Are we the First ?
« on: August 17, 2008, 04:51:55 AM »

Someone made a comment that we are the first EVER country to win  all 3 gold, silver and bronze medals at the 100m Olympic finals.

Now I doubt whether that is true on an international scale, but i'm pretty sure it's true on a Caribbean/West Indian scale.

Anyone can verify that ?

By process of elimination, on a Caribbean scale it has to be true, since that was Jamaica's first gold, and Ato completed our gold/silver/bronze collection back in Sydney.

USA has also won all 3 medals tho, well b4 us. Dunno if any1 else has done it. Probably.

As far as the international scene goes Linford Christie by himself have a gold and a silver.  McDonald Bailey have a bronze running for the UK.

edit: according to this wikipedia page Germany also do it.

Didn't Don quarry won an olympic Gold medal in montreal 1976 for 200m.  True trini or maxg or coop might know better, since i was only a boy back in 76.

Jamaica (before Beijing) has won gold at 800m, 400m, 200m and 4x400m for men. We won 400mH, 200m 4x100m golds for Women.

The only "new" golds in Beijing so far are the 100m for M and W.

Edit: 800m Men is silver, not gold.

Willi here is some help
Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads.
