Sealy hoping to make use of new chance in DCC series.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).United States-based striker Scott Sealy is hoping to maximize the opportunity to claim a full time place in the National team presented to him with the call up by Francisco Maturana for the Digicel Caribbean Championships (DCC) Stage Two starting on Wednesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
Sealy trained under Maturana for the first time this weekend and is hoping to get some playing time in Wednesday’s opener against Antigua/Barbuda. The other strikers also involved include Cornell Glen, Andre Toussaint, Devon Jorsling, Lester Peltier and Jamal Gay.
“It’s always good to get called to the national team. The chance to represent your country is the best feeling an athlete can have. I’m looking forward to familiarizing myself with these guys because it’s been a while since I’ve been involved,” Sealy told TTFF Media on Monday.
“It’s my first time under this new management and as such it’s a new challenge for me. Most times I’ve received the call before it’s always been with the majority of overseas pros and for one reason or the other the European-based guys always get the nod over me. So at this time I’m looking to relax and play as much as I can. I want to do my best and hopefully things will work out for me and the team.
“We are looking to win all the matches. We don’t intend to take any of the teams for granted at this level,” he added. Having spent four seasons in the American MLS with just under one hundred appearances and twenty eight goals to his name, Sealy intends to show the benefits of his time in the MLS.
“Every year you learn something more and that’s how I tend to look at it as professional footballer. Every year I learn something new that can help develop my game. Hopefully this time around things can work out and I can bring something different to the table and help the team be successful.”
Sealy’s contract with the MLS runs out in December but he has already been offered a new deal by current club San Jose Earthquakes. However, he wants to explore options in Europe.
“My contract is up in December and it’s no secret that I will like to explore options in Europe . After these games I will sit down with my agent and discuss some of the possibilities. The MLS is still a possibility too because San Jose have offered me a good contract but at this stage of my career I want to experience something different. This is not knock against the MLS because I believe it’s a League that is continuing to grow but I’ve had my sights on playing in Europe and if that opportunity pops up then I will take it,” Sealy concluded.
The T&T Team trained at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Monday and will have a final session there on Tuesday. St Kitt’s Nevis will face Guyana in the first game on Wednesday from 5pm with T&T taking on Antigua/Barbuda from 7pm.
The Group H action will be launched at 2pm on Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza with representatives of the various teams along with CONCACAF President Jack Warner in attendance.
