Roberts, Sealy on target.
By: Ian Prescott (Express).

Discarded Trinidad and Tobago striker Darryl Roberts scored his eighth goal of the season in Turkey yesterday, compatriot Scott Sealy netted his first for new club Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, and midfielder Khaleem Hyland played a second straight match as Zulte Waregem moved up to sixth in Belgium.

All three players have had stints with the national team, but have not held down permanent positions.

Roberts, 25, moved to Turkey on a three-year contract after a season with Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he scored spectacular goals against top clubs Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

Probably the most mobile of all T&T's current strikers, the former USA-based college student notched his goal in the sixth minute to lead Denizlispor to a 2-1 victory over Konyaspor in the Super Liga in Turkey.

Roberts is now tied with several players on eight goals, but adrift of former Liverpool and Czech Republic striker Milan Baros, who has scored 15 this season for third-placed Galatasaray.

Roberts is three adrift of Turkish striker Mehnet Yoldiz, who is second highest scorer with 11 goals for league leaders Silvaspour, and one behind 31-year-old Fenebache attacking midfielder Alex de Santos, who once captained Brazil and had 68 caps for the Samba Boys from 1999-2005.

But while all the other top-scorers are from leading teams, Roberts' club is in the relegation zone, currently third from bottom.

Sealy netted his debut goal after recently signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel's oldest and most decorated club, having won 19 league titles.

The former MLS San Jose Earthquakes striker got the winner in the 46th minute as his team came from a goal down to beat Hapoel Kiryat Shmona 2-1 in the Israel Premier League.

And after just two weeks with Belgian club SV Zulte Waregem, T&T's Hyland has already secured a starting position.

The 19-year-old former CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh midfielder played a full game for the second straight weekend after signing a six-month contract with Waregem, who won 1-0 at Dender in the Pro Jupiter League.

Hyland's team is on a run and up to sixth after being near the bottom of the 18-team league earlier this season. During that time they have beaten all the top-four clubs-Standard Liege (1st), Anderlect (2nd), Club Brugge (3rd) and Club Genk (4th).

Waregem were responsible for knocking Anderlect off the top of the table with a shock 4-0 victory.

And 20-year-old Trinidad and Tobago under-20 striker Jamaal Gay has played once for his new club Rot-Weiss Oberhausen in the German Second Division, but was not included when they won 1-0 at former Bundesliga club St Pauli on the weekend.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

If only Roberts can play midfield.   We have way too much strikers.

As opposed to midfielders who are neither offensive nor defensive...?
