Interesting. Just had to confirm it for myself as well, with the similar news from Portsmouth.

For Chelsea, it could be the right move - but I think it's at the wrong time.
They've had a lean spell, but they're also combatting big injuries to key players in the squad.

Unless they're bringing in Rijkaard, I don't see Ray Wilkins becoming the fulltime manager.

I am not surprised at all!!! Although Scolari is a good coach, he was not getting the results in the last 7-8 games.  Ambramovich invest nuff money this season and Chelsea looking like ah average team of late.  The question now is who in they right mind want to go into that hot seat as Head Coach of Chelsea FC.
If your heart is not in the game then your not a true footballer!!!

Not suprised that it has happened. With Champions League coming up the owner would have wanted to shake things up before they get knocked out early.

Now Gene can go back to doing what he does best- acting. Tough situation, especially when his owner wanted him to play nice football with a bunch of plodders/unskilled labourers!

I can't agree with you more, fordy......it seems though, that the players were just not responding to Big Phil.  Maybe it was......something!  I cyah figure it out.  From what I am seeing of this club, I really get the impression that maybe the owner, the board or somebody up top is setting certain mandates that is not working and the coach(es) is(are) being made into the scape goat(s).  They shoulda never let Jose go......unless, of course, he wanted to go anyway.

I think Rijkaard and Gullit have a better chance than those.
Rijkaard because of his run with Barca.
Gullit because of his Chelsea ties.

Zola claims he's not leaving West Ham.
Guus Hiddink ... I don't know if Roman will hijack Russia for Chelsea. The last thing he need is more enemies right now.
Mancini would be ironic, given that he and Jose would have swapped places. I don't know if Mancini has a good enough grasp of English to make it work on short notice.

Scolari appeared reasonably functional in English, but based on his interviews it was clear that he was not very comfortable with the language, and I could see it being difficult to express himself.

Despite having a strong int'l presence in the squad my guess is that the common language in the Chelsea dressing room is English- After seeing what happened to Juande Ramos I can't help but think that that might be a factor- really difficult to imagine a head coach/manager being able to play the role of motivator when he can't fully express himself.....

Never like to see someone lose their job, but it like he go be on the street. Abramovic is the next one to jump ship, if he don't win CL he will put Chelsea up for sale. Coaching is not an exact science, so even a World Cup winner can get it wrong. Carlos Perriera learn that a long time ago, since 1994.

I agree, Rjkaard is the most likely candidate. I can't see Gullit getting that post. Hiddink is a good shout but he comfortable in Russia where he is the new Czar.

That bad.  Abramovich better off selling that club; he killing dem.  Leave Mourinho; he coming 'Pool next. :) I would say Zola would be a good fit, but will he leave firm grounds for uncertain waters?

My outlook on this is obviously biased, but I don't see where Ambramovich is killing the club.
Now, he obviously sits at the head of the table and will be opinionated when it comes to certain players/ coaches/ managers/ administrators at the club.

However, he has always put his money where his mouth is. He has spent liberally when it comes to making sure that Chelsea has the best of the best and are equipped with all the resources they need at their luxury.

So somewhere or the other, it is not Roman's money that is failing, but the way how the coaches and players perform. Can you ever possibly blame Roman for JTs penalty miss in the CL Final? How about Saturday's draw at Hull? Even the loss to Liverpool?

The players need to go out and perform, and the coaches need to put the players in the position to do so. JT came out and apologised for the team's form - and many players have been lamenting the lean period the squad has been going through - but it is time for the players and the coaches to step up.
