I heard that while I was away in Trinidad last weekend, Gally brought his UTT team to Tobago to play two games. They defeated Tobago United 1-0, and a Tobago Colleges U-20 team 2-1. I have been unable to gather any other information.

After 24 games UTT only win one AND by default !!! Who coaching that team Jerry Lewis !!!!

UTT win at last, 3-0 by default.
T&T Newsday Reports.

The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) finally registered a victory in the 2008 bmobile National Super League when they earned a 3-0 win, by default, over Crab Connection as a quartet of rescheduled matches took place on Sunday. The “Crabs,” who have undergone a troublesome season, failed to turn up at the Frederick Settlement Ground in Caroni, therefore handing the victory to the UTT squad who had only gathered one point after 23 matches.

The Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 team moved within one point of the defending champions and leaders WASA when they held off ALCOA Carenage United 2-1 in the first of back-to-back matches at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.

Forward Trent Lougheed broke the deadlock in the 41st minute while defender Uriah Bentick doubled the advantage for the Under-20s in the 71st. Kareem Young created some late tension with a strike in the 76th but the national youth team held on for full points.

Another team in winners’ row, at the Tunapuna venue, was the “Eastern Lions” Joe Public, who got a pair from striker Christopher Sam (16th and 56th minutes) to defeat St Francois Nationals 2-0.

Defence Force needed to dig deep in order to overcome a tough fight from M&M Harvard 3-2 at the Defence Force Ground, Chaguaramas. Julius Balondemu put the Army-Coast Guard in front after 13 minutes but two goals early in the second-half from Duran Felician (49th) and Maurice Simpson (53rd) tilted the balance in Harvard’s favour. But there was to be a late twist to proceedings, as Kerwin Coa equalised in the 58th and Kevin Pierre netted the winner in the 86th.

From what I hear, UTT has three different teams in three different leagues.  I think they are doing this in an effort to maximize player development by giving playing time to a larger pool of players.  Something like that I herd back in August.

The success story of UTT's Keron Doldron.

The success story of UTT's Keron Doldron.
Imran H Jan (UTT Release).

The success stories of sporting personalities tend, at times, to be grand and far from our everyday reality. However, it is always refreshing to hear stories of persons we may know and to whom we can relate.

At 23 years of age, Keron Doldron is one such sportsman. Into the final year of his BSc degree in Sport Management at UTT, Keron has slowly worked his way to the top and shows no sign of descent.

His success story began in 2001 in form one at Queen's Royal College (QRC). Without any prior formal football training, he engulfed himself in the sport by joining both his school team and neighbourhood team, Trincity Nationals.

Driven by passion, perseverance and his parents, his efforts would show signs of progress when in 2009, he was invited to train with the national under 20 football team in preparation for the youth World Cup that year. Keron steadily asserted himself on the team, gaining further selection for training tours in Brazil and Venezuela, but would miss out on final selection due to injury.

Such disappointment did not cripple Keron and with the advice of friend and UTT graduate James Brown, he decided to try out for a UTT sports scholarship. Success followed but so too did the challenges. Although his time at QRC taught him to balance sport with academics, Keron still had to work his way up to make the contribution he desired.

Starting off in a defensive position in his first season, Keron played a midfield role in his second season and was eventually promoted to central forward and team captain by his third year. He credits coach Everald "Gally" Cummings with his success.

"He would be straight-forward with us, letting us know exactly where we needed to improve… he also encouraged a family environment and was like a father figure." Together, coach and captain rallied the team to enormous success, winning the second division of the Southern Football Association- a feat never achieved by a university team- and subsequently being promoted to the first division.

Keron Doldron is poised to conquer the future. With plans to further studies in Sport Marketing and coaching he already gives back as a volunteer coach with his neighbourhood club. He explains emotionally, "I just want to give to those kids the same opportunity I had… simple things like helping a child ‘raise' (juggle football) five for the first time makes me feel proud."

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

The University of the Trinidad and Tobago is on a mission to raise just over half a million dollars in order to participate in the FISU University World Cup Football Qualifiers.

It seems a herculean task to get both their men and women's team to participate in their first ever International University tournament but, UTT's management is adamant that it's a journey worth investing in
