Keane rules out starLast Updated: Fri, 25 Jan 2008 11:32
Roy Keane says Carlos Edwards will not be fit to face Birmingham on Tuesday, describing Sunderland's injury list as 'horrendous'.
The Black Cats boss is well aware of the importance of next week's league clash at the Stadium of Light with the two teams, currently 16th and 18th, separated by just goal difference.
But Keane is facing a long list of injury problems ahead of the visit of Alex McLeish's side, with winger Edwards now ruled out of the six-point clash although he may be fit for next weekend's trip to Liverpool.
Edwards is back in training after a broken leg, but Keane admitted: "It's too soon for Carlos, we don't want to take risks with him (on Tuesday). We hope he'll join in with the first team this week and maybe have a practice game next week."
Sunderland will also be without Grant Leadbitter (toe), Danny Higginbotham (toe), Dickson Etuhu (international duty), Kieran Richardson (hamstring), Ross Wallace (knee) and Michael Chopra (one-match ban).
Keane added: "The injuries we've picked up are horrendous. None of them will be available for Tuesday."
