The suspect in the ATM Robberies is captured on camera robbing a female member of the public....
Officers of the Cunupia Police Station have set up a sting operation to nab a knife wielding bandit who has been robbing unsuspecting ATM customers at the Cunupia branch of Scotia Bank.
The man was captured on the bank’s surveillance camera during three recent robberies at the ATM machine. Reports reveal that the bandit operates during the early hours of the morning and sometimes between 9 to 10 am on weekends. Police investigators told Sunday Newsday yesterday that they will be closely monitoring activities at the bank with nabbing the bandit high on their agenda.
Yesterday, a party of officers led by Cpls Seecharan, James and detective Ramsubhag viewed the footage obtained by the bank and attempted to profile the suspect who was captured on the bank’s camera. Police are calling on members of the public who use the bank’s ATM machine to exercise the necessary precaution when obtaining cash from the ATM machine. They added that they should desist from withdrawing cash if they notice any suspicious looking person lurking in the vicinity of the ATM machine.
The ATM bandit was yesterday described as being of African descent, five feet eight inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, wearing a striped T-shirt and a hat. The three persons who were held up at the ATM machine also gave similar descriptions of the man captured on the bank’s camera. The ATM is located a stone’s throw away from the Cunupia Police Station and officers believe that the suspect is from the Cunupia area. No guards are present at the ATM machine or the bank during weekends and the area close to the bank is sometimes unlit. Police reiterated that it is the duty of members of the public to exercise the necessary caution when withdrawing cash at any ATM machine because of the risk involved in doing so.
When Sunday Newsday visited the bank yesterday scores of persons were seen using the ATM machine at the Cunupia branch of Scotiabank. When asked by Sunday Newsday if they were aware that a knife-wielding bandit had robbed three persons within recent times at the bank all the persons interviewed said no, but added that they will be taking the necessary steps to prevent themselves from being robbed the next time they use the ATM machine there.
Based on the photograph of the man police believe that an arrest is imminent. So the police setting up a sting to ketch the bandit and put it on the papers.
But they also say an arrest is imminent. So is this repoter just an ass.
