I don't know who is the best but so many class midfielders missing. Plus what is classified as a midfielder. With some of the names listed you would have to include Requelme, Bergkamp.

Does Valderrama count within the last 10 years? 1994 WC was 14 years ago...don't remember him playing at a high level too long after that....

PIRLO has been the best italion midfielder over the last 5-10 years without question. While Totti was always blowing hot and cold , he has always controlled the midfield beyond question .

A midfielder I really admired but we did not see the best of him, because he was behinf Zidane for selection. His name was Johan Micoud. Pure magic youtube him, especially when he played for werder Breman. As a matter of fact he was pulling the strings on Saturday for Bordeaux against PSG.

Ivan De La Pena also didn't quite make the impact he could have.
He fall out with Van Gaal at Barca and then lost form at Lazio.
He back now, but at a smaller club in Espanol.
