Woman, 81, raped; cops hunt suspect
A manhunt has been launched for a 25-year-old Laventille man wanted in connection with the rape of an 81-year-old woman of the district.
Police say around 8 a.m. on Monday, the woman was at her Laventille home, when she saw a man ransacking her home. The woman confronted the man and he told her he was looking for money.
Told that there was none, the man proceeded to rape the woman and fled the house.
The woman was able to call the police and officers of the Besson Street Station arrived and rushed the woman to hospital, where she remains warded.
A detailed description of the suspect has been given to police and investigators say the suspect is affiliated with a criminal gang in the area and has a series of gun-related charges pending at various magistrates' courts.
