Keane recalls Yorke via text message.
« on: September 08, 2008, 09:30:52 PM »
'Warriors’ aim to bounce back in Windy City.
...Keane recalls Yorke via text message.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Trinidad and Tobago’s national footballers had their first training session under rainy conditions at the Toyota Park Training Pitch yesterday and spirits were on the rise again as they look ahead to tomorrow’s 2010 World Cup Qualifying match against United States at Toyota Park.

T&T will have the services of defender Makan Hislop following his one match suspension but influential midfielder Dwight Yorke who captained the team in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Guatemala did not travel to Chicago and will not play on Wednesday.

Yorke met with Maturana on Saturday night after the match and indicated that he wanted to avoid any conflict with his team manager at Sunderland Roy Keane, saying that it was best if injury be given as the reason.

However, while admitting he held a high amount of respect for Sunderland manager Keane, Yorke did inform the T&T management team that the Irish man had ordered his recall via a text message. It is understood that Keane wanted the player back in Sunderland before Thursday in order for selection for Saturdays Premiership clash away to Wigan Athletic.

Keane however made no request for Carlos Edwards’ early return. Edwards travels back to Sunderland on Thursday following the encounter with the USA a night earlier.

Defender Avery John is also out on a double yellow cards suspension. Making a return is Aklie Edwards from a four-match suspension to fill that void in the left back position.

“We will play our game as we intend to, that is to be positive and attempt to get the three points. No game is easy and circumstances change but you have to be ready and we will do our best to be ready for Wednesday,” Maturana said.

“Nothing is a guarantee in football but I believe that we can achieve anything once we go about it in the right way. This we will try to do especially after a disappointing end with Guatemala on Saturday,” he added.

T&T midfielder Keon Daniel, scorer of three goals in T&T’s past two qualifying matches, said the “Soca Warriors” are not counting out the possibility of leaving Chicago with something to show on the points table.

“I think we were disappointed with the way the game ended on Saturday but the spirit isn’t down in the camp. As a matter of fact the guys are all feeling good and I feel we can pull something off on Wednesday. It’s going to be hard but the gap is closing and Wednesday will be a nice way to show it” Daniel said.

“My performance so far has been down to hard work and belief and I think I can say the same for the rest of the team. I don’t usually take shots from the outside but the coach has had me doing it a lot in training and I’m starting to believe more in myself. I got the ball, looked up and saw the chance and I went for it,” he explained.

Tomorrow’s game will be televised live on ESPN and former T&T goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is part of the commentary team. The match will also be broadcasted live on Radio 105FM and I95.5FM.

T&T Squad in Chicago:

Marvin Phillip (W Connection), Jan Michael Williams (Ferencvaros), Keyeno Thomas (Joe Public), Julius James (Toronto FC), Dennis Lawrence (Swansea City), Carlos Edwards (Sunderland), Cyd Gray (Clico San Juan Jabloteh), Keon Daniel (United Petrotrin), Andre Toussaint (W Connection), Jason Scotland (Swansea), Cornell Glen (unattached), Anthony Wolfe (North East Stars), Densill Theobald (Caledonia AIA), Clyde Leon (W Connection), Osei Telesford (Puerto Rico Islanders), Kerry Baptiste (Joe Public), Akeil Guevera (North East Stars), Gyasi Joyce (Caledonia AIA), Makan Hislop (United Petrotrin), Aklie Edwards (Defence Force).

Due to the heavy afternoon into evening rainfall, T&T's training session at the Toyota Park Training Pitch was called off and the team used an indoor hall at the Chicago Marriott Hotel. They work out for 90 minutes. T&T will train at the official match venue, Toyota Park, on Tuesday night.

I am left with the impression that the writer is a victim of forum propaganda.  :) Anyway, I'm seeing smiling faces in the pic. What would be more frustrating? Having to source an alternative venue and then try to figure our way there ... or, use de ballroom (it was 90 minutes ppl!) and call that a done deal.

Look, ah hate to say it ... AGAIN ... but poor journalism. Read de caption and then read the first sentence. Compare and contrast.

On top ah dat, where's de beef? Instead of having us speculate on de session, oh gorm fill in de blanks on how dey come to use de ballroom as opposed to whatever else ... maybe even tell us what de US were doing or maybe a lil bit on what dey did. Since is a sensational beat de Guardian on wid de text message, how about more meat on that?

Great scouting and arrangement ofr use of facilities planning by management.  These are the sorts of things that cause Beenie to hire a man to deal with those sorts of arrangements.  No contingency planning at all.

I have to agree... the hotel thing isn't nearly as outrageous or unprecedented as men making it seem, NFL teams have done similarly, holding 'walk-throughs' in hotel ballrooms in the past.  One of the reasons given being a desire to not deal with additional disruptions to the schedule with the changes to logistics etc... when they could simply conduct the workout right there on the premises.

Besides, I'm sure the rain didn't allow them that much notice that they could then scrounge around for an alternative indoor facility... school is back in session and most facilities would be in use this early in the fall semester.

Leh meh say this, like we come from thee bush or something? If you running ah team you should have checked thee weather channel or geh on line and type “weather forecast”. Then you would know how to plan, call up a venue to have ah proper practice session. SO all that excuse crap… go so wit that. Our management is terrible. Like we still living in the dinosaur time ah wah.  Them practicing in ah hotel...It's embarrassing. People looking at we like them in ah mess.

One thing is for sure is that this message board is a haven for sideline gum bumpers.  Allyuh must learn to rest yuh throat (fingers) until yuh have all the info.  How allyuh know that they didn't contact every high school gym in the area and couldn't get a time slot?  What if all the suitable facilities in the area were closed due to the weather conditions? How allyuh know that they had a place secured but decided for safety reasons that they should just stay put.....  What about if the rain and wind were such that it was advisable not to drive?  If they decided to drive 45 mins to a gym and got in a bus accident (and God forbid there were any casualities), ah bet allyuh woulda be complaining that they so dotish to try to venture out in the bad weather.... Why allyuh doh just hush and stop bad-talking everything for a change.  If the ballroom was big enough to get a light workout in to get the heart rate up and keep the muscles loose then so be it- at least they were resourceful and didn't sit just sit around, eat, drink and watch TV....My only concern is not the embarassment factor, but that the carpet surface could have led to injury depending on the type of drills and intensity, but it doesn't seem that that happened....Now if someone could go and prove that the mgmt staff didn't do their best in this instance, then go ahead let the cussin' begin  :D

Alyuh like to buss up alyuh mouth like when alyuh talk alyuh word is law. Afetr playing a tough game and then getting on a flight, you have to be a damn arse to let your team practice in a ballroom. What freaking drills you could run in a ballroom for a national team? They could have done better. At least go to Bally's and let the guys loosen up on a thread mill or bike or something. You condemming ppl for talking mess and you posting about "if they get in a bus accident" you ever see shite so. They choose to train there and that's up to them, but don't try to tell men they taking things wrong.

If there is a sudden contingency and the two teams need to scramble up a facility for training... who do you think would be the likelier candidate to secure it?

Bottom line is that men in here speculating about a bunch of stuff that nobody knows about... if you know better then by all means enlighten us.  As Kicker and I are attempting to show, we don't know what efforts were undertaken and what other frustrations met their plans.  Men aren't even really asking questions... the first instinct is to cry down and condemn them for lack of preparation.  How many teams when they travel abroad schedule a site for training... and then schedules a contingency site because of weather, unavailability or whatever?

The question isn't whether it was possible for them to schedule a contingency site... the question is more "was it reasonable for them to NOT schedule a contingency site".  I think based on precedent it's entirely reasonable that they felt the initial plans were sound.

I never "try to tell men they taking things wrong" whatever that means.... I just said that people are quick to talk without the facts.

The U.S. trained at Toyota Park that Monday, and for some reason we couldn't.  I don't know why, but there might be a good reason.  And for some reason they chose to work out in Hotel ballroom....again I don't know why, but again there might be a good reason...that is what I said.  I eh ashamed to say I don't know....I prefer to speculate as to why (which is what I did) and possibly give the benefit of the doubt before I bad-talk mgmt without a factual basis.....that's all... so I dunno what your problem is.

And as for that "alyuh like to buss up alyuh mouth like when alyuh talk word is law"... once again whatever.... if you could talk, then I could talk....same difference.... whatever you intepret as law is your business.

OK, so your point is we dont know the scene, dont know the preparations undertaken. So its either the TTFF prepared sufficiently or they didnt, then.
