Under 16s prepare for Youth Cup.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 16 team has been narrowed down to a 25-man squad as it prepares for the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup which begins in Trinidad next month.
The squad has been in training for the past few months, under the guidance of Anton Corneal as well as Hutson Charles and Shawn Cooper.

Sessions are ongoing at the Ato Boldon Stadium and the team faces the National Under 20s in a training match on Saturday morning at the Couva venue.  Click for Fixtures

Team manager Christopher Gouveia gave  a brief outline:

“This squad has been in training since January 2008. The squad reached 45 players at one time. The current squad of 26 players will be going into a final camp before the tournament from Thursday 24th to Saturday. 26th July at Aksent Villas in San Fernando. On Sat. the team will play a warm-up game against the National U-20 team at 9.30 am.  After the camp the final squad of 20 players will be chosen.

We have a group of talented players but the coaches have been working tirelessly to ensure that they are up to standard to move on to the Concacaf series. We have been training regularly at the Ato Boldon Stadium and recently had sessions in Mayaro as well. The staff continues to look at players because at this time it is never too late to bring a player into the set up once the coaches think he can add value. We expect to have a well prepared team together by the time the CFU tournament begins next month and like we did with the last Under 17 team, we intend to gain favourable results and experience from this tournament.”

The Technical Staff is the same staff that carried the last U-17 team to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Korea, with the addition of Shawn Cooper:

Wow! Impressive. All those kids are actually affiliated with your pro league clubs? Do those clubs have youth teams?

Akeem Grant? I thought that kid was older. (Maybe, I am confusing him with some1 else).

Maybe we should  be aggressively scouting for more foreign based players who are generally (not always) more advanced in strength and technique.

You are confusing him with Akeem Adams who is 16 or 17 and who played a few games for the senior team but is now with the U-20s.

Most clubs have youth teams as a requirement for etry into the Pro League.

Well, looks like Corneal back with the youth teams again. Hopefully TTFF gives him the resources to repeat his success and take this team to a WC, and be better prepared as well. These youths may have more ability than the previous set, we shall see.

While I am glad we preparing well. My question is we have over 200 players in de USA/Canada college system and only one make de side. Come on Corneal.

Malcolm Manswell was training with DC United last year.

We discovered Isaiah Ferguson and Aaron Maund last year, I'm sure that there is many more to be discovered. I am not saying they is a must, but we need to have a camp in the USA also. The US college system is very good and our players got scolarships because they were good to... we lose to many good players in the past...

It is highly unlikely that anyone playing college ball away will be 16 years old , far less that they from Trinidad and playing college ball the age of those guys mostly range from 18 (and you have to be relll good to make a side at 18 unless the side is rell shit) and up to  25+for the least.

Under-17s doing well on British training stint

It has been smooth sailing for the Barbados Under-17 football team on their historic tour of England, with two consecutive victories over English clubs.

Following a week of intense training at the Wrexham and Liverpool clubs, the Barbadian junior footballers defeated Chester Nomada, a local town team, 3-2 on Sunday.

The English-born Louis Moss had a double strike, while Kemar Trotman scored the other goal
for the Bajans, who are being managed by Julie Grant.

Barbados also posted a 3-2 victory over the Wrexham Under-17 team on Tuesday, with Kadeem Latham finding the nets twice and Raheim Sargeant once.

The head of the delegation, Charles Husbands, said the young Barbados footballers have been training at the Liverpool Academy under the tutelage of the Liverpool coaches, were impressed with their speed and skills.

The team are preparing for the upcoming CONCACAF Under-17 Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago next month. (EZS)

Under 17 squad hit by injuries

Image The national under-17 boys football squad has been hit by injury ahead of their departure for the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.
Coach Christopher Dawes said two key players could be missing when the team departs.
The team has been in training for three weeks for the CFU Cup which also serves as a qualifier for next year's Concacaf under-17 championships.
The boys will play the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda as well as the Netherlands Antilles in the early rounds.

Schoolboy Footballers Leave for Norway.
JA Observer

A members of the Alpart/Essex Valley schoolboy football team in St. Elizabeth plants a June Plum in the Alpart fruit orchard, recently. More than 1,000 plum trees were planted. Members of the team left the island on July 21 for Norway to participate in that country's Under 14 football competition.

Members of the Alpart/Essex Valley All Stars football team on Monday (July 21) left for Oslo, Norway, to participate in that country's under-14 football cup competition.

The squad will compete with 1,500 teams from 53 countries including Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia, and return home on August 4.

The boys first entered the competition in 1999, and have been chosen from 15 schools located in South Manchester and South St. Elizabeth. Coach of the team, Andrew Bent says is expecting them to do well. "We have always performed well in our division and the boys are looking forward to taking home a trophy this year," he said.

Principal of Nain Primary and Junior High, Basil Bennett will accompany the team on the trip, and will seek to establish a curriculum on the Norway experience, which he intends to have taught in the participating schools in the competition.

At a send-off reception for the boys where parents, residents of communities in the parishes and Alpart's officials gathered, they were encouraged by Public Relations Manager at Alpart, Lance Neita, to make use of the opportunity. "So far you have demonstrated discipline, and I want to commend you for it, and if you take this to Norway you would have done your country well. Remember that this competition is not only about winning trophies, it is about character building, learning from other cultures and educational development for the participants," Mr. Neita said.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

The team has now been cut down to twenty and they go in to camp tomorrow.
I wish them all the best and I know that they are going to do quite well.
I know the time of the games is weird but those of you that can make the sacrifice to support the team. Please do! Looking forward to see you there! ;)

TTFF moved the games from the stadiumds to "private fields"With the exception of MLS,  Saints and Fatima football fields, all the other fields  technically belong to the government. For instance UWi,  Guaracara abd Tobago.

Good to see confidence from someone close to the team. Very little information on youth football  has been available during the time the Pro-League site was down, so some of us didn't know what was going on. Good luck to the team

Anton has no cover this time around. WiM gone! I am sitiing back and waiting for the excuses and the praise for the valiant efforts from alvin.

Cuba in there too, and only 2 places for CONCACAF qualifying? I'm hoping Anton supplies the youths with all the tools they need to hit their potential. From the little I see some of these youths real sharp, and not just in front and in the mid.

They usually don't pick up the foreign players until the final round of qualifications.  Even though this team has more individual potential than the last one,  I not so sure about their chances. They will be getting pressure from JA, Haiti, Bdos, not to mention Guadeloupe already beat them 3-1.

Watch out for DR, guys. They've been getting stronger and stronger at youth level. BTW, they have been preying on Cuba in the last few years. They either kick the Cubans out or finish ahead of them. Watch out for them.
