2008 World Junior Champs......The stars of tomorrow!!!!!!!
« on: July 07, 2008, 09:32:04 PM »
The games start tomorrow in Poland and from the little I have seen about it, our one true medal hope lies in the hands of 400m runner Zwede Hewitt who come into the games with what I believe is the 4th fastest time in 46.03.

You can find all the information about the meet here...........

This is great news. I hope he continues. Trinidad has not had a real 400m specialist for a long time. Correct me the last was the football player turn track athlete, was it Ian Morris.

We've had specialist. They've just never filled Morris' shoes, Patrick Dalice; Alvin Daniel; Dasilva and Modibo (or whatever the hell his new name is now). There was a Jr. a few years ago, I think Barry was his name. Did well at the World Jr.s may have been 4th.

We have always seemed to underachieve in this event - for decades.

Hopefully Quow will change all of that.

.... Simon Pierre, Damion Barry and the list continues. From since before Barcelona, our 4x400 has been a mismanaged relay, with continuous talent being churned out. Until recently (5-10 years) we had produced talent more consistently in the 400 than the 100.
Success will never take you by surprise.

Morris' record will be there for the next 20 years trust me. The 400 is the hardest event in track and to be honest I have not seen someone step up to do it well.  Too much hard work I guess.  Quow unless he changes his form can't get into the 44s and Stephens is running well but doesn't have 44 low speed.

but ato quow is running well for an athlete not in a ncaa divison 1 program   Had he gotten into  baylor or lsu etc he would have been way ahead,,,,,

That's EXACTLY what i was wondering when i see Kai(finishing last) name alone. Where was Michelle she has run 11.48  this season and yet we don't run her. Although if u remember Michelle did injure herself in the carifta games 200m heats so she might be taking it easy. But her time will come she is just 15/16 so her time will come patience is a virtue lol. I do u recall her running anchor in the relay at the national champs with Fana, Ayanna and they did come first.

Yes Morris played ball but so did Dasilva.

He played for the national youth team around 1987.

Had to be real good to make a TT youth team back then.

neil de silva was a national under 19 defender on a sqaud with ivan sampson, legendre, yorke, sherwood, etc...i believe vb is correct with the year (1987)...he was also part of ah under 16 training sqaud, not sure if he played for the team.
neil was a good relay runner and also on ah individual level, he use to run his heart and soul out, if he had a top notch coach he culd have been more successful.

ian morris use to play ball for ah side in siparia, i think he went sando ettech but i cant recall if he ever played for dem, probably one of the old men on the forum might know.

back in de dey the 4x4 relay had potential to be a serious contender but something always happen to mess tings up..the team of patrickdelice, alvin daniel, neil desilva and ian morris could have easily been in the top 4 in de world.
