Tobago Football Association's competitions have come to a screeching halt as match day #3 beckoned. The Tobago arm of the Referees Association has withdrawn the services of its member referees until an amicable settlement to the compensation negotiation is reached. The TFA's brass have bungled the negotiations, and now the season's competition hangs in the balance.

Very early on in the season's opening competition - the Community Cup, there were whispers of an impending strike by the Referees Association. The crisis was announced when referees failed to show-up for yesterday's Premier League's match day 3 fixtures. Having signalled their intention of not officiating at games scheduled during the current women U-17 qualification, no referees showed up at Thursday's Zonal matches. There weren't any U-17 matches scheduled for yesterday, so they were expected to officiate at the scheduled matches.

Neither the TFA nor the TRA has made any official statements regarding the crisis. When they do, you'd hear it here first.

There is some mad people refreeing games in 2bago. Reaal horrible. Need training from qualified people cause those who training them r clesrly not. Theorically, practically and psycologically they need training. Especially in the aspect of sports psycology and psycology of sports arbitrating. It appears that the refrees leave there homes angry and with vendettas against players and it is affecting there performances and the efficient fulfillment of there jobs.

I never heard his name called, but its safe to assume he wasn't. The boy is brilliant! Another Phoenix youngster who goes by the alias "Scooby" was involved.

Scooby could play but he is a little bit lazy. If he works harder he will become a very good player.

The THA Director of Sports, Mr Theophillus Trim has offered to mediate, and will be meeting with representatives from both The TFA and TRA on Sunday. This should pave the way for a speedy resolution to the crisis.

Getting the scores is easy man  ;D

breds ah hear the ref and dem was getting $35 ah game
It is not wages, its just a stipend. It still is the amateur game and the 12 referees combined getting just a bit less than the League winners and 75% more than the runner-up. Its a balancing act. The players aren't paid and are actually paying to play ;D. You've seen the standard of refereeing, what would you give these fellas. On top of that they are all "C" class ... not even good enough to referee in the recently concluded U-15 Concacaf cup.

doc wats d status with the goodwood game. and wats the correct first name of the hercules fella who score...should either be donelle or darrel.
Well pardner that name is what I got from TFA. Were you at the game? Good to see Ashford playing again.

nah i out ah d country.

ashford not fully fit something with bonions i believe, so he really forcing to play. midfield is nothing without him. i know our team coach resign and the coach  was the guy  who was getting our keeper to stay in the post, cause our keeper is very good at playing out. The name of the 1st goal scorer is very similar to that of the keeper , so i was jus trying to verify that.

played the 1st 2 games as subs though, ah unfit and overwieght

Doc,
I doing fine. My son played for a team from No. VA in the national U-18 championships in Arkansas 2 weeks ago. They lost all their games. But he said it was a great experience despite the results. He also played against Deleon's son Nicholas who score the first goal against them. the score was 3-2. He will be attending West Chester state. Tombs coaching there.

Stewart resigns as Goodwood coach

Friday, August 1st 2008

In just two years, Stewart, the son of the deceased Jerry Stewart, one of the top musicians in Tobago, took the Club from the Zonal Conference to the Premier Division in the Tobago Football Association; a feat he admitted was not easy.

He said that having 12 players at any one session was a rare occurrence but he struggled to work with who came and noted that they were able to earn promotion. However, he quickly added that they cannot survive in the Premier Division if they do not commit to training, because the standard there is much higher and they will be going up against more talented and experienced players.

Stewart noted that while there were some talented players in the team their lack of commitment was their downfall.

He said that because most clubs lack proper structure, the head coach's job is more difficult as he becomes the 'chief bottle-washer', having to be coach and manager at the same time, as he was also responsible for ensuring that the ground was ready for play, ensure there was water, balls, uniforms and other administrative duties. He added that most players believe they join a club just to play.

Stewart said that he believes that Frankie Bobb will be the most suitable replacement. He said that he wishes whoever takes over the job and the players the best of luck for the season.

Doc, what's the consensus as regards Harvey as TFA president? Also what in your opinion is needed in Tobago football to return us to the Glory days when Hovell was president. I am assuming that you are old enough to remember Hovell presidency? Is Pargie (Rhodil Clarke) involved in Tobago football in any capacity? Cheers
