Jointpop

When Trinidad and Tobago became the smallest country ever to qualify for the World Cup in 2006, football fever seemed to infect all corners of the Caribbean twin islands. Hence, indigenous indie rockers jointpop naming their third album The January Transfer Window.

The group have actually been going since 1996, and have been through a few line-up shuffles and a year-long break in 2004 along the way. They are revered in their own country but have been virtually ignored overseas, where the T&T music scene tends to be associated solely with soca and steel bands.

jointpop's songs are massively influenced by classic British rock (think the Rolling Stones crossed with calypso and sunshine), so this tour is the perfect opportunity for this country to have its ears educated.

Wed, The Victoria Inn, 12 Midland Place, Derby, 8pm, £4. Tel: 01332 740091. www.jointpop.com
