Reuters says:

PORT of SPAIN, Nov. 20, (Reuter):

THE Trinidad Referees Association has begun an eight-day boycott here of matches in main competition—The Port Of Spain Football League.

As a result there were no major football matches yesterday for the first time in history of the game here.

The boycott is to press home the need for safety of its members.

Recently a linesman was kicked and a referee punched in the face by spectators. In addition there has been abuse and threats of violence.

Meanwhile, all is set here for the opening tomorrow of triangular football tournament among Trinidad, Brazil and Surinam.

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Nov. 22, (Reuter)

SIR FRANK WORRELL has called a referees boycott which stopped football here last week for the first time in history "an indictment of the standard of sportsmanship in Trinidad."

Sir Frank said yesterday in commenting on the boycott, which ended today "It points to a lack of discipline by players and spectators.

"If we can't lose gracefully, we may as well stop playing sport."

Reminding youth that the golden rule of sport should be that the umpire or referee is always right, Sir Frank said, "if we remember this the transition from youth to adulthood will be very smooth."
