Family Reunion in Mississippi
Demmin bothers to debut Friday, May 9 against defending champs

CLINTON, MS – Dwyane Demmin is easily the most recognizable player for Mississippi Brilla FC. The 6’4” defender from Trinidad & Tobago is an undisputable intimidating force on the field. His presence is vital to his teammates as he logged 1,440 minutes in 2007, or, in simpler terms, every minute of every game.

His presence is feared, yet respected by opponents as he earned All-League Team honors in 2007 and was one of three finalists for Defender of the Year. Off the field, he is the fan favorite. He has his own following of kids and adults. His popularity is the result of his huge smile, charming personality and compassionate heart.

“Dwyane Demmin can do it all,” said Rusty Bryant, President of Mississippi Brilla. “Everybody loves Dwyane.”

Demmin may get a run for his money on Friday, May 9. That is when Craig Demmin comes to town to play alongside his younger brother as Mississippi Brilla ushers in the 2008 season with a home date against the Laredo Heat.

Older brother Craig got a jump on wowing the Mississippi soccer community as a four-time collegiate All-American at Belhaven College in Jackson, MS in the early 90’s. The brothers teamed together in 1997 as they led the Jackson Chargers to a successful season in the PDL. Craig went on to have two highly successful stints with the Rochester Rhinos in the USL-1 (1998-2000, 2002-2005) and was named the team MVP three times. Craig was also the 6th player selected in the 1st round of the 2001 MLS SuperDraft. He started 19 games for the Tampa Bay Mutiny of the MLS in 2001. In addition, Craig was a member of the Trinidad & Tobago National Team from 1995-2003.

For the last several years, Craig has been an assistant coach with Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. He also helps run a highly successful soccer academy for children in Rochester.

“We spoke with Craig earlier this year and learned that he was not planning to play anywhere this summer,” said Bryant. “We knew that we had to do everything possible to get the Demmin brothers on the field together as much as we could this summer.”
The Demmin brothers will make their much anticipated season debut together on Friday, May 9 at 7:00 PM at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland, MS. Mississippi Brilla opens against the defending PDL champions, the Laredo Heat.

Because of family obligations and other soccer related commitments, the older Demmin may not be in Mississippi much this summer. However, his presence will surely be felt when he is in town.

“Having Craig here to begin our season is a big boost for us,” said Bryant. “It will be great for our young players, for our fans and especially for Dwyane. We are excited about the family reunion.”

Craig Demmin will come and go, as he is able this summer. The younger brother will stay and lead Mississippi Brilla’s playoff push throughout their second season.

After all, this is little brother’s town, and this is little brother’s team.
