Senna: It is an honour to be linked with Barcelona
By Soccernet staff

Marcos Senna says that he is honoured to be linked to Barcelona, as the Spanish champions look to replace midfielder Yaya Toure.

Marcos Senna is a crucial figure for Villarreal

Senna, who missed out on the Spain squad that lifted the 2010 World Cup, was one of the stars of the team that won the European Championships in 2008 and has been linked with a move away from Villarreal.

"It is my honour and a dream that Barca think of me," he told Mundo Deportivo. Although Senna added that: "for now there is nothing.''

After eight seasons at Villarreal, the 34-year-old is keen to secure a move to one of Europe's elite and his representative Eli Coimbra believes that the club would not stand in his way if he requested a move.

"I'm sure that if Barca talks with Villarreal, the officials shall not obstruct the exit,'' he said. ''In these eight years, Senna never had any problems at the club, in contrast, has always been very professional and to go to Barca would be a unique opportunity.''

Marquez signs with Red Bulls

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6289011,00.html

Defender Rafael Marquez has signed with Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls, two days after he was released by Barcelona.

The 31-year-old Mexican national team captain joins former Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry at the Red Bulls. Henry made his MLS debut Saturday at Houston, forming an impressive attacking partnership with Juan Pablo Angel.

Marquez joins Angel and Henry to give the Red Bulls three high-priced designated players not subject to the league's salary budget.

Marquez is to be introduced at a news conference Tuesday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

Hodgson's Reds make a bid for Jones!!
« Reply #1120 on: August 05, 2010, 05:47:39 AM »
Liverpool have bid for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones, skysports.com understands.   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

The Reds have been linked with a move for a new shot-stopper with boss Roy Hodgson believed to be keen on providing more back-up for No.1 Pepe Reina.

He has now turned his sights on Boro keeper Jones, who will miss the opening day of the Championship season through suspension.

Australia international Jones missed this summer's World Cup finals as he had to leave the Socceroos squad after his son was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Jones has been with Boro throughout pre-season, but Danny Coyne will start against Ipswich on Saturday because of the Australian's ban.

But it now seems Jones could already have played his last game for Boro, with Liverpool having made a firm bid for the 28-year-old.

Another benefit for Liverpool would be that Jones, who is a product of the North East club's famed academy, qualifies as a home-grown player under Premier League rules.

Boro are now believed to be considering their options as, if they did sell, they would have to go out and sign a new keeper.

Crystal Palace's highly-rated keeper Julian Speroni has already been linked as a possible replacement.

Nigel Henry is back with the Islanders after a half a season of retirment. It's official there are more Trinis in the PR Islanders than Puerto Ricans: Kevon Daniels, Nigel Henry, Keon Villaroel, Osei Telesford, and Jaggy. They are true to their name, most players are from an island.

Scotland set for Town switch
Tractor Boys agree fee for Latics striker

Skysports.com understands Jason Scotland will become an Ipswich Town player on Monday.

Skysports.com revealed on Friday the Wigan Athletic striker was on Roy Keane's radar with the Tractor Boys boss keen to bolster his attacking options before the end of the month.

And it seems the Championship outfit, who dispatched promotion favourites Middlesbrough on the opening weekend of the season, are set to land the 31-year-old forward after agreeing a £1million fee for the former Swansea Cityman.

Scotland endured a torrid first season in the Premier League last year after following former Swans boss Roberto Martinez to the DW Stadium.

The Trinidad and Tobago international found the net just twice in 36 appearances for the Latics and Martinez appears ready to part ways with the powerful marksman.

It is thought Scotland, who had one year remaining on his current deal with Wigan, will complete the move to Portman Road in the next 48 hours.

The ex-Dundee United and St Johnstone forward could be available for Ipswich's next fixture against Exeter in the Carling Cup on Tuesday if a deal can be tied up in the coming days.

Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for defender Ricardo Carvalho.

The move will see Carvalho reunited with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho after working with the defender at Stamford Bridge and Porto.

The 32-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of speculation for some time with Carvalho revealing earlier this summer he would jump at the chance of moving to El Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portugal international will now travel to Spain to hold talks and undergo a medical at the Spanish giants before signing a two-year deal.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho," a Chelsea statement read.

Personal terms
"The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

"Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

A Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid CF and FC Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

"The player will be linked to Real Madrid CF the next two seasons."

The Portuguese centre-back was brought to Chelsea alongside Mourinho from Porto in 2004 after he took over at Stamford Bridge and went on to become a mainstay alongside John Terry in defence helping the Blues will three Premier League titles during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have now decided to let Carvalho move on and it will fuel speculation that Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has lined up a replacement for Carvalho with Benfica's David Luiz strongly linked with a move to West London.

RAMIRES SIGNS FOR CHELSEA

http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2121853,00.html

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce we have completed the signing of Brazilian international Ramires from Benfica on a four-year contract.

The midfielder was granted a work permit on Thursday and finalised his medical in London on Friday afternoon.

Ramires was delighted to complete the deal, and while he will not feature in Saturday's game against West Bromwich Albion, will link up with the rest of the squad for training next week.

'Every player in the world would love to play for Chelsea and it's a great opportunity that was given to me, I will give my best to repay this chance, and I am very happy,' he said.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'He is a fantastic player, a fantastic midfielder, he is very young and will be the future of the Brazilian national team, and I hope he will be the future of Chelsea.'

Ramires Santos do Nascimento joins us after one season with Benfica, in which he helped them storm to the Liga Sagres title, five points clear of Braga in second place.

During that campaign, the 23-year-old midfielder, born on March 24, 1987, made 26 league appearances, scoring four times including a last-minute winner against Vitoria Guimaraes on his debut.

Rio-born Ramires signed for Benfica from Cruzeiro, on the day he earned his first call-up to the full Brazil squad for the 2009 Confederations Cup, a tournament they easily won, and he went on to help them qualify for the World Cup.

Picked in Dunga's 23-man squad, he appeared in four of their five matches but was suspended for the 2-1 defeat to Holland in the quarter-finals after accumulating two yellow cards. His only start was against Chile in the first knockout round, and so far he has 17 caps, most recently against USA in midweek.

Comfortable in either the centre or the right of midfield, he spent just over two seasons in Belo Horizonte with Cruzeiro, whom he joined from Joinville in 2007, and became a state champion appearing in 61 league matches and scoring 10 times.

Mario Balotelli signs five-year deal with Manchester City

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli on a five-year deal.

The Italian foward, 20, has long been linked with a move to Eastlands and the final deal is believed to be in the region of £24 million.

City manager Roberto Mancini said: “I think that Mario is one of the best players of his age in Europe, and I very happy to be working with him again.

“His style of play will suit the Premier League, and because he is still so young there is a big chance for him to improve. He is a strong and exciting player, and City fans will enjoy watching him.”

Balotelli has scored 28 goals for Inter since making his debut in December 2007, but a well-documented fall out with José Mourinho saw the striker’s San Siro future come under constant speculation.

His arrival looks certain to see Craig Bellamy leave the club after Mancini told the Welshman he is free to leave. Fulham have expressed their interest in the forward however it is believed that his preferred move will be to Tottenham.

City’s summer spending has now passed the £100 million mark and it is set to continue to rise with Mancini’s continued interest in Aston Villa midfielder James Milner.

Real Madrid have announced that they have agreed a deal with Werder Bremen for rising star Mesut Ozil subject to a medical.

The 21-year-old shot to fame with Germany at this summer's World Cup and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his interest in the playmaker, whose contract in his homeland was due to expire in 12 months.

However, Ferguson has been beaten to the signature by old rival Jose Mourinho, who is now in charge at Real, after an undisclosed fee was agreed.

Bremen rejected an initial bid of under £10million from Real, much to the disappointment of Ozil, but it was then reported in Spain on Monday that an £11.5m fee was all but agreed.

Real have now confirmed the deal, with a short statement on their website reading: "Real Madrid and Werder Bremen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Mesut Ozil."

Bremen had forced Real to rush due to the intent of the Bundesliga club's manager, Klaus Allofs, to play Ozil in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League qualifier against Sampdoria.

The youngster would therefore have been cup-tied for Real and Mourinho understandably wanted to avoid that scenario.

Ozil joins fellow Germany international Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu as Mourinho continues to reshape his inherited squad after arriving from European champions Inter Milan at the end of last season.
