Adriano Wins Worst Player Award

Troubled Inter striker Adriano has retained the Bidone d’Oro – ‘Golden Bin’ – award for Serie A’s worst player over the last year.

The dreaded annual prize is organised by Italy’s Catersport Radio 2 and has been running since 2003 when former Milan flop Rivaldo was the recipient.

Adriano has been beset by personal problems for the past 18 months and is currently in Brazil receiving clinical treatment for depression.

The 25-year-old picked up almost a fifth of the votes cast, with fellow Brazilian Dida in second following a number of high-profile mistakes.

Indeed the entire top four are Brazilian as the injury-plagued Ronaldo, who has featured just once this season, is in third, with yet another Milan-owned player Ricardo Oliveira just behind him.

Juventus’ Tiago Mendes is fifth following his disastrously expensive move from Lyon in the summer.

Fiery Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano and Inter’s Luis Jimenez, both of whom have been outstanding in recent matches, are sixth and seventh respectively, while another player who has had an upturn in fortunes, Diego Tristan is eighth.

Former Azzurri wing-back Francesco Coco, and yet another Milan player, Alberto Gilardino complete the top 10.

The top 10:

1. Adriano (Inter) 19.98%
2. Nelson Dida (Milan) 10.86%
3. Ronaldo (Milan) 8.48%
4. Ricardo Oliveira (Real Zaragoza) 6.58%
5. Tiago Mendes (Juventus) 5.99%
6. Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria) 5.89%
7. Luis Jimenez (Inter) 5.52%
8. Diego Tristan (Livorno) 4.68%
9. Francesco Coco (Retired) 4.51%
10. Alberto Gilardino (Milan) 3.16%

Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads.

Jah boy. Adriano musbe feeling so low he go hadda look up to put on he shin pads. And this eh go help him...cuz strikers especially thrive on confidence. Nobody seems willing to take a risk on him.....and unless he get a chance he wont be able to do anything to boost his confidence. I feeling it for him doh. Hopefully he sort himself out...and stay outta de babash.

I wouldn't take dis poll on too much...is a jokey poll by a jokey radio station. Sad to see things turn out dis way for him but hopefully he bounce back. I eh too keen on seeing Vagner Love contantly starting fuh Brazil. Manchester City showing some interest in him but seems like Inter unwilling to let him go. Thing is he is not a big loss, with the strikers dem have.. so they might end up loaning him out

i feel sorry for Adriano. he has so much potential. since his pops died and wife/girlfriend left him after they had there child its been all down hill for him. first was de alcohol now depression, they better watch that young boy closely before he do some shit to harm himself. Maybe he just needs to get out of italy, go back to play in brazil or go to la liga, somewhere he will feel more "at home"

WTF he had to be depressed about.

Yeah his father dies and that is understandable anybody would be. But, he is not the first player who's father has died.

And if he wife leave yuh/horn yuh then 4k she leh she go. You are 25 living the in the most fashionable part of Milan and yuh from Brasil it have more gyal that a lil bit.

Adriano is jes a big baby.

And doh ask for Mr. Ronaldo, that brother like he make from glass. I eh know who worse he or Owen dem fellas need ah bush bath yes.

If Adriano is having such trouble with depression then why is he always getting photographed at the discotecque on evenings before games?

Are frequent visits to the discotecque a symptom of depression??  ???

Nah, but on a more serious note, the French magazine les Cahiers de Football brought out since 2003 the Ballon de Plomb (lead ball) to parody France Football's "Ballon d'Or". However, it only applies to players in the French league (having played at least 6 months last season). This year's nominees are :

    * Fabien Barthez (joined former champs Nantes after the World Cup, left in january after receiving death threats from fans angry at the clubs performances. They were later relegated...

    * Éric Cubilier
    * Stéphane Dalmat
    * Gerard López Segú
    * Damien Grégorini
    * Mohamed Kallon
    * Bonaventure Kalou
    * Johan Micoud
    * Daniel Moreira
    * Matt Moussilou
    * Sammy Traoré
