« on: August 31, 2005, 08:00:27 AM »
Former national football coach Bertille St Clair received the Chaconia Medal (Silver) in the sphere of Community Service.

Former national football captain Sedley Thurstan Joseph was also awarded the Humming Bird Medal (gold) for his sterling contributions to football. The former Maple player and retired Customs and Excise Officer captained the national team for many years in international and regional matches, and was the first person to lead a T&T team in a World Cup series.

Nice move for Bertille to get his recognition.  Not just from a senior National team perspective but for all the work he does in Tobago.

Bertille was also a teacher, a cricket coach, captain of Our Boys steelband in addition to all the footballing stuff he does.

Well done T&T government and congrats to Bertille.

Is different type of medals.

Chaconia Medal:
The Chaconia Medal, Gold, Silver and Bronze is limited to ten (10) recipients each year though the number may be less. It is awarded to persons for work in the social field; to community workers in all organisations which promote community spirit and national welfare, for long and meritorious service in the country or the community in their respective organisations.

Hummingbird Medal:
The Humming Bird Medal, Gold, Silver and Bronze is limited to fifteen (15) recipients each year though the number may be less. It is awarded to persons who have rendered loyal and devoted service which rebound to the benefit or prestige of the community to Trinidad and Tobago in their respective fields of endeavour in the private or public sector or for Gallantry or other outstanding Humane action.

I eh know all Sedley's accomplishments but he was awarded the FIFA Centennial Order of Merit Award last year. De stated reason was:
Long before FIFA started its fair play campaign, Sedley Joseph was an outstanding exponent of fair play. Captained Trinidad & Tobago to a bronze medal at the Pan American games in 1967.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

congrats to bsc although i never really agreed with his selections and views of the game i have played with some of his players and they all were very good decent guys and very loyal to him and for the most part very disciplined,  hard working individuals.  To some of them 'coachman' he was a father figure when they really needed one.
he did some good work in the sister isle.

Happy to see Bertille awarded.  He laid great foundation and put his best foot forward.  Seemed to have contributed alot to the new discipline that we see in the new generation T&T teams. No longer hearing stories of players breaking camp etc.
Supportin' de Warriors right tru.

Congratulations to Bertille St. Clair, he deserves that medal.

One might ask, why not the gold?    What is the criteria ....  .....   .

Anyway, congrats
