Twelve teams are contesting Round 3 of North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying. The top two from each of the three groups will advance to the final hexagonal stage, from where three sides will qualify directly for South Africa 2010 and the fourth-placed team will take on the fifth-placed finisher in South American qualifying (see below for SA table, 6 games remaining) for a place at the world finals.

I like the predictions Sam, but I feel we could take all 3 points in Honduras....we did it back in 2001 when we had nothing to play for and Honduras just needed a point to qualify.
But if it plays out like you call it with 3 teams on 13 pts, what happens then??...does it come down to goal diff??..or head to heads??

Head to head first...goal difference after i think. Buh it doable...9 home......9 away to play for.....we should aim for at least 12...last time we qualified with 10...third had 13. It even more sickening to think that instead of 2 from 4 games..we shoulda have at least 7 from 4..or even 9 from 4...buh......de milk done throw away already.

If most of what Sam predicted comes to fruition...we have to hope for a win in either Honduras or Costa Rica. Costa Rica would have already qualified by September and may gift El Salvador a win like they did with Guatemala in 2005.

I already posted this in another thread, but it's worth looking at the results of past Hexagonals in order to have somewhat of an idea of how many points are needed to get that 4th (or even 3rd) place spot:


- In the 2006 Hexagonal T&T qualified for the 4th place playoff spot with 13 points. Guatemala finished in 5th place and they had 11 points.

- In the 2002 Hexagonal the 4th place finisher (before there was a playoff spot) was Honduras with 14 points. In 5th place was Jamaica with 8.

- In the 1998 Hexagonal the 4th place finisher (before there was a playoff spot) was Costa Rica with 12 points. In 5th place was El Salvador with 10.

Of course, all kinds of scenarios are possible and things have yet to be played out. But in order to be on the safe side you want to finish with at least 12 points to be looking at the 4th place playoff games.

I cannot see how we losing to Honduras but beating the USA. I think it will be the other way around as the USA not sending no back up team this time for us to beat up. They are in a position they believe they should not be in and will play hard to the end ogf the qualifiers to raise their stakes again after the CR lost and when Mexico do it to them in the Azteca.

there are 15 points remaining  for us to get..9 of them are home points..we win at home and we get to 11
sneaking a win against honduras has to be the main focus and getting a point in costa rica is possible as it is likely they'd already be qualified by the time we come to play them

the key for us is mexico's form -mexico has three games to play at home again - the us, el salvador and honduras..if mexico remain perfect at home it sets those 2 back..
el salvador has to travel to POS, the US and mexico...tha's 9 points that they SHOULD not be able to get while there fixture at home against honduras could work out in our favour
honduras is home to costa rica next game..costa rica CAN beat honduras in tegucigalpa  and would be eager too to seal qualification before playing the US or Mexico again..
honduras also have to play the US at home - again this game could go either way..and it might swing for us..

I think we can get 14 points

The link below is an excel file which calculates the points/standings etc of the Concacaf group.
All you have to do is put in what you think would be the scores of the games and it works out the rest.
All yuh go like allyuh self. 

Those of you who was around for the 2006 campaign might remember the file.
I did some ammendments etc, to update it to the present campaign. (Ah ketch meh nen nen and it take meh a long time, but it was worth it)

Any way this is a must for all forumites. Have fun.
