Does this mean Chelsea qualify for the CL next year ?

Because Spurs and Gunners still have 6 points to play for !

Unless Spurs could make up a 17 goal margin in the next 2 matches, Chelsea is guaranteed at least 4th

From day one up until now, Lampard has always been a class act.  Hopefully we could win a trophy on Wednesday and he could ride off into the sunset like Drogba.  That first goal left-footer was nice, he ketch meh wit dah one. Well done, Lampard!!  :applause: :applause:

Man U have set an example: you do not just let your most experienced players ride off into the sunset. You don't go from hero to zero overnight. He is currently the 6th highest goalscorer in the Prem this season and is more than capable of making a contribution next season.

I totally agree that he still has something left in him and he should stay. As long as he first can accept that he can't be an everyday starter.  That was something that he was absolutely not willing to accept last year under AVB when he was actually struggling to score but (ironically) seems to be quite happy to accept this season under "rotatin' Rafa" now that he's back to his old self again...this season he has rediscovered his scoring foot again, in great part to doing what I was saying last year that he needed to do, which was, to find his shooting foot again...especially when it comes to what is his greatest asset to the team: his medium-range shooting. (ain't that something. ;)) Ironically, again, (according to the football experts that carried the game today) it's because of his alleged role in the perceived undermining of AVB's attempts to re-shape Chelsea into the "British Barca" that is seeing him to the exit door. If yuh find out sumting at next week's game, leh we know.

against the other European teams that qualified similarly in their respective domestic leagues (2nd, 3rd or 4th place, where applicable, etc).....and other variable qualifying criteria...I thinks.

So after yesterday's unification bout, we are now The Undisputed Champions of Europe until next weekend  :challenge:

Pre-game the atmosphere was mostly mellow (not really a surprise in Amsterdam). The game meant alot more to Benfica fans than Chelsea fans...Benfica were there to try and win their first European trophy in decades, Chelsea were basically there for the party.

At one point it looked as if it was all kicking off in the town center near where me and my pardna were liming. I couldnt see whether it was Chelsea v Benfica or just Chelsea imbeciles fighting one another. Anyway we decided to make a move down the road, just as a squad of Chelsea hard men came steaming in looking for a fight, quickly followed by some MASSIVE dutch police (some of them fellas look like robocop on steroids), followed by a herd of police horses, then even more police. Didn't hear any more about that fiasco, guess nothing came of it (edit - more about it here: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/europa-league-final-chelsea-hooligans-1892194)

Anyway, onto the match. I eh go lie, we were pretty poor yesterday, Benfica were better. We looked tired and seemed to be conserving energy in the first half. David Luiz and Lampard were getting overrun in midfield and Ramires was useless out on the right wing. The only saving grace for us was the Benfica aren't that skillful and just couldn't make good use of their possession. Similar to last year's game at Stamford Bridge, they had a lot of the ball but didn't threaten anywhere near as much as they could have.

Second half we stepped it up a bit and that half was more competitive from a Chelsea perspective. Even so, I wasn't looking forward to extra time - several players were completely bun in the last 10 minutes, Benitez was determined not to sub anybody and as a spectacle the match was still pretty dry. So thank God for Ivanovic  ;D. That ball seemed to hang in the air for ever...we were behind that goal...watched the ball loop high across the six yard box...watched the keeper take a step and then stop as if the ball was going over...but then.... :wavetowel:

As every Chelsea hater has already said, the Europa League doesn't compare to Champions League and its true...for me yesterday's experience could never touch Munich. Amsterdam was fun but Munich was magical. But a trophy is a trophy and it was a great way to end the season  :beermug:

Thorgan Hazard earns Belgium call up
Chelsea loan star Thorgan Hazard on top form for Belgian side Zulte-Waregem
http://www.givemefootball.com/346162-thorgan-hazard-earns-belgium-call-up

Chelsea loan star Thorgan Hazard has been on top form for Belgian side Zulte-Waregem this season as they stand on the cusp of their first ever league title.

Eden Hazard's brother joined Chelsea with slightly less fanfare last summer, and was immediately loaned to Zulte-Waregem.

His performances at the club have earned him a call up to the national team, and he demonstrated just what he can do earlier this week with an awesome performance in their 5-2 victory over Club Brugge.

The younger Hazard pulled the strings, bagging one and setting up two for his side.

And a win over Anderlecht this weekend - the final league fixture of the season - will see them secure their maiden title and Champions League qualification.

But what about Terry - Jose relationship? Didnt Terry help to push him out?
