Soca and Calypso Artists meet and greet fans By Patricia Thangaraj
Hundreds of Barbadians gathered on the ground floor of Cave Shepherd yesterday to meet their favourite artist and get their copy of the CD Feels Nas: Straight from BIM - Volume 2 signed.
The biggest attraction was Machel Montano, who was a hit among the old and young. He said that the Crop Over season was going well, but was very hectic, having just come off from performing at the Wadadah Fete at Kensington Oval the previous night. Montano, who is in Barbados for two and a half weeks as opposed to the usual two days,
said that he choose to come here instead of going to Toronto for Caribana because he has been going there for the last 10 to 15 years and he wanted to do something different this year. He also wanted to spend more time with his regional fans, who have expressed their appreciation for his music, especially his songs - Tempa Wine, Feels Nas, Push Bumper and Wining Season.
Local artist Tarah, who was also there for the signing, said that the season went well for her, both locally and internationally, where her songs All Nite, Push Back and This is Fete written by Anderson Blood Armstrong are doing well in Toronto, Vancouver and New York.
She has also found success with her music in Trinidad and will head off to this nation after the season is over to do some radio and television interviews with Synergy Television. She stated that when that stations manager, Wendell Naipaul, was visiting Barbados, he fell in love with her song Push Back and invited her to come to Trinidad to be featured on their station Timmy, another local artist who was at Cave Shepherd signing CDs, also said that the season was going well for him, especially with his song Bucket.
