MARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill’s Rondon Baccus (Point Fortin, Trinidad ) made the 2008 Daktronics Southeast Region First Team Defense. The team boasts some of the top defenders in the country.

Bacchus started 17 games for the Lions this past season and was the centerpiece of a defense that allowed only 1.56 goals per game.

Other conference players also made the Daktronics Southeast Region First Team Defense. Bacchus, two-time first team member Felipe Nogueira of Lincoln Memorial University, Tusculum College’s Sven Meyer and Carson-Newman’s Thomas Ostvold complete the category.  Nogueira scored four goals from his defensive position this season in helping the defending national runner-up complete the year with an 11-7-2 overall record.  The Pioneer’s Sven Meyer wasn’t a scoring factor this season but handed out one assist and played the unsung hero role in the Pioneer’s run at the 2008 Southeast Region title and an 18-2-1 record. Carson-Newman midfielder Thomas Ostvold helped the Eagles finish the year with an 11-4-2 record and was a vital part of the Eagle infield.

Tusculum College men’s soccer senior Bruno Conceicao has been named 2008 Daktronics Men’s Soccer Southeast Region Player of the Year.  The Pioneer forward not only led his squad in scoring this year with 22 goals and 10 assists, he also led the entire South Atlantic Conference in goals scored, total points (54), points per game (2.84), goals per game (1.16) and tied for first in assists with 10 on the year.  Conceicao helped Tusculum College win the SAC regular season and conference tournament championship titles.  Conceicao ranks second in the nation in total points and fifth in goals scored.

Also named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team in the forward category were Lees-McRae’s Lee Squires and Newberry College’s Debola Ogunseye.  Squires, a sophomore for the Bobcats of Lees-McRae, scored 23 goal this year while handing out two assists.  With Squires help, the Bobcats tallied a 16-2-3 record and won the CCAC regular season crown.  He currently ranks fourth in goals and fifth in total points nationally.  Rounding out the forwards was Newberry College’s Debola Ogunseye.  Ogunseye scored 15 goals and distributed 10 assists this year for NC and places him third in the conference in goals scored (15), second in points (40) and first in assists with 10.

Making 2008 Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team in the midfielders category was Tusculum College team members Anteneh Lema, Scott Lucky and Wingate University’s Luke Mulholland.  Lema a sophomore and Lucky a junior were both instrumental in the Pioneers regular season and conference tournament title success.  Lema scored 13 goals and handed out nine assists this season while Lucky hit the net four time this year and distributed a team-best 11 assists.  Wingate’s Luke Mullholland rounds out the first team midfielders.  The 5’7” sophomore scored eight goals this year for the Bulldogs while recording seven assists.

When the 2008 Daktronics All-Southeast Region goalkeeper was selected, Tusculum’s Lance Moore was an overwhelming top choice.  In 1910:00 minutes in net this season, Moore helped the Pioneers record 11 shutouts in 21 matches while logging 73 saves and holding a 0.99 goals-against-average.

Villafana named First Team All-TSAC

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland defender Yue Wang and midfielder Kempess Villafana were both named First Team All-TranSouth Conference for men’s soccer, as announced by the conference office as the TSAC Championships begin Tuesday at campus sites.

Villafana scored a team-best eight goals and added three assists for the Bulldogs, who finished the season 6-7-1 overall as a team. The Arema, Trinidad, sophomore netted two goals against St. Catharine College in the season opener and had the game-winning goals against both Freed-Hardeman and Union University, both 1-0 CU victories.

Wang, a junior from Tianjin, China, scored one goal for the season, versus Union College. He was a key part of a defense that allowed just 19 goals all season, a 1.36 goals-against-average. The Bulldogs allowed just seven goals over the final seven matches of the year, but lost five of the seven tilts and a chance at making the TSAC Championships.

Congrats to all these guys. I never heard of Rondon Baccus before. guess he is named after Lawrence Rondon. I have heard of Kempess before. Thought he would have made it the the senior team. But he in college. That is all that matters. He has a real football name, if ever there was one. Good luck in future guys.

Rondon Baccus is an animal as well he's very quick and he is also very left footed ...he deserves a look in as well but TTFA doesnt give "no name players a chance as is the norm"

Gozzi, me eh trying to disrespect no man and thing but Third team all region eh really no big award considering the competition.  The level of ball is probably below avg at best so I eh really counting that as much.

Just now is everybody getting a bligh....

Nonethless, big up to the youth man.
