Shearer takes boss reins for Toon

Premier League strugglers Newcastle United haved appointed Alan Shearer in a managerial capacity for the remainder of the season.

Current Magpies boss Joe Kinnear is currently recovering from heart surgery and he was due to meet cardiologists next Monday to determine if he is fit to return to the touchline.

However, it has been suggested that he could move to a role upstairs, possibly as director of football, and St James' Park legend Shearer has taken over the managerial reins from caretaker boss Chris Hughton.

The 18th-placed Magpies face Chelsea at St James' Park on Saturday, and have a tough run-in which features games against Stoke, Spurs, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Fulham and Aston Villa.

Shearer will be presented as the new manager on Wednesday morning

This could really backfire big time.
Shearer shoulda waited till next season at least.
If its true that is

Nah...he probably take it on a temporary basis so that if the team survive, he remains a legend and if they get relegated he could blame the previous regime. Is a win-win.

The trouble only starts if he decide he want to stay on next year...

Shearer coach as coach is such a joke, you tryin to tell me there is nobody MORE QUALIFIED than Shearer to coach this side? Chris Hutton who was managing the side has been 'paying his dues' for many years by being an understudy/assistant to many managers is more qualified by miles than Shearer and he couldn't keep the job? If they get relegated dey look for dat! Ah watching the game against Chelski and everytime they show Shearer, Ian Dowie in his ear giving him instructions and then Shearer shouting it to the players on the pitch. It look like he interning as a coach and he was getting directions from his supervisor! He is just a damn figure head and a glorified cheerleader hired to pump the side up! Mickey Mouse club!
