Three newcomers in $.3m bmobile Super League.
By: Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

T&T Football Federation Champion of Champions winners, East/West Coaching School; runner-up T&TEC and Queen’s Park CC will all make their debut in the 2009 bmobile National Super League. The 13-team league will kick off on May 3 with matches at some new venues, aimed at making the league more community oriented. This was stated by Anthony Harford, tournament coordinator, during the launch of the 2009 season—the sixth year of the league and fourth sponsored by bmobile to the tune of $300,000—at the Queen’s Park Oval, Banquet Hall, Tragarete Road, yesterday.

Last year’s league and knockout winners, the T&T Under-20 will not compete as they are preparing for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup Finals in Egypt from September 24. Like previous years, the Super League clubs will also compete in the T&TFF FA Trophy and T&T Pro League Toyota Classic competitions, giving them a chance to walk away with trophies on four separate fronts. A new segment of the Super League will be the introduction of the Super League youth competitions to be contested in the Under-15 and Under-17 age-groups all sponsored by the Fifa under its “Win with Concacaf programme” which focuses mainly on youth development.

The programme is to be introduced in 22 Concacaf countries, including T&T, to the sum of $8 million with T&T expected to received close to $2 million. Harford warned that the 13 clubs in this edition of the Super League without youth clubs will be allowed to compete this year but will have to put in place youth teams and show proper youth set-ups or face being expelled from the competition altogether for the 2010 season.

Super League Teams

Coaching School, Parkites for bmobile Super league.
By: Walter Alibey (T&T Newsday).

THREE new clubs — East West Coaching School, TTEC Sports Club and Queen’s Park will make up 13 clubs to contest this year’s new-look bmobile-sponsored National Super league which kicks off May 3.

The tournament will get going with Eastern Football Association (EFA) winners East West Coaching School taking on Economy Strikers at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar; while the TTEC outfit will have a date with Alcoa Carenage United at the Carenage Recreation Ground.

The Parkites will square-off with local football powerhouse Defence Force at the Chaguaramas Youth Camp.

Defending champions, the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 team will be unavailable as they wing out for an four-national tour today in preparation for the FIFA Under-20 Youth World Cup to be held in Egypt in September.

At a press briefing at the Banquet Hall of the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday All Sport Promotion Managing-Director Anthony Harford announced that the league will take on a different complexion this season.

First he revealed that the league will be more community-based this year and already it has secured the use of five new recreation grounds which will be utilised for the first time in six years.

This decision is expected to make up for the unavailability of three of the five stadia used in the past.

The five community grounds to be used are the Mayaro Resource Centre, Kennedy Park Recreation Ground in Diamond Village, Moruga Recreation Ground, Biche Recreation Ground and the Anglais Road Recreation Ground.

Matches will also be played at the newly refurbished Queen’s Park Oval which worked in the Parkites’ favour when they applied to play in the Super league.

According to Harford, All Sport Promotions, who have the responsibility to run the league on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF), will also focus on education.

As such a series of programmes have been planned for coaches, commissioners and administrators. Harford said it will begin in a week’s time (April) starting with the commissioners.

Even though our U-17 team got knocked out of the U-17 Championships I feel they should play in the 2009 Super League. Might be to late now to enter any teams.

This league will do them some good so they can prepare for the next U-20 qualifiers way inadvance.

Double Cosign.

In fact they should play in the pro-league next season. They could beat Ma Pau. So they could definitely beat Tobago U.  8)
