Looking at the replay, that 1st goal should have been disallowed. The ball was out before the cross came. Oh oh! As I typing 2-1 Mex.

Just saw the post-match analysis with that. The big teams always ketch breaks. Wha yuh go do ... While Fiji is not a second half squad, the little things change matches. Arguably, Zlatan's goal to win the Community was offside.

Korea had Germany to dismiss for 4-2 on a wicked counterattack and they ketch stage fright.

3-3. Good match. Two borse goals x Gnabry.

It is not hard to figure out that Brazil has a problem scoring goals. They have superior ball possession, but they are missing a "midas-touch" player at the moment. So far Neymar is unable to find his mark. I hope next game they score one goal more than the opposing team, or else "bye-bye Rio" for them. The Brazilian Federation must figure out why is this problem keep occurring for big tournaments. Do they need to go in the different parts of the country and other sections of the city to unearth the extraordinary talent. Because this crop of players are not living up to the standard that is expected of a Brazilian team.

Japan and South Korea have played some solid football but they both seem plagued with a dose of bad luck. Watch the highlights of Japan-Colombia.

As for Nigeria: tallman Sadiq is delivering! Awesome.

I have doubts regarding the policy of including overage players. Perhaps what's needed is an age limit on the players older than U23.

Obi Mikel is proving himself an exception, but not so sure he isn't the odd old man out.

Son Heung-Min has been good. He jes turned 24. Neymar is a '92 as well. But, Oribe Peralta is too ole a foot and not a first-choice inclusion.

Will have a closer look at the players the European nations have included.

I think the overage players should be under 30.

Why Brazil has problems scoring?

They might be good, but they can't overcome the packed defenses they always face. It might be better for them to let the opposition have the ball and get comfortable.  The same is often said about Arsenal, the huge difference in possession works against them.

Commented above about overage players. A few hours later had a chance conversation with a player who participated as an overage player at the Athens Olympics. In fact, as the oldest player on his squad.

His first comment was: he has been amused by the notion of finding it easy at the Olympics (against nations that people assume ought to represent little to no threat).
People have short memories, despite the historical record.

He played in a group with an African nation, an Asian nation and a UEFA nation. The team was home early after three tight games. Having been dependent on a result in the other match.

On the use of overage players: it depends. Understood the intent on his squad because the idea was to reinforce the spine of the team.

Game done.  USA won the group. Going to Brasilia for 1/4. Colombia was great. The Colombian FA will start a pro-league for their women this coming season. Great ball from them.

They just did. This Arg. team performing like Brazil. Plenty possession but can't score. The Arg.FA has to take some of the blame for this "fiasco". First time since 1964 Arg team has not advance past the prelims. By the way Diego Simeone son came on as a sub.

Some of the officiating in this tourney has been sub-par, and on basic calls at that. Mexico got a corner in their favour that should never have been a corner. From that corner, they won two additional corners. It would have been a huge injustice had Mexico scored. Very sensitive situation because Germany is pummeling Fiji.

The whole thing was hastily put together. Olarticochea was the coach of the women's squad at the Pan Ams when they faced us in the Group Stage. Here he was merely a caretaker-type coach slotting in out of national duty.

Fiji keeper just saved a German penalty kick. Would have been the 9th goal. At this point Germany will advance even with a draw between Mex and Korea. If it is a draw Mexico would go home with the lowest goal diff. so they need to win this one.

@ 77' ... 1-0 Korea. Great goal. Mexico have NEVER beaten Korea at the Olympics. Today would be the day to change that stat. The stat dates back to 1948.

Korea on top now. Mexico has looked good enough to maybe get 2 late goals.
