Romain nets seven as San Juan wins 13-0.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Jonathan Romain scored a career best seven goals to lead San Juan Senior Comprehensive to a resounding 13-0 win over St George’s College in the BG T&T East Zone Secondary Schools Football League Championship Division.
In addition to Romain, who netted four times by the end of the first-half at his Bourg Mulatresse Ground, San Juan, Kadeem Gibbs added a double while Anthony Guppy, Elijah Manners, Berhane Beckles and Dwayne Gilbert added one each.
It was the third straight win for San Juan to lead the zone with maximum nine points, two ahead of second placed EL Dorado Senior Comprehensive.
The “Blue Thunder” of El Dorado shutout Hillview College 2-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
St Augustine Senior Comprehensive, national and East Zone league title-holders got its first win of the season, 4-0 over Malabar Composite at St Augustine Ground led by a double from Jessie Davis.
In the north, Makesi Lewis scored a first-half double as Fatima College strengthened its hold at the top of the zone with a comfortable 3-0 win over St Mary’s College at Fatima ground. National Under-15 striker Chad De Freitas got the third goal for Fatima mid-way through the second-half to seal the win and push his team to nine points.
Queen’s Royal College (six points) whipped cellar-placed Tranquillity 3-1 at QRC Ground.
Keshawn Worrell opened the scoring for the Royalians in the eighth minute while Damian Rostant added a second goal in the 22nd minute.
Chiki Taylor-Phillip netted QRC’s third goal in the 56th minute while Tacuma Jones netted in the 80th minute for the losers. At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Malick got a first-half strike to pull off a shock win over defending zonal league and Inter-Col champions Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive, its second straight defeat.
St Mary's beaten 3-0.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

Fatima College turned back old rivals St Mary's College 3-0 in their 2005 BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League North Zone clash at Fatima's Mucurapo Road ground to maintain their unbeaten run after three matches.
Fatima also put some distance between themselves and defending champions Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive thanks to Malick Senior Comprehensive, who defeated 'Compre' 1-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium to leave them on three points from as many games. And QRC are alone in second spot after a 3-1 win over Tranquility gave them their second win in two matches.
Fatima had two goals from Makesi Lewis in the first half, and a Chad De Freitas strike early after the restart to cruise to a victory over the 'Saints'. With the home team in full control of the midfield, St Mary's opted for flank play, distributing up the left and crossing into the middle, which proved largely ineffective.
Fatima went ahead after 22 minutes through Lewis, who collected the ball down the centre of the field, and ran past the onrushing St Mary's 'keeper Michael Amoroso before placing in an open net. And three minutes later he doubled the advantage, running onto a long ball and heading over the advancing Amoroso for a 2-0 score, which remained to the interval.
In the second period St Mary's had barely settled into the game when De Freitas ran onto a pass just to the left of the 18-metre box, and held off a defender until he could make enough room to slot to Amoroso's left.
In the 55th minute of the match, Fatima winger Zeron Forte was sent off after successive strong tackles in the second period, his second yellow card coming after he took down Veer Lakhan-Joseph.
St Mary's just could not find space in the Fatima defence but did have a great chance in the 89th minute. Qian Grovesnor found himself free on the right, and his shot forced a fine save out of the largely untroubled Adrian Foncette in Fatima's goal. But the match ended 3-0 in Fatima's favour.

San Juan Secondary stayed unbeaten in the East Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) when they trampled St George's College 13-0 at their Bourg Mulatresse ground yesterday.
The current zonal leaders are on nine points and reached there thanks to a remarkable seven-goal effort from striker Jonathan Romain. Kadeem Gibbs scored two while there was one item each from captain Elijah Manners, Anthony Guppy, Dwayne Roberts and Berhane Beckles.
Defending zonal champs St Augustine, smarting from a surprise 3-2 loss to Hillview College over the weekend, bounced back with a 4-0 trouncing of league newcomers Malabar Composite at Warren Street.
And El Dorado Senior Compreh-ensive got the better of Hillview 2-0 to stay in second spot on seven points.
Matthew Bartho-lomew scored a double in the 80th and 85th minutes to give St Benedict's a 2-0 win over Moruga as action in the South Zone of the SSFL continued at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, yesterday.
Benedict's, Vessigny and defending champions Naparima are all on five points. However, Naparima are in first spot since they have scored more goals than the other two.
Yesterday, after 79 minutes of football and with the game seemingly headed for a draw, Bartholomew found himself in a good position, just six metres out, capitalising on a defensive blunder to blast past Moruga keeper Kenton Duval.
Five minutes later, Benedict's went two goals up after one of their strikers was brought down in the area and a penalty was awarded. Bartho-lomew stepped up to slot his right-footer to the low left hand corner of Duval's net. Up at Princes Town, the hosts and defending zonal champions Naparima battled to a 1-1 draw, while as guests, Vessigny played to a goalless draw with Mayaro.

New chairman for Tobago SSFL.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

In a quick move to salvage the Tobago Zone of the BG Secondary Schools Football League, a new four-member committee to be headed by Allan James was appointed yesterday after a three-hour meeting at the Tobago-arm of the Ministry of Education, yesterday.
The meeting was headed by Ewing Davis, president of the SSFL and included Azaad Mohammed-Khan, general secretary, Anthony Creed (first vice-president), William Wallace (second) vice-president), Lawrence Seepersad (assistant general secretary.
Heading the list of officials from the Tobago zone was out-going chairperson Pearl Almond-George, and assistant, Handell Dillon.
The committee was appointed to address problems in the zone which failed to kick off on Tuesday.
Apart from Scarborough Secondary, none of the other four teams had registered for the competition.
Following the meeting, James of Scarborough Secondary, was appointed interim chairman.
He will have as his assistant Neil Alleyne of Roxborough Composite while Kwesi Des Vignes of Goodwood High School will serve as secretary and Kevin Baptiste as assistant.
The four-member committee will now have a month before giving notice to all interested parties with regards to the holding of an annual general meeting to elect new officials to serve the Zone.
The Zone will now start next Friday or Saturday and will comprise only defending champions, Scarborough Secondary, Roxborough Composite, Bishop’s High and Signal Hill Senior Comprehensive.
Elizabeth’s College will not be competing. The interim Tobago committee was also instructed to implement a Senior Division in the Tobago Zone whereby schools will now be demoted and promoted from next year, a first in the sister-isle.
Pres Chaguanas tackle arch-rivals.
By: Forbes Persaud (Express).

Perennial champions Presentation College Chaguanas will go into action in the Central Zone of the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League as the 2005 season gets underway at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva today.
But as Pres bid to start the season on a winning note they will have a tough battle on their hands when they oppose their arch-rivals Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive in today's clash. According to longstanding Pres head coach, Glenford Thomas, Carapichaima have always been their toughest opponents and he expects it to be no different as they aim to register a beaver-trick of wins in the Central Zone.
To compound matters, Thomas believes that with former Strike Squad coach Everard "Gally" Cummings at the helm of Carp's technical team, it is not going to be easy sailing for Pres. "Carapichaima have always been our major opposition and this year we again see them as our biggest threat. And the fact that they have 'Gally' with them this year we expect to have a tough time against them," stated Thomas.
But Thomas pointed out that his team have been in training since early July and will give a very good account of themselves.
He added that while he has lost some of his top players from last season there are some key members of his squad who he believes will steer his team to victory.
Marvin Manswell, Jesse Stewart, Trent Lougheed, Anthony County, Dwayne Nicome and Isiah Smith are the players Thomas noted that he will be banking on.
Today's game will get underway at 3 p.m., while the official opening ceremony will take place at 12.30 p.m. with a wave-past parade of teams. Preceding the Pres v Carps match, Marabella Junior Secondary will take on Chaguanas Junior Secondary in an under-14 fixture.
