Jason Scotland delivered a stark warning to Championship defences, declaring ''the best is yet to come''.
Scotland bagged the plaudits by netting Swansea City's winner at Plymouth Argyle following a neat one-two with Darren Pratley.
The Trinidad & Tobago striker's 43rd-minute goal proved the difference at Home Park as he got off the mark in the Championship.
Swansea's top scorer last season notched 29 goals as they ran away with the League One title, but Scotland revealed he is still ''one or two'' games away from being fully fit.
He has also been putting in tough sessions in the gym as he looks to become a leaner, fitter, stronger player.
That will be music to the ears of Swansea supporters as they look for a repeat of the 2007-08 scoring feats from their main frontman.
''The training programme is very tough and I've been in the gym trying to lose weight and to be quicker and stronger,'' said Scotland.
''It's important with the way we play that I need to be strong. I am up there on my own at times and I have to hold it up and wait for support.
''I am trying to get very fit. I want to be fit not only in the attacking aspect. I want to push myself that little bit more.
''I am probably one or two games away from full fitness. I am feeling good now and I know I'm getting there.
''But with another 90 or 180 minutes under my belt I should be fully fit.''
Scotland was a constant thorn in the Plymouth defence, not only for his strength but also his work-rate.
He often chased down home keeper Graham Stack along with winning back lost causes.
A minority of supporters felt Scotland's work-rate was not what it should have been last season — he has certainly answered those critics.
The fans have returned the favour, and were in fine voice as they sang Scotland's name in Devon on Saturday.
And now he's off the mark, Scotland is looking to continue his scoring feats. So what about another 29-goal campaign?
''I'd settle for that,'' Scotland joked. ''We will have to wait and see. Obviously I'd love to score that many this season but it's a big test in the Championship.
''You have to be at your very best every week in this division.
''Last season was good for me. I was at my best at some points last season, but maybe I'd have a good game and not score, or play badly and nick a goal.
''It's about being consistent and that's the challenge for me. We have a lot of competition here, as we did last season, but everyone is desperate to play.''
