Ball moved forward; unlike the klutz in the first video the kicker in the second video didn't kick the ball a second time until it was kicked by another player ... blah blah blah ...

The first video should have resulted in an indirect free kick to the opponents. Ent?

Yuh beloved Arsenal tried it a couple years ago and look like a pack of asses.

Jackass Pires couldn't even kick the ball properly and from the direction of the run that Henry make (directly toward the ball) is like he intended to pick it up and waltz in the goal.

It is legal but a penalty is a simple enough opportunity that I feel introducing these gimmicks only makes it harder to score. As soon as defenders glom on to the trend it will become useless. When I used to play I would always rush into the box when the player hit the ball, whether defending or attacking.

One of the Methuselahs on the forum could probably comment more authoritatively from the point of personal experience ... I have never seen it done.

However, aside from the element of surprise (huge as that is) ... here are the downsides as I see them ...

1. The narrowing of the angle by the keeper (assuming she/he overcomes her/his shock and recognizes/reacts to what's taking place) ... versus the limited time had by the attackers for execution of the sequence. (notice the ball was played back to the original kicker)

2. The other player involved has some ground to cover (because of where she/he has to be when the ball is kicked initially)

3. The ball has to be played in @ an angle by the kicker (because it has to be played fwd) and that creates some of the same negative scenarios as on a poorly executed free kick

4. Why complicate the efficiency of a standard penalty by multiplying the number of personnel involved. Multiple personnel = a factor of complication.

if people start trying that kinda penalty it not hard to stop..

defenders just grab hold of the attackers at the top of the box.

de worse go happen is the ref go blow a free kick outside the box, or order a retake.. that is if he even have de stones to whistle.

1:35..  that looking like the velodrome

That is Barbados in the game where they score the own goal to win.

Always a funny story.

Form the Guardian

The crazy events took place in a Shell Caribbean Cup match between Barbados and Grenada in 1994.

Going into the last group game, Barbados needed to beat Grenada by two goals to qualify for the final stages. Anything less and Grenada went through. So far, so simple. Except that the organisers had decided that, in the case of extra time, a golden goal would count as two goals.

You don't have to be Einstein to work out what happened next. Barbados raced to a 2-0 lead before Grenada made it 2-1 with seven minutes remaining. The Bajans were heading out unless they scored a goal; any goal.

Fortunately for them, with three minutes left, they did just that - only not in the right net. Their deliberate own goal made it 2-2 and propelled the game towards extra time.

Now, farcically, Grenada needed to score a goal (at either end) to go through. Cue frantic defending of both penalty areas by Barbados until the final whistle.

Such dubious shenanigans were rewarded, however, when Barbados scored the golden goal - this time in Grenada's net - four minutes into extra time to win the match 3-2 (or 4-2 according to the rules of the tournament) and qualify for the finals.

THE WARRIORS WILL NOT BE DENIED.
