Middlesbrough lining up move for Jason Scotland

Middlesbrough lining up move for Jason Scotland
By Alan Nixon (Daily Mirror)

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is ready to bid for Swansea's goal machine Jason Scotland - whether his club beats the drop or not.

Southgate has lined up a surprise end-of season move for the Trinidad and Tobago international, who has been a major scoring success since he joined the Welsh outfit.

The Boro chief sent top spy Gordon McQueen to watch Scotland notch his 24th goal of a remarkable Championship campaign at Barnsley on Easter Monday.

And as Southgate has had problems finding a natural finisher, with Brazilian Afonso Alves an expensive flop, he plans to bring in the attacker whether Boro are in the Premier League or have been relegated.

Scotland, 30, has proved his worth after a meandering route to the Football League and his scoring powers have peaked since joining the Swans in May 2007.

Swansea hope to keep him by sneaking into the play-offs and going up, but if they fail they may lose the player.

true. Middlesborough is a blight side and Gareth Southgate does look like the most clueless manager in the EPL.

The money will definitely be better at Boro. But the football will be worse. And just watch the TT team to see how well he does with shit football.

I think he should stick with Roberto Martinez, who's bound to move on to bigger scenes soon.

Scottwill only perform well when we resolve our mid-field issues. Other than that we will be admiring his scoring prowess in the EPL.

He could score 20 goals or more in Championship or EPL... it doh matter he still will be playing second fiddle to "the legend"

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has dismissed recent speculation linking several players with a move away from South Wales. Both Newcastle and Middlesbrough have watched recent Swansea games, with Jordi Gomez and Jason Scotland touted as the targets for the North East duo.

I find it hard to believe that Newcastle will take away the job from Alan Shearer and give it to Jordi Gomez. Gomez might do well in the EPL, but not at Newcastle with all that drama going on. If he replace Shearer and that side doh buy into his philosophy right away, then is serious tears.

For those chatting about money, then his best / last payday will be a transfer at a decent fee no doubt with a good pay rise, don't forget the players will get something like 10-15% of the transfer fee as a signing on fee, so at his age a decent price move might be very attractive despite the destination.
