Final score JAmaica 3-2 El Salvador. Jamaica gave up a 90th minute goal after being up 3-1.
up next for Jamaica's senior squad is a trip to south Korea to face the hosts in the summer.

Under-20s....well, they might as well forfeit their next game and save the fans further embrassment. losing 2-0 to Guatemala at any level is insult to Jamaica. Jamaica not ready yet.

Jamaica pair eye late deal

André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter

Jamaican pair Lamar Nelson and Nicholy Finlayson are reportedly on the verge of signing a last-minute deal with Norwegian First Division outfit Strommen IF, this according to their agent, Pro Goal Sports' Romel Wallen.

Wallen confirmed that the two have been on trial in Norway for a week and have both impressed the club's coaching staff. A deal is reportedly being ironed out by all parties, but with the Nowegian transfer window closing today at 5 p.m. (midnight Jamaica time), it is left to be seen whether or not a deal can be secured for the two in time.

immediate transfer

In the event that an agreement is not reached before the transfer deadline, the deal will be made in the summer instead, but Wallen is hopeful that all the details can be worked out in time to facilitate an immediate transfer.

Finlayson is currently signed to Digicel Premier League (DPL) outfit Reno and has already represented the national senior team, while Nelson represents Harbour View, also at the DPL level.

Nelson, who is regarded by some to be one of the brightest young talents in Jamaica, was a surprise omission from the national Under-20 team now in Guatemala for the CONCACAF Under-20 Championships.

Wallen said that he was happy for both players and was hopeful that the deadline would be met.

"I'm happy for a player like Nico (Finlayson), because he is the type of player who would fit in well in Europe," Wallen said.

natural footballer

"For Lamar, the boy is just a natural footballer, he can do a job for you anywhere on the field. They've both done well, so we'll see what happens this week."

Strommen IF is also home to Jamaican goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr, who recently signed a deal with the club that finished last season in seventh place.

Twins invited to train with U-17s at Valencia Camp.
jamaicaobserver.com.

Trinidad and Tobago-based twin brothers Ruhmayne and Rushayne Marrett have been included in Jamaica's Under-17 preparation camp for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Mexico.

Twenty nine (29) players have been invited to participate in the five-day Valencia Camp which commenced on Saturday through to Wednesday at Sabina Park which will have five Spanish coaches working with them. All training sessions will be between 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm each day.

Midfielders Ruhmayne and Rushayne Marrett are presently attending St Mary's College in Trinidad and Tobago and will have the opportunity to showcase their talents to Wendell Downswell and his coaching staff over the next few days.

Meanwhile, five local based players in Iishmale Currie (Garvey Maceo High), Jamauh Cunningham (Lennon High), Anthony Walker (Ruseas High), Jason Wint (Glenmuir High) and Courtney Henry (Kingsway High) have been re-invited following impressive showings following two trials held on April 1-3 and April 8-10.

The technical staff continues to narrow the list of players as it searches for its final 21-man squad for the World Cup. The 29 invited for the Valencia Camp are part of a pool of 35.

There are also six additional overseas-based players in the reckoning, but won't be part of the five-day camp. They are Quante Smith, King Kaya Beckford, Jevani Brown, Shawn Lawson, Javia Robert and Jordan Buck.

The technical staff will get the opportunity to assess all players individually and in match situations when they participate in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Under-20 League.

They are scheduled to play their first game today 7:00 pm against Boys' Town at the Drewsland Stadium, the home of Waterhouse FC.

As part of it sweeping preparatory work, the technical staff led by Wendell Downswell has formulated a plan that includes weekly training camps; participation in the KSAFA Under-20 League; psychological preparation; social activities and assistance in examination preparation through tutors.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) continues to seek funding for the international camp in Spain which will cost US$70,000. The JFF hopes to have the young Reggae Boyz in Valencia by the end of April or early May, for a two-and-half-week training camp, which is expected to go a far way in building the confidence of the players.

Squad -- Patrick Palmer, Omar Holness, Kemo Wallace, Jason Wright (Wolmer's Boys); Andre Lewis, Romario Jones, Oshane Jenkins, Nico Campbell, Cardell Benbow (St George's College); Ojai Bedward, Zhelano Barnes (Excelsior High); Kevaughn Atkinson (Calabar High); Courtney Henry (Kingsway High); Junior Flemmings (Jamaica College); Romario Williams (Kingston College); Alvas Powell (Paul Bogle High); Odean Clarke, Ramone Brown (Muschett High); Troy Moo-Penn (Manchester High); Jason Wint, Noel Johnson (Glenmuir High); Ishmale Currie (Garvey Maceo); Jamauh Cunningham (Lennon High); Anthony Walker, Richard Trench (Rusea's High); Melvin Blair (Manning High) and Romario West (Jose Marti High).
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

4 Brazilians to join Jamaica coaching staff - JFF
« Reply #2619 on: May 13, 2011, 03:47:38 AM »
JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) boss Captain Horace Burrell has hired four Brazilian coaches to work with the national programme.

The head of local football yesterday announced Professor Walter Gama as the new Technical Director of the national football programme, with sweeping responsibility for the wholesale development of the nation's game. The Brazilian will bring with him son Luciano, Professor Alfredo Montesso and Joao Brigatti, who will all be assigned various portfolios within the technical structure.

Montesso will be senior head coach, Theodore Whitmore's assistant and also head the Under-23 Olympic team.

The younger Gama who, with his father, recently spearheaded the unsuccessful campaign of the Jamaica's Under-20 to qualify for that age-group World Cup, has been assigned head coach of that youth team, to be assisted by Andrew Edwards.

Brigatti, who also worked with the Under-20s in a three-week camp in Brazil and consequently, the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup qualifying tournament in Guatemala recently, will join Warren Barrett and Clive Wedderburn as goalkeeper coaches.

Wendell Downswell will remain at the helm of the World Cup-bound Under-17s, with his deputy being Omar Edwards, while Vin Blaine stays the head coach of the Women's Programme, to be assisted by Xavier Gilbert and Merron Gordon.

Andrew Price keeps his job as Technical Director of the beach football programme.

All of the Brazilians have worked with the national programme in the past.

Burrell, in making the announcement at the JFF headquarters yesterday, said the cash-strapped Federation was able to secure the services of the four "highly qualified" Brazilians for a bargain package of US$50,000 (J$4.2 million) per month.

"They understood our plight as they know that we're not a wealthy nation, and with negotiation, they consented to come on board with a basic salary package," said the JFF president.

"Respect is due to these Brazilians and we want to say thanks... I know it's their desire to come back to Jamaica and that has made it so easy for them to accept the package we negotiated with them," Burrell said.

With the JFF struggling to make ends meet, Burrell and his team stepped into the deep by engaging the services of the overseas coaches on three-year contracts without identifying the money to cover the contract period.

He said he could only guarantee the salaries for six months at this point, and the funds will be re-directed from a US$300,000 (J$25 million) bonus that FIFA paid to each of its 208 member associations.

"We guarantee their salaries for at least six months at this point, but we are close to tying up deals with two corporate sponsors and we are confident that cash will start to flow in," Burrell told the Observer.

In addition to their coaching expertise, the Brazilians will, as part of the agreement, lecture at the JFF/UTech Coaching School.

"They will bring international coaching expertise and will contribute to our overall coaching education programme... and they will also assist us in developing our own football philosophy," explained chairman of the JFF Technical and Development Committee, Howard McIntosh.

Meanwhile, senior Reggae Boyz head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore said he welcomes the immersion of the Brazilians "as they can only spell good for Jamaica's football".

"It was my decision to get Professor Montesso... I went to Brazil earlier this year and spoke to him of possibly coming back to Jamaica and he was interested.

"I worked with Professor Montesso as a player and coach when he assisted Rene Simoes and he's quite knowledgeable at the game and I am convinced that he can bring tremendous help to our football development," said the former Jamaica captain and two-goal hero at the France World Cup in 1998.

The Brazilians, except Montesso, are due to arrive in Jamaica next week

Everton striker Jermaine Beckford is one of several international players being eyed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in its efforts to widen the pool of players for the national senior programme.

West Ham prodigy Zavon Hines and Birmingham City product Luke Hubbard are also among the players being scouted and approached by JFF officials as the federation stretches its tentacles beyond the island's shores in a continued effort to secure more talent ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign later this year.

Beckford, 27, has scored seven goals in his first season with Everton after making a big switch last summer from Leeds United, for which he had scored a famous FA Cup Third Round goal that knocked Manchester United out of the competition in the 2009-2010 season.

According to sources close to the discussions, Beckford is said to be seriously considering the idea but will not be able to make a commitment to the Jamaican programme until later this year due to family reasons.

Hines, 22, another attacking player who was actually born in Jamaica but has represented England at the Under-21 level, is expected to decide on his future one way or the other in a matter of days, while Hubbard, a midfielder who actually plays in the Birmingham City reserve team, has already filed his citizenship application and should figure for the Reggae Boyz soon.

Nathan Smith, a 24-year-old left back with English League One team Yeovil Town, has also committed fully to the programme and has filed his citizenship application with local authorities.

The situation is slightly different with German-born Daniel Gordon, who represents Rot-Wei§ Oberhausen in Bundesliga 2. Twenty-six year-old Gordon, who has represented top-flight German clubs VfL Bochum II and Borussia Dortmund, is said to be extremely excited by the offer but is looking to sort out his club situation this summer before making a commitment as he is currently a free agent.

Another player who was reportedly contacted but cannot make a commitment at this point despite being interested is Reading FC's Jobi McNuff, who has a surgery scheduled for this summer.

JFF general secretary Horace Reid confirmed that discussions were under way with several players and underlined the importance of each player showing a level of commitment to the programme.

"A number of players have expressed an interest in representing Jamaica and we have also reached out to some. In most instances it's very preliminary and I'm not sure if I can confirm any names at this point but, yes, we are looking, we have been recruiting and the scouting process in ongoing," said Reid. "Except for Humphrey, nothing is concrete at this point."

"The players who do come here must show a level of commitment and professionalism; well, you expect a certain level of professionalism from the European players to begin with but more so, we will be looking for those who are truly committed to the country and that is why the recruiting process is so important," Reid added.

Noted UK-based player-agent Romel Wallen, who is close to a number of the players involved, gave an insight on the situation.

"Jermaine Beckford would like to be considered in the near future. Same for Jobi Mcnuff and Daniel Gordon. For various reasons, these players are unable to commit to playing this summer," said Wallen, who represents Pro-Goals Sports Management.

Good 4 u guys,why change a successful formula.

What successful formula? A football team is only as good as its bench...players get injured, suspended,  lose form, retire etc...any good coach will tell you that you need a deep squad of players if are going to challenge the likes of Mexico and the USA for a world cup spot. These new invitees will be incorporated into the squad over time...with the exception of  Chris Humphries of Motherwel who will be a part of the training squad in preperation for the Gold Cup next month..Beckford and others are being targeted for the world cup qualifiers next year, and will be incorporated into the squad over the next 12 months.

I like the direction the JFF is taking...while Whitmore has done a decent job as head coach over the past couple years, I think the JFF has done the correct thing by surrounding him with a Brazilian TD and giving him a Brazilian assistant coach and goal-keeper coach.

My only hope here is that T&T top their group in the next round to advance to the semi-final round in 2012 and continue the great Caribbean rivalry by getting the draw to Jamaica's group. ;D :praying:
