What a performance today, a fitting end to a season that seemed to completely implode towards the end. Has Brendan lost the dressing room? The players didn't look like they could be bothered.

If FSG have big reservations about Rodgers, they should go ahead and cut him now. It doesn't make sense to have him involved in transfers and prep for next season if they plan to axe him at the first signs of a run of bad form.

Some are speculating that he has in fact lost the locker room, but I'm not sure... the players certainly seem to be standing behind him.  The loss of form also coincided with the distraction from Sterling's contract negotiations.  Who knows how much that had a role as well.  Agreed that if they're going to terminate him then they need to do that asap.

Real Madrid Legends 4-2 Liverpool Legends: Tale of two halves at the Bernabeu as Madrid roar back from two goals down
Ben Grounds (Daily Mail).

Real Madrid Legends came from 2-0 down to beat Liverpool Legends 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday evening.

Headers from former Reds Harry Kewell and Michael Owen had given the Merseysiders a commanding lead midway through the first-half.

Roberto Carlos' penalty halved the arrears before half-time, and after the Brazilian had repeated the feat, Jose Amavisca completed Madrid's comeback with 22 minutes remaining, before Ivan Perez capped the turnaround with a late fourth for the Spanish giants.

With the proceeds of the charity match going towards Spanish Red Cross, 60,000 supporters were in attendance at the Santiago Bernabeu to watch the cream of Liverpool and Real Madrid's past clash in the Spanish capital.

The match itself, which was branded in the Spanish press as being a 'game of 15 European Cups', did not disappoint, with the guile and flair of Zinedine Zidane at the heart of the home side's best attacking combinations from the off.

Madrid had the game's first chance when they were rewarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal after Jamie Carragher cynically blocked Claude Makelele off the ball. Carlos stepped up but the iconic left back blazed his effort over the bar.

Kewell was looking the visitors' most dangerous outlet, and after nearly setting up Luis Garcia for the game's opening goal, the Australian duly took the honours himself, as he met Jason McAteer's cross with a firm header at the far post after 18 minutes.

Within three minutes, the Reds had doubled their advantage as former Liverpool and Madrid striker Owen nodded home another McAteer centre from eight yards out.

Robbie Fowler really ought to have added a third for Ian Rush's side moments later, but the 40-year-old's 25-yard free-kick cannoned back off the post with Madrid's legendary goalkeeper Francisco Buyo stranded.

Liverpool were carving up Real at will at that stage, with a neat interchange enabling Owen through on goal but the 57-year-old Buyo produced a double save, denying Garcia at the second attempt.

Real then came close to reducing the scoreline with a sumptuous goal.

Salgado, Zidane and Clarence Seedorf all combined brilliantly to find the galloping Carlos down the left-hand side of the box, but after the Brazilian managed to clip the ball into the far post, Salgado's thunderous volley crashed against the post with Jerzy Dudek beaten.

But Madrid were finally on the score sheet with three minutes of the first-half remaining as they were awarded a penalty after Sportsmail's Carragher, who had been enjoying a few drinks at the pre-match meal the night before, was adjudged to have blocked Zidane's header with his hands.

The impressive Carlos thumped in the spot-kick to halve Liverpool's lead heading into the break.

A number of changes at the interval saw Abel Xavier, Stephane Henchoz, Rob Jones and Vladimir Smicer emerge from the bench with Fernando Morientes swapping shirts with Owen, having also played for both clubs during his illustrious career.

Five minutes into the re-start, Madrid were level when Carlos dispatched his second penalty of the evening, after Carragher was harshly adjudged to handled in the area for a second time.

Indeed, the pattern in the early stages of the second 45 minutes was in stark contrast to the dominance Liverpool had enjoyed at the beginning, as a re-energised Madrid launched attack after attack on the Liverpool goal.

Salgado again came close to nudging Madrid in front when he met the cross of Steve McManaman - who turned out for the home side in the second-half - but his driving effort fizzed just wide of the post.

As the pace of the game gradually decelerated, Madrid substitute Amavisca provided the home side with the lead for the first time, as the 43-year-old left-winger turned inside Xavier before firing a reverse shot into Sander Westerveld's near post.

Liverpool had the chance to level with 14 minutes remaining, but Garcia's blazed his effort over from close range after being put through.

It would prove a costly miss, as in the 83rd minute, Perez bundled home from close range to kill off the visitors, despite replays showing the 39-year-old forward was clearly offside.

Real Madrid Legends XI: Buyo, Salgado, Carlos, Sanchis, Zidane, Morientes, Seedorf, Karembeu, Sanz, Solari, Makelele.

Good signing... £12.5m spent on Clyne.  No word yet on how much the hairdresser cost.

With two key unconverted chances on goal, looks like Sterling is still a Red at heart.

Coronavirus: Premier League should be cancelled, no Liverpool title - Ferdinand
ESPN

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said the Premier League season should be voided, which would mean Liverpool's 30-year wait for the trophy would continue.

Professional football in England is on hold, while sports across the world have been suspended following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

No Premier League football will take place before April 30 at the earliest, while Euro 2020 has been postponed for a year. The Champions League and Europa League finals have been suspended indefinitely.

Liverpool are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League but Ferdinand, who won six league titles during 12 years at United, said: "I just think the Premier League should be void. Void it.

"I know there's going to be a lot of Liverpool fans going: 'oh, Rio, just because you used to play for Man United.'

"I just don't see a way that can be done where health isn't compromised. Simple as that. All this behind closed doors business -- you're still going to have players there, are the players not part of society?

"There are players who are going to go down with the illness who might not have recovered, or catch it from someone then it spreads to other players. It won't be fair, it's not a level playing field. I just don't feel it's right."

The Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal was the first Premier League game to be postponed. After Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi confirmed they tested positive for the coronavirus, the Premier League called an emergency meeting where it was decided that play should be suspended.

Arteta is recovering well, while all Premier League clubs are not training at present. England's football authorities will delay the start of the 2020-21 season until the last ball has been kicked in the 2019-20 campaign, with sources telling ESPN that this year's Premier League and EFL seasons will "absolutely finish before the next one begins."

Ferdinand, speaking on Instagram, added: "There are going to be people in the stadium, security, it puts everyone at risk.

"All this, 'oh we're going to win this' or 'so-and-so might go down,' you've got to put those type of things to one side.

"This is about life and death situations, about society in the wider grand scheme of things. Football it ain't that serious in that sense.

"Listen, we all love it but it ain't life or death, when it comes to matters like this, you've got to put people's heath before anything."

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Liverpool become Premier League champions after 30-year wait
By Tom Hamilton
Senior Writer

Liverpool have ended their 30-year wait for a topflight title after being crowned Premier League champions following Manchester City's 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp's side defeated Crystal Palace 4-0 on Wednesday evening to leave them needing just two points from their remaining seven games to win the title. But with second-placed Manchester City now 23 points behind with seven matches remaining after Thursday's result at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool have an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

The triumph brings to an end a 30-year drought as Klopp's class of 2020 ended their wait for a topflight title that stretched back to 1990, when Kenny Dalglish's side won the old Football League championship. This season's feat means Liverpool now have 19 titles to their name, one behind Manchester United, who sit on 20.

"I have no words. It's unbelievable," Klopp told Sky Sports in an interview after the Chelsea win. "It's much more than I ever thought, to become champions with this outstanding club is unbelievable."

Liverpool broke all sorts of records during a memorable campaign. They put together a record-equaling run of 18 consecutive wins from October through to Feb. 29 and have won every league match at home this season, making it a record 23 on the bounce. They also set a club record of 44 matches without defeat, stretching back to last season.

"It's an incredible achievement for my players," Klopp said.

The long wait has set off celebrations all throughout the football-mad city. And Klopp said the feeling of being a champion with the Reds was indescribable.

"It's the best thing I could ever imagine and it's more than I ever dreamed of," he said.

Liverpool's principal owner, John W Henry, paid tribute to the team's "magnificent achievement" on social media.

"'This was a season for the ages and for the faithful of Liverpool Football Club," Henry, who is head of Fenway Sports Group, tweeted.

"'It has been an incredible year of magnificent achievement culminating tonight in capturing the Premier League title.

"'This in addition to winning a European championship, a Super Cup and a world championship -- the totality of this accomplishment has brought respite and joy to so many in a year filled with so much tragedy.

"'LFC has made the beautiful game more beautiful than ever.

"It is said, 'We are Liverpool'. You, the supporters are Liverpool in every sense and you continue to drive the club forward -- a historic club making history once again."

When football was postponed due to the coronavirus, there were times Klopp feared his Liverpool side would be denied the chance to win the title on the pitch. When the league was suspended in March, Liverpool were 25 points clear at the top.

Discussions followed on how best to restart the league. Klopp admitted before their match against Everton last Sunday that he was worried the league would be decided by points per game or even voided. But to Klopp's relief, the league restarted on June 17 and since then Liverpool have drawn with Merseyside rivals Everton 0-0 and swiped aside Palace to get over the finishing line.

Klopp joins Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish and Bill Shankly in Liverpool's pantheon of managerial greats in winning a league title, with Jordan Henderson, who spearheaded the Players Together Initiative during lockdown to raise essential funds for the National Health Service (NHS), now a Premier League-winning captain.

Manchester City did their best to pin back Liverpool's lead throughout the season, but there was no stopping Klopp's runaway side. They have led the standings since the second week of the season, and suffered their first Premier League defeat only in February, with a surprise 3-0 loss against Watford.

Guardiola paid tribute to Liverpool after his side's loss.

"Big congratulations for Liverpool," said the Spaniard, whose title-winning side finished 25 points ahead of Klopp's team two seasons ago and pipped them by a point last term.

"After 30 years without the title they played every game this season like it was their last with incredible focus. We were not consistent enough," he added.

A slightly dodgy spell of form followed as Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League, but the season hiatus allowed star goalkeeper Alisson to return to full fitness and prompted Liverpool to shift back into familiar winning ways.

Klopp said midweek that it was "unthinkable" that any team would be 20 points ahead of Manchester City -- meaning his team "must've done a couple of things really well and right" -- but the result at Stamford Bridge on Thursday will spark joy throughout Liverpool. In the 30-year drought Liverpool won the 2005 and 2019 Champions Leagues and three FA Cups, but the league triumph sees them return to the summit of English football.

It has been a fantastic campaign, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane chipping in with 17 and 15 league goals, respectively. The full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have 20 assists between them, while that lethal front three of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino chipped in with a further 21 assists. Alisson has the most clean sheets in the Premier League this term with 12, while Klopp has won five of the seven Manager of the Month awards.

It has been a tale of domination, but they will have to wait to celebrate it with their fans with the Premier League season being played out behind closed doors.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Klopp planning to take a year off coaching after honouring Liverpool contract
(YahooNews).

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will take a year off from coaching once his contract at Liverpool expires in the summer of 2024.

The German tactician has committed his immediate future to the reigning Premier League champions. By the time his current terms come to a close, he will have spent almost a decade in the Anfield dugout.

Klopp has already stated on a regular basis that he will sever ties with the Reds at that point, with his plan being to deliver more major silverware before eventually walking away.

It could be that the Liverpool job is his last, with his options set to be carefully weighed up when taking a sabbatical.

Quizzed on his future plans by Sport Buzzer, Klopp said: “I'll take a year off and ask myself if I miss football. If I say no, then that will be the end of coach Jurgen Klopp.

“If one day I am no longer a coach, there is one thing I will not miss: the brutal tension immediately before the game.”

Klopp has embraced that passion and expectation throughout his distinguished career to date.

His commitment to any given cause has allowed him to oversee numerous notable successes, including Champions League and Premier League triumphs with Liverpool.

The 53-year-old insists he is not done yet, with there a desire on his part to keep looking forward and avoid reflecting on the past.

He said of his ambition at Liverpool for 2020-21: “The whole club is hot for the new season, we wants to be even better.

“We want to chase the opponents and the ball over the entire field, continue to be a super unpleasant team that is not fun to play. We're not defending any titles, we want to get new ones, we've only just started winning.”

Liverpool did surrender their grip on the Champions League crown in 2019-20, with Atletico Madrid dumping them out in the last 16.

The Spanish giants have since been humbled by RB Leipzig, with no Premier League sides making the semi-finals.

Klopp believes an all-German final could be on the cards, with Leipzig set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the last four while tournament favourites Bayern Munich are preparing to follow up their 8-2 mauling of Barcelona with a clash against Lyon.

“A German final - why not?” said Klopp. “Everyone can see that Bayern are in unbelievably good shape, and RB also did exceptionally well against Atletico.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

NBA superstar James joins Liverpool ownership group
AFP

NBA superstar LeBron James has increased his ownership stake in English Premiership club Liverpool via a deal confirmed on Wednesday that makes him a partner in Fenway Sports Group.

FSG announced that James and longtime business associates Maverick Carter and Paul Wachter had become partners in the Boston-based global sports, entertainment and real estate platform, along with RedBird Capital.

James, 36, previously held a 2% stake in Liverpool, but now will have a bigger share in the Premier League team as well as a stake in Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, a sports management firm, a regional sports cable network and Roush Fenway Racing of the popular NASCAR stock car racing series.

FSG took control of Liverpool in 2010.

The investment and accompanying transactions value the group at $7.35 billion (6.26 billion euros), and the Boston Globe reported that it is a $750 million (639 million euros)investment.

The new investment is expected to allow Liverpool to recover from the financial pressures of the coronavirus pandemic and help Anfield expansion plans go ahead.

The club has proposed a new Anfield Road stand that would increase the ground's capacity to about 61,000.

In a joint statement, FSG principal owner John W. Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Mike Gordon said they were "pleased to welcome to our ownership group LeBron, Maverick and Paul, with whom we have enjoyed a successful collaboration for well over a decade.

"Their addition is an important milestone for FSG and expands and deepens a long-time friendship and relationship that began in 2010.

"To our fans and supporters: Winning continues to be the driving force for all of us," Henry and his colleagues said.

"The growth of FSG as an organisation allows us to further strengthen our resources and commitment to the communities we serve, and we look forward to having these talented new partners join us in the next chapter of FSG's evolution."

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
