Two police officers allegedly used the station's only patrol vehicle to travel to a location to collect a $2,000 bribe at midnight yesterday.
On their way back, they were stopped by the Central Division's most senior officers.
Some $1,500 was allegedly found in the pocket of a police corporal. The rest of the cash was found in the door pocket next to the driver, a constable, investigators claimed.
Both men spent the day at the Chaguanas Police Station. The Director of Public Prosecutions' office will be asked for help in the case, the Express was told.
The suspect officers work in the Central Division and were on duty Tuesday night when a woman came to ask about a warrant out for the arrest of her husband, police said.
It is alleged that the officers asked the woman for money to make the warrant "disappear". She contacted a senior officer who is related to her.
The serial numbers of the money were noted before it was used in the sting operation.
Senior Superintendent Joseph Edwards spearheaded the sting.
