Another title for Carapichaima.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

"Well played. You played a boss game."

The congratulations to the Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive players from Waterloo High School coach and former national striker Leonson Lewis may have well been kudos for their performance in the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League Central Zone as they repeated as zonal champs, courtesy a 4-0 thrashing of their opponents.

In fact, the match was over from as early as the seventh minute when Kevon Wilson beat two Waterloo defenders and goalkeeper Demetruis Edwards before knocking in at close range.

But it was Wilson's 89th minute strike that dazzled even Waterloo fans and sealed the home team's spot in the impending SSFL National "Big Five".

Wilson stood just inside the penalty area as Joel Cox's corner kick came floating overhead and, with his back to a defender, hooked the ball over Edwards and into his far "vee".

The cheers that went up were threefold-for the spectacular goal, as well as the win, and the title.

In between that, Shaquil Holder and Phillip Wickham both found the net, Holder knocking in from close range in the 55th, while Wickham beautifully side-footed Andre Mohammed's right side cross past Edwards five minutes later to beef up Carapichaima's small first half advantage.

Caps' triumph was a much better performance than their 2-1 win against Waterloo in their first encounter, as the defending Central champs looked very assured on the ball and their opponents had time to do little more than defend.

Such a performance would encourage them a great deal in their quest for a national title, which, for all their zonal success, is yet to materialise at the higher level.

Still, Carapichaima can celebrate a hard-earned win and their two remaining league matches are only of academic value, as they now must prepare to challenge for the Big Five.

If they can repeat yesterday's performance, they certainly stand a chance of making their mark on the national stage for the first time.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
