Referees Attitude
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:50:03 AM »
Imagine this is an official responsible for training officials around the world. What a idotic statement to make.

And then people argue that certain players and teams don't get special treatment. This thought process is a testament to that.

Apology

Former high-profile referee and current pundit Graham Poll made some interesting remarks regarding John Terry's sending-off against Everton.

He seemed to hint that referees' decisions can be altered depending on the status of the offending player.

As far as the Premier League is concerned, they don't come much more heavyweight than Chelsea and England skipper Terry.

Reflecting on the straight red, dished out for a rash, high tackle on Toffees star Leon Osman by Phil Dowd after he consulted his assistants, Poll said: "You have to remember you are sending off the England captain."

He continued in his Daily Mail newspaper column: "I know very well that, although all players should be treated equally, there is great pressure on an official when dealing with the England captain."

Didn't JT get a red card already this season and the FA overturned it. I wont be surprise if they do it again.

He also neglected to mention England "darlings" like Shearer & Rooney who are just as, if not more "untouchable" than the England captain.

Rooney would get a red card every other game he played if he didn't have "protection".

That foul that got Terry sent off against Everton yesterday is NOT going to get overturned, nor should Chelsea even appeal the damned thing.  The card was warranted.  One could have easily argued that the one against Man. City be overturned because the foul wasn't as bad as Jo dramatized it to be.  John Terry IMPEDED the man's progress at the half line or whereabouts and he wasn't the last defender.  Chelsea had every right to appeal that sending off but not this one.  But since we mentioning "cards" and manUre players, let's be real.  While I give Rooney MUCH credit for showing some mental development and maturity over the last couple seasons, he has escaped many a red/second yellow for his behaviour over the years.  Not to mention that referees REFUSE put the rule of "simulation" into play when it comes to discipling golden girl cronaldo.  Chelsea players and fans alike only want the officials to be consistent......manUre and their fans want preferential treatment...................to continue.

It has always been suspected and the case that the big teams and players get away with much more than they should, all this has done is confirmed what supporters of the other teams in the league always thought.

It happens week in week out where lesser players are book for challenges that the bigger players aren't booked for.

Terry's red card cannot be rescinded he went in with both feet off the ground and was above the ball, if the FA rescind that then they will be asking for trouble.  Personally I thought he went for the ball and in earlier times a booking would of been enough or even nothing at all, but as the rule stands now it has to be a red card.

He has certainly opened a can of worms with his comments and I am fairly sure the FA would of been on the phone to him.  They have always insisted that the refs don't go into games with preconcieved views this proves it's blatantly untrue.
