Allyuh on kicks. My comment has nothing to do with the system of play, but with the irrefutable deference applied by Liverpool to Swansea. Swansea didn't "seize" anything that wasn't ceded to them. View the first half again.

Secondarily, it was obvious what needed to be accomplished by Liverpool in the second half. Hence, in my book, Rodgers receives no particular credit for doing what was eminently needed after having adopted a tactical posture that he need not have employed versus Swansea. It's not the first time that Rodgers has lacked the balls to take the fight to the opponent. He accorded this opponent way more respect than was necessary to achieve the result, and, in the view of some, he did so respectful of his legacy at Swansea.

Think of the 2022 conversation regarding reparations as the item tabled for future discussion when initially raised for negotiation during talks in 1834. A lot of intere$t has accrued.

I guess Van Gaal watched the Swansea game and sorted out Liverpool (pass it to Sterling and hope for the best). First half for Liverpool was one of  :banginghead:

As I type Sterling had his 1st cross in the 53' of the game.

So much excuses for Gerard's action. Absolutely amazing you would swear he is 20, just in the league and not a supposedly experienced captain of a supposedly big club playing his farewell game vs Manchester United.

Just watched the game on DVR... ugly, UGLY performance.  Thoroughly outplayed, for the second game running we showed nothing in the first half.  No excuses whatsoever for Gerrard's stamp, none.  Disgraceful.  Too much pent up frustration and energy, not enough composure.  No excuses either for Gerrard or for the team.  Martin Atkinson was infuriating, but I thought this was one of his better games.  I would say that I thought Phil Jones should have been sent off.  I thought that challenge on Lallana in the first half was reckless, certainly enough to merit a yellow card.  Factor in the kick on Henderson on the sideline, which itself could have been a straight red, certainly should have been the second yellow.  Credit to United for being the better team on the day.

Stupid tackle by Can. Ok, you might have lost this game, but now that's a 3rd red card in 2 games.
Who is Liverpool going to play in defense in the next match?

It seems his left (plant leg) slipped from under him... at least that is what he and Henderson were arguing.  We suffered in defense today, Moreno, yet again, proved to be a liability.  His mistakes against City (first game), United, and now this game, really galling.  Forget top 4, Liverpool will be lucky to finish 6th at this pace.

It was interesting that Rogers brought on Sturridge instead of Balo. You could see that Sturridge was off the pace. Arsenal is the type of squad that lets a Balo type bully them into giving up a goal.

Not surprising to me, Balotelli doesn't offer the same type of passing and movement that Sturridge does.  Even an unfit Sturridge, who might not be 100% in sync with the rest of the attacking players, is a better option than Balotelli, because he instinctively knows what runs to make and his movement creates opportunities for others.  Balo is a little too static and frequently shoots when a pass is on.  He's gotten better, but not yet to the point that he'll come on ahead of Sturridge, who it should be remembered, scored in his last game (Liverpool's only tally against Man U.)

Now realize that Balotelli didn't make the trip to London due to injury.

Better work hard to win the league this season as next year will present Liverpool with the added challenge of playing both domestic and European football, something they did not have to contend with this season.

The European competitions had a neglible impact on Liverpool's performances this season.  Liverpool's performances had a negligible impact on the European competitions this season.

A lot of other factors, not the least of which being injuries and a failure to make up for the loss of Suarez, were more of an issue, but all in all this is where we realistically should be.  Hopefully we can catch City for fourth.

For the Liverpool fans, what are your thoughts on Balotelli's underwhelming season? Is it his bad attitude, the outcome of bad man management or him being a bad fit for BR's system(s)? All of the above or something else?

I honestly don't think his attitude has been an issue... he ruled himself out of the Arsenal match last weekend and the British press tried to make a meal of that.  Later he posted a picture of himself with a thermometer showing a high reading, indicating that he was legitimately sick.  Other than that, from all accounts he's been a model team player.  I think it's a matter of 'fit' more than anything. He hasn't played enough to get in sync with his team mates, either that or he's struggled to grasp the nuances of the attack.  Arguably Rodgers could have used him more to better acclimatize him... but at the expense of which attacking player?

Rodgers need to go. He is the biggest handicap at Liverpool. You cannot play each game every game the same way. That is at best naive and at worst lazy.

You have a player in Balotelli at our disposal and cannot find a way to make him successful? Look at how Puncheon was used against Liverpool today. That is something that Balotelli could have given to Liverpool. You must have a different way to play when other teams have figured out what you are doing day in day out.

Liverpool needed a target player to play off and to cause the defense to have some work to do. For to ong the opponent defense had to much time to decide who to pick up because they had "no one" t o mark or worry about centrally. This allowed them to shift side to side easily, picking up Sterling and neutralizing him.

Rodgers need a Championship team to re/evaluate hit methods and approach.

Liverpool barely showed up... but Jon Moss and crew had a laugher.  Two players, including the goal-scorer Zaha, were offside on the second goal.  Then Lucas fouled Zaha outside the box and Moss awards a penalty.  Absolute farce.  Not that Liverpool did themselves any favors, save for Skrtel, the backline was at sixes and sevens against Bolassie.
