Father Cutie Says No To Celibacy
Father Alberto Cutie is the priest that was photographed with a woman on a Florida beach. He has now left the Catholic Church to join the Episcopal Church and marry his fiancé.
The Miami Herald reports that Father Cutie was welcomed to the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral of Miami in a private ceremony on Thursday afternoon. Unlike the Catholic Church which requires priests to be celibate, the Episcopal Church does not require this rule.
According to CBS News Father Cutie will marry Ruhama Buni Canellis, a divorced mother living in Miami Beach. The photos of Father Cutie and Canellis almost put a match to the debate over celibacy in the Catholic Church. The New York Times reports that Father Cutie, a.k.a. Padre Oprah, known for his television, radio, and author celebrity, will not minister in the Episcopal Church until formal training in his new faith is complete.
Father Cutie was born in Puerto Rico, the son of Cuban parents. Through his television and radio programs he has offered relationship and religious counseling.
