WHAT A GOAL! Sweden 2-3 England (Welbeck, 78 min): This is a quite magnificent finish from Danny Welbeck, one that even Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have been proud of. Theo Walcott, who has made a real difference since coming on, drove into the area on the right. It looked like he was going nowhere, but he managed to clip a cross into the six-yard box, where Welbeck was lurking. Even then, there appeared to be little danger for Sweden, because Welbeck had a defender up his back, was facing away from goal and was on the verge of losing his balance. But somehow he contorted his body into an absurd position, letting the ball run across his body before sticking out his right leg and deftly flicking it beyond Isaksson and into the bottom-left corner with his right heel! A moment of pure genius from Welbeck.

It's good to see how much young players like Theo and Wellbeck bring to the game.  FIFA need to stamp about racial abuse at these events.

Disappointed in Sweden

Ibra could not rely on his teammates today at all....too many bad passes and poor tackles (losing the ball) and England didn't relent.  Every time Ibra touch the ball yuh expect something positive to happen and every time one of the others have the ball, is the opposite effect.  Credit to England, though, they played well.  This time.

Men does hate on the EPL, but yuh gotta admit, it damn exciting.  Forget bout technical quality; the frantic pace is real exciting.  Not really an England selection fan, but good to see Steveie G play two in a row and come through unscathed, as well as to see Carroll score.  Quandry for Hodgson: Carroll or Welbeck to partner Rooney?  Or, does Rooney come off the bench for a 35-40 min run?

All i see is them man working the balls off and Ibra walking around the pitch. Three times he was 1v1 and could not beat his man, ok he made a couple of plays, but for a player of his status he eh help he team at all. People talking about CR body language as captain, Ibra worst. Once again he pull a Copperfield, when needed.

We go agree to disagree....he was working very hard to bring up the ball all from midfield, make one-two passes, take on men....it hard to beat a man 1v1 when he have two men helping him....I didn't see Ibra pouting and preening like metro ALWAYS does.  I don't even think metro celebrated any of Portugal's goals with his teammates, always choosing to cast himself aside like he upset it eh him getting glorified at that moment.....I digress...Ibra tried to take the game by the scruff of the neck but, to me, his teammates (but for 1 or 2 of them, starting with Isaksson) were not up to the task.   :beermug:

I actually thought Ibra had his best game in a Sweden jersey.

He was pongsing off Lescott and Terry with ease, was holding up the play and trying to make things happen. His teammates was not helping at all.. Starting with shitty Elmander. You would think a man with EPL experience could offer alot more than he did.

Elm get a great through ball from Ibra in the second half to run in on and finish, and it look like he either delay or take the wrong angle and allow Glen Johnson to recover. Then Ibra had a venomous bullet that Hart parry and also it is his follow up on the free kick that led to the first Mellberg goal.

Could not ask for much more imo.

It was a good old fashioned European game. I'm sure the purists will hate it, but sometimes you can admire a passing game, but not necessarily get excited. This was exciting! It was also agony if you are an English or Swedish fan! If I could have chosen this result and England losing the lead, then come back and win, I certainly would. Its great character building for the youngsters.

So, a win or draw against Ukraine will put England through? Looks like I chose the wrong week to give up smoking lol

One final point, you notice that 5 black players start for England and the number increased to 6 once Walcott came on? And even when Wellbeck came off, Chamberlain kept the number at 6. Kinda makes you proud to be part of a multi cultural society. (Though I'm sure someone will find something offensive in that comment!)
