesrone Hinds 1, Eustace Stewart 1 - Mason Hall Police Youth Club 2; Roxborough Lakers 4 - Dyke Reid 1, Ellon Mc Conney 1, Shunu Reid 1, Grevon Crooks 1 - Bethel Credit Union Bethel United 2 - Dwayne Maxwell 1, Rene Nelson 1; Stokely Vale 4, Keno Kerr 2 - Michael Carrington 1, Curtis Job 1- Earl Brookes 0; Goal City 5 - Kayode Legall 2, Kenwyn Martin 1, Mc Casy Jackson 2 - Georgia FC 1- Ellis St Claire; Charlotteville Unifiers 2 - Kevorn Martin 1, Kern Murphy 1 - Castara Goal City 1- Kayode Legall 1; Coaching School 2 - Kern Price 1, Desmond James 1 - Sidey's FC 0; NLCB Mt Grace 2 - Rodney Nelson 1, Clint Beckles 1 - Pepsi Hill United 2 - Nigel Alexander 1, Eustace Stewart 1.

Promotional Tournament - Golden Lane 1 - Youth Stars 0; HV Milan 2 - Phoenix 0.

4 Tobago teams battle for FA honours
Friday, October 26th 2007

Four Tobago teams, three from the Tobago Football Association (TFA) and one from the bmobile National Super League are among the 32 teams seeking FA glory.

The TFA teams are Roxborough Lakers, Bethel United and Stokely Vale while Angostura 1976 Phoenix is from the Super League.

In an ironic twist of fate, TFA teams, Bethel United and Roxborough Lakers drew each other for the Round of 32, schedule to commence on Sunday.

However, though disappointing to the Tobago teams, it ensures that Tobago is guaranteed a team in the Round of 16.

The other TFA team, Stokely Vale has drawn Pro League team Petrotrin United and will have to play at their optimum best if they are to advance.

Super League team 1976 Angostura Phoenix who had a poor showing will host Pro League team, North East Stars and they will be hoping to emulate Tobago United who defeated North East Stars in the Toyota Classic recently.

Village Olympics finals to be played in Tobago
Friday, October 26th 2007

The National Village Olympics finals in the disciplines of football and windball cricket will be hosted in Tobago tomorrow (Saturday).

The finals for the disciplines of netball and basketball will be hosted at a future date because the basketball teams, male and female, are involved in the Super 10 Basketball League in Trinidad.

The netballers have requested a postponement for the final because some of their key players are also involved in the Super 10.

The finals were initially schedule for Trinidad in August and were played, but the Tobago teams were forced to miss it because of the unavailability of confirmed reservations.

However, it seemed that like last year, the Tobago teams would have been left in the cold, but a stinging letter by Garvin McKenzie to Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Minister of Culture Joan Yuille-Williams ensured that the Tobago teams were given the opportunity to compete.

Doc, who do you feel in Tobago should get a call up for trial on the national team seeing that you are there in person seeing these players day in, day out. ?
There's one player whose quality I am sold on and that's Duane "Figo" Murray. The Charlotteville Unifier's attacking trio of Kevern Murphy, Kevon "Showtime" Martin,  and Figo are a joy to watch. Michael Carrington is also a quality player. It is difficult to tell if these guys can make the grade since the overall quality of the league is poor.

I don't know of him, but I'll inquire.
I understand that he is a good midfielder, and plays for Signal Hill now that the College League is being played. His name is Anderson Taylor and he is said to be 16 years old. I hope to see him in action soon.
