When I started watching football in the mid 90s, ESPN used to bring the Brasilerao regular. Carioca was a joy to behold. Real deft touch, vision, and could score too. Its a real shame he never play in a World Cup.

Marcelinho Carioca is a nice call, but Brazil had better players who never make a World Cup imo. Big big ballers like Elber, Marcelinho : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcelinho , Evair & Jardel to name a few

The list should be restricted to players who were never named to a WC finals roster or men like Weah who played for countries that did not make the WC ever or men like Leonson whose country made the WC but not when they were involved with the game or kicking any kinda brand.

Ah find if a man sitting on de bench that's testimony to something as well as tactical considerations. Whole different category (thankfully Latas is excluded from this category, albeit marginally)

Djalminha

Leonson Lewis

Marco Simone

Andrei Kanchelskis (boycotted)

Alen Boksic (injury)

Boksic was at WC 1990 with Yugoslavia ... but your point is well-taken ... just musing about fine-tuning the parameters.
