Calyton Ince new tactic ...goalkeeper in the wall
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:53:20 AM »
On Scoccer Am this weekend (3 hour football show on Saturday mornings) they highlighted Clayton Ince's new techinique.
In the Bristol Rovers vs Walsall game Bristol got a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Clayton Ince went into the wall. The ball actually went past the wall and was cleared off the line by a defender. so the programme rang him up to ask why he did that, so he said that as he could use his arms he would be more effective in the wall !
Certainly a different take on things but I dont think it will catch on

That is a thinking man there!  It may not work in every situation but depending on the angle of the free kick, there might be an increased chance of the ball coming his way.  Innovative but can't always be used.
Never, never, ever give up! Go T&T Warriors!

Slightly different but reminds me of something from yesterday ...

There was a problem with the linesman being consistent in picking up the offside call. Eventually, the attacking team received a free kick about 7-10 yards within their half, more or less a few feet inside the touchline. To ensure not having to deal with the officiating assness (and somewhat in protest), the defending team (everybody but the keeper!) was instructed to line up on the half.

The defending keeper was instructed to step high in anticipation of the free kick. What followed was obviously going to be a race to goal/the ball.

The attacking team still had to assume a defensive posture so despite wanting to throw as many players as possible into the comess on the halfline, they were outnumbered and outjustled. The keeper got to the ball first and whacked it into the stands.

This is not a new tactic, though for a direct free kick it seems strange. Goalkeepers usually get in front the wall when their are indirect freekicks inside the box.

on indirect free kicks, this is a very good ploy, because for the gk 2 be beaten, ball has to go over him (wall coveres sides)...and on the touch, gk can also charge to close down the ball....
