Dynamic/Static IP question
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:34:42 PM »
Does anybody know how to change a Dynamic IP to a Static IP, even if its temporary, without having to pay for the change of service?
I tried some stuff already but it didn't work cause i think i have the wrong DNS server address.

Or is there a way I can 'fool' my pc into thinking i have a Static IP?
btw I'm with Embarq/Sprint DSL.
Thanks

I could get you started.  I assuming you at home and have a router (box the company give you).  you type in "192.168.1.1" in a web browser like internet explorer or whatever and log into your router .  default username and password for router is usually written under the "box".  there usually have options on how to change to static.

if when you type that number in the browser notheing happen then if you runnign windows xp you could click start -> run and type "cmd" or "command" and get the dos prompt, then when the prompt come up type "ipconfig /all" I forget if it have a space or not.  then you could read off the "default gateway" number and type that into the browser address bar.

I jus trying to save eman some typing...I sure he will be able to add more.
